Her family originally comes from Belarus. Just as Hingis is Czech.

Maria was born in Nyagan after her parents moved there from Belarus a fair time before she was born....making her Russian

correct me if im wrong but until 1991 Belarus was part of the Soviet Union?

No big difference, most of Belarussians prefers Russian language, Russian culture and watches Russian TV. The only reason why they are not part of the Russia is that they dont want to become a province

Yeah, you're right. However, she's half Slovak, and half Moravian(indigenous Czech) in her actual ethnicity.
