 or  at this year's 2006 Australian Open?

Yes, it's that time of year when STAR SPORTS tortures fans based on this side of the world with weird, Allen Wilkens, biased or down right mental broadcasting choices of matches.

We tennis fans of rival players unite to find one common enemy, but wait
VJ Amitraj probably won't be here, since it's not his club like the All England Lawn Cricket, and Tennis Club. Wimbledon, to non-exlusive paupers like you or me. No, our common enemy for two weeks will be STAR SPORTS!

I'm not holding my breath to see Justine on Vodafone day 1, because damn...there's Peng Shuai on some parking lot court in the back that they may have to air during the same time frame. :tape: But, hey at least Sania isn't in our half of the draw, and I won't have to hear her called the "world's greatest forehand, and future grand slam winner".

Send the (cough, cough) love to this address..

True, but we'll be stuck all day hearing about how great she is... with interviews, mini profiles , day in the life of Sania!, the day that Sania played Serena at the AO 2005...

The tv coverage starts at 8:00am (S'pore/HK/China) time Monday. And we should be able to see Lindsay- from here on?

By the way on Friday- we won't get the full day session. They're showing "live" basketball midday or something.. :tape:

Friday Jan 20

The problems you guys have with asians, we are having something similar in US. We get to see matches of others ONLY when no american is playing. Even Kevim Kim's (a lowly ranked american in men's side) match would be preferred by ESPN2 over matches of JHH, Momo, etc. So, its a problem everywhere.

I had similar problems with Wimbledon last year. Eurosport has no rights to broadcast it, so I watched it on German DSF. For example they showed 4 or 5 hours long marathon between Arthurs and Popp (GER) which ended about 15-13 in the 5th set instead of some brilliant matches :o... Same with Kiefer, Mayer etc... Thx God Haas and Groenefeld were knocked out in the first round ;)
But that fact really makes me appreciate the work of Eurosport International. They really show these matches which promise to be the best ones. Hopefully they will keep it up throughout Aussie Open this year :D

I guess, every country should have TWO channels showing tennis full-time during grand slams. One of them should show all the great matches going on, and the other focussing on their local heroes. That should pacify most people. However, there would still be ppl unhappy, particular ppl who live in a different country and wanting to follow their local players closely. But then, World is not fair to everyone!

Hopefully this year's coverage will be better (yeah like that's going to happen ;)) and we get to see interesting and top matches instead of snorefest featuring people like Farmer Tim.

They're showing Hantuchova-Obata instead of Nalbandian-Udomchoke.

Star Sports is getting the international feed, which means they don't get to use their own commentators (unless it's post-match analysis).

The Saori set was a tape delay.

So, far pretty good for SS today. The feed went to start off Nal on Center Court with Fred Stolle "live" commentary. No VJ or Allen! Hurrah.

Maybe there's hope for Vodafone, and Justine's match later on.

Exactly. I hope people don't get the wrong impression. We all know that Asian players are the nicest, most personable players on tour. And off course, we'd all wish them great success in their careers.

It's all good, but when it's comes to watching grand slams there's favorite elite/star players that I enjoy. And I'm paying cable TV fees here, so I really want to see the contenders of the event. The big occassion matches. '

*I'm sorry. I was waiting for this match today, but VJ's and Allen Wilkens are kiling the Hingis match. They can't even remember Vera's name, and act as if she's a terrible player. When they were raving about the "Russian revolution" and how the Belgians were over last year at this time.

I also noticed that they didn't even mention Sydney- with Justine kicking Martina down back to earth after Gold Coast.

Michaela will test Sania? You got to be kidding! As if the winner of this match is already decided. :tape:

What happened to the Aussie commentary feed we had last night during Serena's match? I want Aussie commentary. Vj doesn't know anything about women's tennis. I'd wish he'd shut up about 87, 98, 99- Yes we Martina won that, but in women's tennis years it's almost a lifetime ago.

Why did Allen say hi to Sania's family?, and a special hello to "lucky" Vj's wife?

THe stupidest mistake ever...

when their coverage started, they went straight to the rod laver arena forgetting that they will start at show court 3.then ana ivanovic walked in.Alan said,he comes sania mirza and then when samanta walked in,suddenly the crowd went extra craazy, then only alan realized that they were in the wrong court.Without further ado, they straight rushed for the mirza's match. An error fest

They said, after the commercial break a while back, that we'd get Hewitt and Hingis but this Hewitt match is going on and on.. so, maybe not. I'll try again in half an hour or so. Not a big deal, I just miss my finesse tennis - Justine keeps getting these morning matches and, much though I love her, I'm not getting up at stupid hours of the night to watch her drama queen early round act. ;)

this is where the bbc have excelled itself in its wimbledon coverage,we have freeview in the uk which is a cheap digital box(digital will replace exsisting services here soon so everyone in the uk will have to have freeview to watch tv) thats plugs into normal aerial and means we get a choice of five matches at once with its interactive service :)
