I'm sure Serena cares about her tennis.

If she was playing and isn't injured she would be going home very very dissapointed if she didnt win the title.

Go to the bookies and see what odds they'll give u on Serena playing a tournament when she's committed to it.

I would assume you wouldn't make too much money.

Pulling out because your *not in shape* is a crap reason. If my faves pulled out for a similar reason I'd be annoyed and Serena has been in bad shape for nearly a year now and still played tournaments.

She keeps going on about training and working yet we only see her with celebs or doing interviews and not going near a tennis court.

At this rate she's not going to play again till the French Open. She'll say she's fit, playing like the #1 and whoever beats her *No player can win a slam in her shape* she'll say that she was the only player in the draw who could do that.

Serena can still win slams but she's deluded if she thinks she can the easy way by not doing anything. Train...Or retire from tennis.

I still think Serena needs to play her way into shape, and this isn't the way to do it.

Excuse me, I don't you or anyone else should be talking about her training or practices. No one here knows if Serena has been practicing or not.

She could very well be practising. She may very well be working out. I don't think the 'problem' is with the appearances, but with the travelling, staying in hotels, eating out at every meal, just generally being away from home even for a few days will do to her practise schedule. So much of tennis has to do with timing and footwork. These are the two things that are the first to be affected by a lack of practise (regardless of the reason) and the two that are the last to come back.

So, she's not fit, pffff.... Miss S Williams, how long do you already know that you have to play in Antwerp? And that wasn't enough to get fit? Mmm... I don't think it's a nice time to be a Serena Williams fan. I wouldn't bother if just said it doesn't interest her anymore, that would be honest and than you know what to expect, but please, don't say 3 days before a tournament starts that you're not fit, even you had enough time to prepare yourself.

I doubt it. I'd be pretty surprised if she didn't play Roland Garros and Wimbledon, unless she seriously injured herself.

I didn't think she would play when I first saw she was announced to play. I don't think many people, even her fans, did think she would play.

I think she'll make an appearance at Dubai or Doha a la last year.

It's true that she could still be practicing, but four hour flights from coast to coast don't leave much time for practicing on a regular basis. Nor do the temptaions of Fashion Week.

Serena certainly has the ability to come roaring back whenever she wants to settle down and get in shape. Problem is that she hasn't ever been this out of shape before.

But, if Hingis can come back playing in shape after 3 years, Serena can certainly do it after (effectively) one year.

Serena can definately do it, its just a matter of how badly she wants it.

weren't people mad that Serena showed up in Ao not in shape and now that she's taking time coming back...they have a problem? So she's miraculously suppose to go from AO to Antwerp and get in tip top shape and play the tournament in what 2 weeks?

Well, the AO started almost a month ago and she is an elite professional athlete, who has a personal trainer. Getting in shape in that amount of time with the resources she has is not unreasonable.

:o Serena is really dissapointing me. And we're not saying she's supposed to be in shape miraculously in 2 weeks. But she has been out of shape for like a year now and she's had plenty of time to get back into shape. So it's obvious she doesnt have tennis as her top priority otherwise she would have been playing consistenly and frequently around the time of the French Open last year!

No. They were amused, not angry. Maybe some of Serena's fans were angry, but those of us who are not fans weren't upset at all. In fact, if she wants to continue to play as she appeared at Oz, I'm happy. It's fun to watch.

And hearing Serena's fans talk about how she is injured and can't possibly be in shape despite her not having played since... when was it? a few rounds in the USO, or talking about how she can win the AO despite being obviously in sorry condition is fun too.

Hope that clears up things for you. :wavey:
