1) Arantxa - French Open 98 - defeated Seles at a time when she was written off and won her 4th slam in a different era, fantastic. Her and Monica played so well, especially the 1st set!

2) Jennifer Capriati - SF Miami 02 - She beat Seles in a 3rd set tiebreaker saving 2 matchpoints along the way. Power tennis at its best, they were both hitting the lines and corners and angles so well, it was a real thriller!

3) Elena Dementieva - 1st rbd Chase Championships - defeated Davenport. Elena just took Lindsay on, on one of Lindsay's favourite surfaces. She showed tremendous athletic ability and power that took Lindsay down!

Now ur turn :D

Lindsay vs. Serena 2001 US Open. I think both ladies played well and it was thrilling to watch.

Jenn vs. Martina- this years Oz open- enough said

Jenn vs. Monica- '91 Us Open- This still ranks as my favorite match that I have ever seen. They were teenagers and had so much promise for the future. Little did they know they both would be going through so much the next decade. Now look at them. They are still top 10- top 5 even. Great effort from both.

conchita bt arantxa 6-1 6-2 french open 2000 semi finals.
the head to head record suggested only 1 winner, and they had only played a few weeks before with arantxa a straight sets winner, but wow       conchita just didn't make an error. it was the most consistently good i have EVER seen her play.

monica bt sabatini 6-1 6-0 canadian open final 1995
for obvious reasons, seles' first final, and she was just unstoppable! :p

jennifer bt huber wimbledon 1st round 1999 (i think)
it was put on late on centre court and was a thriller - both girls were playing their best, but bad light stopped play at 5 - 5 in the final set! jencap went on to win!

Venus Williams defeating Lindsay Davenport at Wimbledon 2000--That is the day that Venus truly came into her own. She has been pretty unstoppable since then.

Serena Williams defeating Martina Hingis at US Open 1999- The Williams family tennis dynasty began with this unexpected victory. Serena's reaction when Martina's ball sailed long on matchpoint was amazing.

Daniela Hantuchova defeating Martina Hingis at IW 2001- Facing Hingis is never an easy task, but Hantuchova kept her game together to win her first title in her first final.

Gabriela Sabitini defeating Steffi Graf at US Open 1990- Gaby was always one of my faves and to see her finally win a grand slam and beat her nemesis was a great feeling.

Arantxa: (Ahhh, chosing one match is difficult!) Although I think her US Open win in 94 was one of her best wins, my favourite match is probably RG 98 too as she had come back from a poor 97 and arguably her win was very unexpected. It was against a player I have a lot of respect for, and both Monica & ASV played great.

Steffi: No contest, Wimbledon 95 final against ASV. Even though I'm still sad Arantxa lost! it was a great final though!!

Daniela: IW this year - superb achievement. (this is the fav so far....)

Not the best quality tennis, just my personal favs :D

M. Serna: it has to be the Mary Pierce match in Wimbledon 2000. So many fond memories of that one :) - this is actually my most fav match ever.

C. Martinez: again against Mary Pierce, RG 99 - I re-became a fan of Conchita that day. If she only showed that fire normally.

A. Sanchez: this is a tough one, because I am not so happy about this victory now in hindsight, but at the time it was. Arantxa defeating Conchita in the QF of the Barcelona Olympics 1992, ensuring a medal for Arantxa. I have always had a thing for the Olympics, and at the time, I thought Conchita's talent would carry her into much bigger acomplishments than Arantxa.

Bea - Magui's win against Pierce was *fantastic* One of my favs too :) ;)
Interesting you picked Arantxa's win against Conchi in the Olympics - I remember that match well.

don't forget Pam's amazing doubles match last year at wimbledon.... :p

Lindsay Davenport def. Mary Pierce US Open 1998 - i still love that match. and then she went on to win her first major which was absolutely amazing :D

Lisa Raymond def. Alexandra Stevenson 2002 - lisa beat alexandra in the final and won another title, proving that she is just as much a singles specialist as she is a doubles expert.

Serena Williams def. Martina Hingis F US Open 1999 - the first grand slam win by either of the williams sisters. watching serena crumble after she won in the tiebreak was one of the greatest things ever. her sincere happiness was so great to watch.

Barbara Schett - 1r of RG 01 against Venus Williams. Stunned Venus and probably everybody else. Babsi went on to the 4r.

Daniela Hantuchova - IW final '02 against Martina Hingis. Martina is so good and the fact that Dani kept her wits to win it.

Anastasia Myskina - think it was 3r or QF against Venus Williams (again ;) ) at Amelia Island '02. Nastya played so magnificent and tough that her opponent said she thought it was like playing the number one player at times

Chris Evert and Steffi Graf had so many....

Well you know, I only have one favorite (so narrow-minded!)

Arantxa -- 1994 defeat of Steffi in Montreal, went to third set tiebreak and Arantxa hit one of those "I'm standing on the baseline and hitting this drop shot" at a deuce in that tie-break! (not as spectacular as her famous dropshot-on-matchpoint against Reggi, but wow! what guts! AND...I was there!)

Arantxa -- 2001 Amelia Island against Hingis (need I say more?) AND..I was there!

and this last one will prolly surprise you:

Arantxa -- 2002 Charleston against Myskina -- that match that showed me "the old" Arantxa was BACK -- AND.... Randy and Karl and Panda were there [oh, OK, I was too! :) ]

....man, I have *got* to learn how to type!!!

1) Seles - d. Hingis in SF at 98 Roland Garros.
Let's face it, Seles has provided so much entertainment and drama and such great quality matches it's hard to note just one. This was probably the most significant though given the timing of it, the importance and the player she was playing (who she crushed).

2) Pierce - d. Hingis in SF at 98 Roland Garros.
For some reason, I am listing this one ahead of the final, I think that was because the tennis in this match was of greater quality and the match was much more dramatic. And I felt this was her biggest obstacle on the way to the title that if she was to win this match, she would stand a greater chance in the final. Again, Pierce has provided so many great matches throughout the years, hard to pinpoint one.

3) Rubin - d. Sanchez-Vicario in 4R at Australian Open.
Was it 4R or QF? This was one of the most dramatic matches I'd ever watched and I really admired Rubin's courage and tenacity that from that point on, she became one of my favourites. What a GREAT MATCH!

Marsha, Arantxa could only be so fortunate to have such a loyal fan. She is great and I love how she reacts to the crowds cheers. Did you see her reaction during doubles final at AI when the ball hit Salerni during play? She felt horrible and was doing a little wave to her apologetically and kept doing it until Salerni noticed. :)

I see from this thread, she does have quite a few loyal fans and left all with some really good memories. Definitely a legend already.

Justine- Bt. Venus in Berlin in 2001. This was her first big win over a top ten player and she stunned Venus and everybody else. This would lead to a great run at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Anna- Lipton '98 all the matches she played were exciting even though she lost in the finals.

Mary- def. Seles at Roland Garros 2000, she would beat Seles get confidence and beat Martina and Conchita to win in fornt of her home crowd.

1) Justine: against Jennifer at Wimbledon. Those second and third sets were just amazing, her game ther was not only good, but beatiful to the eyes. If she could play always like that ...

2) Martina: hmmm, I would say against Jana at Wimbledon. She changed entirely the strategy and did nearly everything you can imagineyou can do on grass.

3) I am in trouble, who is my third favourite? I have a bunch of players in that place not being able to decide for one, I can't think of a particular match...
