View Full Version : Retired Lower Ranked Players you miss...

I just wanted to have a stroll down memory lane of players that you were used to seeing in the draws, perhaps never a big fan of, but still sort of have fond memories of. I don't know if it makes much sense, but there a lot of players that fit that mold to me. Sidot is one of those players, who I miss seeing thier name in the draw. Along with Sarah Pitowski and Alexandra Fusai. Anyone else share similar memories ?

I don't know what it was about these ladies, and I probably only saw them getting blasted in the 1R of a slam, but for some reason I keep fond memories of them.

hi jamie.dont worry,a thread like this still makes a 100 times more sense than the crap that is brought up often here!i even find it very respectful from you to remember the old times, because so do i very often...
ok,my favs:considering the players you named,i d suppose you are in my age(29),right?some of the girls i liked,were:julie halard-decugis,nat tauziat,lori mcneill,zina garrison,amanda coetzer,dominique van roost,anke huber,iva majoli and so on...that was some kind of era...
and you are right, when you say that it wasnt only big successes, that made us feeling with them.it was much more..aura,spirit...

The Chi sisters and the now retired Janet Lee also I'll miss.

Anne-Galle Sidot! I remember her beating Kournikova at Wimbledon.

Yes..she is ranked #287 in singles and is playing a 50k next week.

I saw her in the Indian Wells qualifying draw a couple of years ago and the French Open doubles draw maybe last year.

I saw her play at a $10K challenger once, that she won.

1. Rita Kuti-Kis: She only had a couple of years of solid, consistent tennis, but was so fun to watch on court. She reminded a lot of fello Hungarian, Andrea Temesvari, who played before her.

2. Camille Benjamen: Saw her play three times and those wierd loopy groundstrokes of hers were crazy but fun to watch.

3. Anabel Ellwood: Still think she could have been great had she wanted it.

4. Catalina Cristea: lovely to watch. rather graceful on court.

5. Nathalie Herremen: Similar style to fellow frenchwoman, Natalie Tuaziat, but just did not quite have the killer instinct I guess for success. Yet I loved watching her play even though she didn't win much.

Petra Mandula - Hit with amazin power, I always remember her as a player who didn't 'try' to hit the ball hard, she just hit it hard! She had great matches with some many top players because she had heavy groundies. However, never really rose to bit prominence due to her moody temprement and slow movement. I awlays loved her game though. Very good doubles player also.

Adriana Gersi- Typical cannon fodder baseliner that was often dominated by top players of the era. However i loved her game. Nice flat groundies, good depth and pace, nice acceleration on her backhand, however she just was too timid and thin to really hurt anyone... in essence she didn't have enough of anything on her shots to do any damage.

Well....tons of them for me!!

Sabine hack - As much as I can remember, she is quite short and played like Amanda Coetzer.

Habsudova - Gosh, She hit the balls really hard!!! especially on her backhand. She used to be one of my fav though. When she was about to retire, she just slowly fade away from the tour rite??

Galvadon - Cant remember much about her style of play but still remember her full lips;) Anyone know her highest ranking???

Marianne Werdel - This lady hit the balls so hard also!!

Anne Grossman - Well...she beat Martina N. once in 1994 :fiery:

Barbara Paulus - Cool girl...love her dressing style, former top 10 player. She bagelled Hingis at French Open but lost though

Judith Wiesner - Good game but not so successful. Should have accomplish more

Studenikova - I love her one handed-Backhand :worship:

I think It should be a lot more but I just need some times to figure out

Yahhhh...I can recall some more now

Remember Shuan Staffords (Not sure about spelling)? The girl whom Venus beat in her first match in WTATOUR.

Patty Fendick was mentioned earlier...She will be remembered as the "FIRST VICTIM OF HINGIS" in the WTATOUR

Also, Marianne De Swart. The big girl with lethal strokes. I like her a lot. She beat Graf once in Brighton but I cant remember the year. :worship:

Question....Well, I'm just curious why lots of us here can remember Jana Nejedly & Katerina Studenikova?? No offence here ok? but I feel like they havent done anything special at all like beating the top players as I can remember.(Ok, correct me if I'm wrong). What r their highest ranking btw?? I think highest rank for Jana is quite low indeed.

I,myself was surprised also to know that I can remember this two girls. Maybe it could be that they both were drawn to play with top girls so many times so I got to see them lived on TV??? ;) well...probably :)
