She better make an effort cause her ranking will fall badly again if she doesn't show up at all...

Does Serena really care what ranking she is, she is a multiple GS champion, she has been #1, I am sure if Serena is determined to come back and try and win more slams she won't care who or at what stage she has to play a top player, she will believe she can win.

Yes she will avoid Craybas by playing against Clijsters in the first round

If it falls too far, she will have to get a wildcard to enter tournaments because she will be ranked too low to get automatic entry. It didn't hurt Clijsters any thou. She also loses bye spots by being ranked at a certain level.

 yes, but I am talking about a fit Serena mentally and physically who is determined to be at the top again, put another way if you were Kim, Amelie or Lindsay would you want Serena in the first round.

serena, this is not the time to try and make a miraculous comeback from the depths of the top 100, come on get your ass in gear, people will be plenty satisfied with a comeback from outside the top 40. :p

yeah, but who's to say she's going to get fit. I just don't want to see an out of shape Serena get murdered out there in the 1st round. That should never happen, ever.

Oh Serena :o

I really do hope she gets back to the top, and defending these Dubai points is a start. It's a shame to see her struggling like this, although it's clear she is lacking the fitness (and the motivation it seems) to compete at the highest level at the moment.

Whilst some may hate to admit it, the game does need her - she is, along with Maria and Venus, one of the most recognisable tennis players in the world.

And she does provide tennis boards with a lot to talk about ;)

She will get fit if she still has the desire, that is the big question mark over Serena at the moment, if she has still has the desire to be a champion then the rest will fall into place.

She's gotta let the ranking go, and get it together health-wise. Then get her weight WAY down, and her footspeed way up. She doesn't need to be seeded at Roland Garros, just make the main draw.

Serena is the type of women who can be ranked 170 and still win a grandslam. I say chill out and get conditioned and don't rush your heath. I think she is healthy but I don't think she is 100%. I think she wants to play so bad but knows that she has to be in great shape. This will take time. Her knee problems are no joke and I think she came back to soon imo.

Serena hasn't really been 100% since the beginning of 2005.

Serena does not care ranking. She does not focus on tennis completely. She enjoys with the other commercail income sources without injury. The other girls can not . Therefore they focus completely on tennis.

Playing the way she played first round at the AO???

You bet they'd want her first round.

What is the problem with Serena's health? I thought she said she was 100% at the AO.

Serena hasn't really been 100% since the beginning of 2005.

No matter how good she is, Serena wouldn't win a slam ranked 170. She can't even win a few matches in a slam now.

Serena was fine for most of 2004. It's the ankle that's caused the shape issues.

Serena hasn't been 100% but that's her own fault since she just doesn't seem to try to even great into decent shape

Given her current form, I wouldn't say that at all now. I don't think people understand how bad her form really is right now... It's not that she can't move well, she's also lost alot of her power. Players like Venus, Sharapova, Davenport and even Justine could out-hit her right now.

Wow, a few posters are really excited that they are seeing this unfold right before their own eyes. Serena is falling in the rankings. It's party time!  Kim fell to something like the low 100's and she didn't have this much fanfare.

The ranking is falling and will continue for a while until her health and fitness are where they should be. Serena has proven herself many times and when she is ready both physically and mentally she will do so again.

Gloat now and have a merry ole cheering party because we all know that you are haunted. In the back of your mind you still have a feeling that eventually Serena will come out of her slump and destroy your favorites. It must be frightening! :tape:

I think we're all seeing the day in age we feared: the fall and inevitable retirement of a talented tennis player that's wasted their abilities.

Get a grip. It's not frightening. Why is it frightening to think someone might lose a tennis match?? I think this says much more about how you regard your favorites. Somebody wins, somebody loses, and real life goes on humming. People who are that upset by a loss of a tennis match need psychological help.

And sure, Serena might choose to dedicate herself to tennis again and come back and do well. I think that is a distinct possibility. I think having Martina on the tour now will act as a big spur to her pride, and that will be good too.

But if she wants to show up and play like she did at AO, I'm all for it. :) :)

i agree, if Serena is in good shape, she could be ranked 170 and still win a slam. :worship:

And to the poster that said "Imagine Serena playing qualies" i really doubt ANY tournament would put Serena Williams in the qualifying round. She would get a WC immediately!

Cant wait for her back, whether that is in Dubai, Miami or even on the clay, ill wait, because I want a healthy Serena, not an injured Serena. :bounce: :bounce:

These are the facts. serena and venus both found the time to play on their little mini tour of exhibitons back in Oct./Nov in seattle, Cleveland and wash.d.c., however when it comes to playing tour events they both are injuried in some way. Over the last 3 years or so neither one has ever played more than 10 events in one year, this makes it extreemly difficult to keep their rankings up.

With all of their athleticism and talent you still have to play often and compete against other world class players to continue to play at such a high level. Both ladies make a very high amount of unforced errors and their serves don't hold up well against other top ten level players at critical times. They both seem very reluctant to even compete anymore in tournaments where other top ten players are entered. Will they both compete in Dubai ? Probably not, if so will they compete with passion and desire or only show up for the appearnce money?

The tennis followers, whether pro followers or con, know that both of these ladies have all the nessecary tools to rise to the top 5 again easily.......the questions are ? Do they still have the desire, determination, the willingness, the patience and WOULD put in the hours of practice and enterning enough tournaments to once again rise to the top?

Has all the MONEY,FAME, alcolades and already their place in history taken their willingness to continue on away? What will their lives be like without tennis? Would they be sucessful in their off court ventures without tennis? could they make millions in their off court business ventures? realistically i seriously doubt it. Other than Aggassi , McEnroe, Grath and a few others, once their tennis careers are over you rarely hear their names. No one outsude of the tennis community ever hears or knows what happened to Edberg, Wilander Samprass or Ivan lendel of even chris evert. When was the last time you heard anythinfg about monica seles or gabbi or Arantra sanches? they ruled tenis for 5 to 10 years. My point is that without tennios both venus and serna would not hold the power and star quality for very long without tennis.

Maybe a break for 1 year or more would be whats needed to get their motivation and desire back. The question we all know is if they did that, would the game pass them by.Whwther they play or not the GAME will continue, life goes on. Other young players will certainly rise and be just as big as they are or once were. Only time will tell their stories. In closing i wouls like to say i wish them both well and regardless the game will still attract followers and continue in it's historic and glorious path. All the best.
