Jelena Dokic
Alexandra Stevenson
Clarisa Fernandez

Do you think the inevitable time has come and passed for them to retire in grace and be happy mums?

what? Dokic is 22, Alex is 25 and Clarisa is 24.
why should they retire? only because they don't play at that level they normally can?
No, I don't think they should retire!!

I think they can all come back.

The problem was that all of them had a great run at a slam, reaching the Semi-Final

Ferdandez = French Open 2002 (no WTA titles)
Dokic = Wimbledon 2000 (plus winner of Tier I events Moscow and Rome)
Stevenson = Wimbledon 1999 (no WTA titles).

The points from the semifinals of the slam they got to kept them high in the rankings for a year, and when they couldn't defend they slumped again.

Not in the case of Jelena. After her SF at Wimbledon she went on to win titles and ended up at #4. ;)

When Jelena played at aus open the commentators were saying she still hits the ball technically the same. So why should she if her game is still in tact from a technical perspective?

Sure, she needs to get fitter mentally and physically...which she will if she plays more and is commited...but time to retire? why dont we leave that up to her. if she still really loves tennis and is ready to start at the bottom and not be handed WC after WC , then sure she can come back. by come back i dont expect to see her at no.4 but top 100 is a possibility within the near future

Dokic - if she really puts her mind on it, I see no reason why she couldn't get back to top 20.

Stevenson - probably should give it up. She is not really *that* talented and her best results (from 2002) are about on par with her abilities. I doubt she can string together enough injury-free practice time to get back to top 100.

Fernandez - haven't really followed her career...seems she's got lots of injuries.

Um no,clearly in jelena dokic's defense she eventually(years after)got up to 4 in the world and haung aound for a few seasons

And Alex, after slumping got herself together and strung out a nice late 01 and 02/03 seasons;she even got to the to 20(again a few seasons AFTER her slam run)

And if you're ickuding these "slam wonders" where's Lucic!!

I believe dokic was only a few matches from the number 1 ranking as well, so no like everyone else has said about her. She has way too much talent, I just think she needs the belief again.

Dokic has already shown this season she can be a top 100 player easily (and probably above that) with her current mental state and fitness. If she can get in a better mind frame and get herself in better shape (she's not in bad shape, but I feel she could be in better) then she could make a run for the top-50 at the very least. Stevenson is the one who needs to get in better shape NOW. It's really now or never time, she's been getting wildcards for the longest time, and now those are starting to fade it seems. She'll continue getting them into challenger events I assume until she retires, so she should take those. Her once awesome serve has turned mediocre recently. It used to be her biggest weapon, along with her backhand. I have to think that her lack of fitness contributes to a loss of pace on her serve. I'd like to see how she does when she gets herself back into playing shape again. Her results really aren't *that* bad for what people say. Fernandez is a sad story with all her injuries. She's been working herself back though *again*. Last season she started around 400 if I remember correctly and she's hovering around the 150 mark now. With more match play, I can see her in the top 100, if somehow she stays injury free. I honestly don't think we'll see her in the top-30 again, but I could be wrong. Overall, if these girls enjoy playing still, I'd say they should keep at it. They've been at or near the top before, so why not shoot for it again?

Stevenson might as well be retired, her game is too inconsistent, she's not fit, she's mentally fragile...the list goes on.

Clarisa and Jelena are awesome so they should stick around
