just wondering how far everyone thinks masha will go in dubai, she faces dushivina in the 2nd round and probably martina in the quaters if not mirza. i think when maria played martina she did not play her best temmis at all, she might have underestimated hingis or was else nervous, whereas this time i think the match will be closer but maria winning in 3 tough sets, then comes lindsey who we all know maria can beat if in top form, this as always will be tough but if maria can make it this far should be a very thrilling encounter as always, but i also think masha can win, then final most likely mauresmo as justine is still getting back, i also think maria has a chance to beat mauresmo as they only played twice in the yec on in the rr and the other in the semis, i think maria was injured in that match cause she was totally dominating the first set and bang the injury flared up again, so overall i think maria could win this tournie but it will be very tough and a very good test.

She'll pass Duchevina easily. If she faces Martina again there may be trouble, but now that Maria knows more of her game, she should be able to put up a bigger fight.

Yikes! You will probably get it from some people here for saying Maria could win Dubai. You should have probably posted this in her forum. Anyway, after she lost to Martina in Tokyo, I have already prepared myself for Maria's possible early exit in this tournament (that's if she gets Martina). On the other hand, since she got that super hyped-up Martina match out of the way, I do think that if she faces Martina in the quarters, Maria will be less nervous, less concerned about the outcome of the match and the backlash she'll receive in the event of a loss, and will be more focused from point to point this time around. Maria's the revenge kinda girl so I do think she has a chance. At this point, I'm not even thinking about the semis. Maria's biggest hurdle in this tournament is Martina. ;)

The thread started should be aware that Myskina has a 3-1 record over Masha too, and she could meet Masha in QF if she beats either Hingis or Mirza in 2nd

Sorry - I also think she will fall to either Myskina or Hingis in QF too. These two have the kind of game that she has struggled with in the past.

Just my opinion! :)

 Nastya isn't forgotten. I am sure she'll give Maria problems as well but it's been a while since these two have played each other (last time was YEC 2004 which Maria won) and in all those matches, Nastya was always ranked and seeded higher. In other words, I don't think the H2H matters that much anymore. But I like Nastya, so I hope she takes care of Martina. I'll be much more excited for Sharapova-Myskina.

:D Of course Nastya/Masha matches are likely to be closer now than in the past. Nastya has had some tough times, and MAria has raised her game higher than any of the other Russians. I want Nastya to pass Hingis, then battle it out with Masha. :wavey:
