I think it's great that Lindsay opted to head straight to Melbourne rather than going home [as I assumed she would] so that jet lag won't be an issue and she won't pick up bugs [or bronchitus!] by flying around.

Can't wait for the draw! Actually, when's it out?

do you honestly think so LindsayRulez? I admire your honestly and wish I could be more hopeful but l voted in another thread that she won't win a Slam this year. How I hope to be proven wrong!!She definitely has a chance in Australia but then doesn't she have a chance in every slam (bar the french obviously) and something always goes wrong. Cmon Lindsay prove me wrong and LindsayRulez right!

Well, blatantly, she should have won last year and would have [I think] last year without doubles.

I am very excited about Wimbledon this year for Lindsay but ultimately I think she can do it at the AO too.

Meh... I still don't think she would have won. Losing the 3-4 game wasn't just because she was exhausted, that was a mental thing too. But she wouldn't have lost the final set 6-0.

Nah this going to be the year where everything goes right for Lindsay in the slams as she said herself she's playing for the slams not the ranking this year and that in itself has to be step in the right direction.

A side note Lindsay even rated a mention on the local news last night an after thought after Maria but a mention none the less.

Guys relax, I'm in athletic training and what Lindsay is wearing in a type of compression sleve that just keeps the thigh muscles all loose and warm, people wear them all the time, Todd Martin wore them them for every match before he retired. If she had some type of ace bandage or taping around it that would be more indicative of an injury.

Don't read too much into it Lindsay has one hip that's weaker than the other and if my memory serves corretly its the left one and she wears bangage on the thigh to support it as he above post says it just to keep it warm.

In Nouf's thread in GM... but it went to *3-2 and then apparently the program couldn't run it! WHAT!? Gutted. Lindsay was very all or nothing in terms of her serve and groundies... Kim brought the same gameplan - getting all the balls, lack of pace angles to space.

I downloaded it cause I like to see Lindsay play and also to see where she's at. And I like Kim. There! My dirty secrets out.

Well, i just read tha Kim is doubtful over Aus open. Though you can bet your last dollar that she'll enter just to wind Lindsay fans up! ;)

BBC tennis says that Kim said the pain in her side is really deap and she's not sure what caused it but it feels worse when she serves. I bet she might turn up at the Aus but not sure how much it will affect her.

Seems Lindsay is still hanging onto the #1 by a shoe string, but by playing the exo as a warm-up probably has done Lindsay good as you know she doesn't like to play more than 2 weeks in a row.

Not sure about that strapping. I have just come to the concusion that Lindsay feels safe with it on. Most tennis people have continued problems with their ankles, wrists or knees and will have precautionary strapping on. Lindsay has continuos flair-ups of thigh injures, so I guess (and am hoping) that the strapping is precautionary and for support.

Footnote: Tim blows, as does Murray! I would so much prefer it if the media didn't blow him up to be a world beater and let him get on with it but unfortunatley i feel we're going to have to deal with "Murray Mania" from now on. I just his brother doesn't become a success in doubles either, or else we'll have to deal with two of them!

So Beck, if you get a chance, please do push Tim or Andy in front of a tram or perhaps kidnap them and frog march them to the top of Rod Laver and throw them off...just to make a point. Maybe it might be better to save one of them for Wimbledon - throw them off Centre or something........

In my mind even if Kim's goin' to play at AO she'll be probably not 100% fit...her serve though was really impresive so she could then hurt somehow her back, strain a muscle or something...The pain she feels is "sharp" so she's definitely a doubt for the open at the moment - till MRI reveals something else what da doctors will take care of easily.
We'll know what's her actual condidtion tomorrow after MRI.
Meanwhile Lindsay stays at the top of the ranks for 2 more weeks :bounce: at least...and hopefully she will have a good result in Melbourne and will get this 100 weeks as the n#1.;)

Kim has had "serious injuries" before slams alot, and shows up playing fine. I think it's alot like what Graf used to do. She used to claim injury constantly before slams to take the pressure off, and to establish an excuse for an impending loss. I think Kim will play, and will probably be fine.

Jan 11th, 2006, 06:40 PM
Maybe you're right Andrew..but it's not been a fact yet, so lets wait untill some proper statements from Kim herself are made - and the results of MRI are revealed...However, I'd say your prediction someway could be even more possible than a real "serious injury", but I doubt it'd be your dreamed situation before Oz Open'06. :p

I think the Golden Retriever will pull out if she's injured. She has set a definite retirement date and probably doesn't want to miss a large portion of '06 for Oz when she might not be at her best anyway. Of course, her schedule has never been very logical anyway.

If Kim has a tear in her hip muscel she's out of the oz open if its a strain she'll play. I was just watching Sydeny coverage there was no word as she was supose to pick up prize money and hadn't turned up. If Kim pulls out of the OZ open there is a pretty good chance Lindsay will get to 100 weeks at number 1.

I have just read on fox sports Kim has inflamed tendon and muscel and will be in tommorow's draw she is having further treatment and is leaving it until Sunday to decided to wheather to play or not.

I find this Kim "injury" hysterical. She pulled the exact same thing in 2004. "Oh! I don't know if I can play! I hurt! I decide Sunday! Hearts kisses!" Suprise, she played, and played well.

I don't want Mary. Lindsay has lost to her the last two times they've played. She's screwing up against her. Venus, I'd take. Lindsay killed her in HK. Injury or not, that's a serious confidence booster.

Kim's the only player certain to be in the other half and that's a pretty nice certainty.

Justine's everything is working right now, the width she was getting was amazing and she was doing the annoying I'll get all the balls back thing [including smashes!] until you make an error and get in a really bad mood and want to shoot yourself.

Andrew..
Jan 12th, 2006, 05:10 PM
That's Kim's gameplan. Justine actually has a pretty game with pretty strokes. Unlike Kim's completely fucked up ground game.

Elldee

Kim has sturdy concise strokes, biting serve, good volleys, good touch but she's never going to get anybody saying she has THE best backhand or forehand or whatever, in terms of her domination, it's all down to her movement. Justine has better groundies and then matches Kim's other strengths.

Anyway, Lindsay's the best!

Also, I know anyone who ever saw Kim or Justine play would know what I said, but I'm insanely bored.

Madame Henin-Hardenne is again in her true top form. She's dynamic, extremaly fast and agressive, serving bout 120mph (Vs SvetaK) plus all the fight spirit she has-what means she's more dangerous for us than Pierce, Sharapova, Mauresmo or even Clijsters and WS...let's hope she won't be in the top half.
Most importantly Lindsay looks like really fit I guess so she's prepared well physically and hopefully mentaly will handle it in the final lol.
____________________________________________
THE SERVE: I've noticed Linds made some small improvements to her serve-like added a little more spin/slice or... What U think?...Nevertheless, it didn't look good in HK (when she did many dfs) and was not consistant that much as it should be or as it was last year. She'll have to serve better after 4th rd in Melbourne ;)

The draw is set in about an hour...it's exciting.
Justine was brilliant through all her matches in Sydney - she's a bigger threat to Linds than Pierce whos' actual form is not known yet.
Lets hope for those players in top half:
(3)Mauresmo, (6)Petrova, (7)Schnyder and
(9)Dementieva,(11)Dechy (15)Schiavone, (16)Vaidisova
for a good start;)

Haha, I was reading a Kim transcript from Sydney and found this mildly funny:

Q. How disappointing is this?

KIM CLIJSTERS: It's shit. It's terrible. Like today I felt like I was, in practice, sort of the first one that I felt like I was hitting the ball well, I was seeing the ball well. Then, yeah, with that serve I couldn't follow through. Really sharp pain. I tried to just stretch it out a little bit, you know, do some like movements to loosen it up, my hip better or my back. From then on it just got worse and worse. So it's, yeah, it's not good.

I think yes Lindsay has a tough draw, but thats when she does her best, when everyone writes her off and she flies low under the radar (RG last year), its the ones where her way is paved for her that she chokes big time...shes good at buckling down when she knows its gonna be hard, but its the last step to bring it all home that she still has a hard time with.......I like her chances if she can get past Serena and Venus, there's no one that can stop her mentally in the final, I feel

gossipcom
Jan 13th, 2006, 01:44 AM
Yeah she'll most likely go under the radar if she can win her matches in that tough half of the draw. That being said she's playing an Aussie first up so the crowd will definitely be on Casey's side.

It's not THAT bad. Justine is the favorite to get through, but Lindsay's path to the QF is pretty easy. Side note, Venus leads Justine in the H2H like 8-1.

Lindsay has an esay draw until the fourth round but Kussy is not the worst 4th round Lindsay could've got she getting back to form but she's not there yet and Lindsay has beaten her the two times they have played when Lindsay been fit as for the rest of the draw at least if she win it she will have earnt it.

I think this is the kind of draw Lindsay would be really proud to get through and it could work well. She has a nice easy first round and will have to increase her level a little in the second and third rounds before having to step it up against Kuznetsova in preparation for Henin/Venus like she did against Safina before Clijsters at Wimbledon. Then, she will have to play her best against Venus/Justine [who will hopefully be knackered and carrying an injury after their dog-fight :p], then Sharapova [who will blatantly come through] will be a real test followed by Kim [or Mary?]. It's a lot of tough matches in a short period but I think she can do it... it's a shame that, IMO, the biggest challenge is in the quarters.

More pictures of Lindsay out practicing... no strapping and she looks great.

Still the top quarter is the stongest in the whole draw:p
Henin is having some problems with Schiavone in Sydney final(4/6,7/5
3rd set 1-0 Franny leads) so let's hope she won't beat Venus ;)
Sveta is really improving...so she will give Linds a hard time in one set
(probably a tiebreak)...Semis are also tough...Mauresmo and Schnyder have the easiest way to the 1/4 and a QF Kim VS Mary:p

I've been looking at the draw and I don't think it's all that bad, even though it is the "nightmare" draw we were dreading.

Kuznetsova: Going very cack, very quickly. Hard to remember she ever won a Grand Slam.

Justine/Venus: Justine keeps getting a virus that could flair up any minute (so that is unpredictable) which seems to make her play all bad (I hope it doesn't flair up). Justine had a struggle against Schiavone in the final, plus she didn't have a highly challenging run there. Venus isn't playing well hasn't played since Hong Kong, and before that in september, I think. Although Venus is one to hit form when you least expect it, Lindsay did beat her in HK. It could well have been a confidence booster, whether it was an Exo of not.

Serena/Maria: Serena hasn't played since around september and lost early in HK to Dementieva (was it? I didn't quite follow the even so I don't know). It seems that she is very sluggish at the moment. Maria, has this pec strain or dislocated rib (whatever the heck that is!?). Apparently, it won't make it worse by playing but I'm not sure how you can play with a dislocated anything without it hurting!

In a nut shell, Lindsay's half of the draw is littered with people coming off a long lay-off, out of form or just simpily carrying an injury.

Last year, we were marveling at the amazing draw Lindsay had, but made it hard for herself against Dechy AND Molik! This year she has a tough draw and we're ranting about how tough it is!? Perhaps she is more likely to remain focused the tougher the draw? Or maybe the new factor in having Delucia will make a difference.

Roll on monday! :woohoo:

Definitely the biggest threat is Ma'am Hardenne -underrated favorite for the title- and she's actually in our quarter of the draw... so it is obvious that it was not a good draw for Lindsay...maybe if she got Maahrryy in 1/4 we'd be more satisfied?
You can't say that Maria and WS who are somehow injured thus not a hard path to the final becouse they're always dangerous in the slams not like Vaidisova, Mauresmo or Myskina...

Kuznetsova is actually starting to play some good tennis again and achieve some consistancy... she won't beat Lindsay, but she's got a lot of talent and essentially, she is far from 'cack' [in my opinion].

I'm not gonna look past Henin because although Schiavone troubled Justine she, a) came through it and b) Schiavone is perhaps the player most opposite to Lindsay. Again, Justine's width scared me.

IO agree with Grand Slam
As I wrote before Sveta will give Lindsay a hard time - like a tiebreak in one set...
And Justine didn't play her best in Sydney final, so that Schiavone got some chances which she wouldn't get if HH played better...and Schiavone is an uncomfortable opponent for every player out there, but still it was weird how HH missed some shots which she wouldn't miss against Lindsay:p (coz Dav wouldn't get those balls back)...

huh?

I do agree. My statement was made in reflection to her performance towards the end of last year after Wimbledon, her year began to snowball, hence "going very cack, very quickly". I don't deny that he has a lot of talent, that isn't what I was reflecting in my statement. She has talent which is why she won a Grand Slam, but as I said it's hard [at the moment] to see that she ever was a Grand Slam champion.

I haven't personally seen any evidence of her hitting form [ie watching her progess on TV], but then again I haven't seen her play since US Open (don't think I saw any of her matches during the indoors). She did well at Sydney, but that's all I know. :)

For me its the nightmare draw. I didn't think she was going to win OZ anyway because I think the Slam dream died at Wimbledon but with this draw she could potentially be out by the 4th round or quarters. She is going to have to play out of her mind in every match to get near the final! Another cakewalk for Kim and yet another piss easy draw for Momo, #3 seems to be the ranking to have. Feck it its going to be tough and desperately nerve racking but it will also be extremely exciting, cmon Lindsay!

possibly true about the #3 ranking, wasn't Lindsay the number 3 seed in all her GS wins? Oh no, think she was 2 for Aus....can't remember as far back as USO '98 ;) Wimbledon, she was definately #3.

It will be exciting and because of this we can probably guarantee to see most [if not all] of Lindsay's matches on Eurosport or BBC. I don't think broadcasters will want to pass up, Lindsay vs JHH/VW, and/or Lindsay vs Maria/SW. She always gets a piss easy draw yet its 7 years since she made her only slam final. Maybe that says a player is better being tested instead of cruising through to the second week and then going out when they meet a serious player who has been pushed all the way through the tournament.

Lindsay pulled an all out choke, probably one of the worst matches she's played in recent memory. She was up 4-0, had points for 5-0, 5-1 and 5-2. Finally got to 5-3, and then had triple set point on Justine's serve. Ended up losing 5-7 3-6. The thing is, Justine was playing AWFUL tennis that day...seriously horrible. To be honest, I'd be surprised if Lindsay defeats Justine, last two times they met was there, and it was a scaring match, Lindsay was leading but finally lost both of them... Well, to sum up, Lindsay has Kuznetsova, Venus, Justine, Serena, Maria (I don't like her very much but I have to admit she has chances do well there), Petrova... Well, Lindsay reaching the quarterfinal would be realistic, then... who knows?

In case anyone is interested and to those of you who this applies to stop being so negitive about Lindsay chances the matches still have to be played. Some more positive comments from Lindsay today-
Davenport, who lost three Grand Slam finals last year including the Australian Open, begins 2006 with a new coach and a renewed commitment to the sport.

"I'm really excited for this year," said Davenport, who has not won a Grand Slam title since the 2000 Australian Open.

"I wouldn't have changed coaches and worked so hard if I wasn't really committed to another full year and hopefully accomplishing some more things in my career.

"Hopefully I'll be able to get back to a final or two and have an opportunity to play a better final this year."

wow, didn't know about that. Sorry. The only live stream I've ever managed to get was in Moscow last year but that was via their website. I think you should try the Chinese channel CCTV-5 they generally broadcast big sporting events. Sky broadcasts one of their channels (CCTV-9). I used to have a link to it, but lost it when I had to reformat my PC.

I can't find the link. If you ask in GM's someone there will know!

I was pleased to see Lindsay opening up on the main court....Eurosport will have to show it, because there's nothing else worth watching (unless Tim is on first on court 276 in which Case Euro will HAVE to show that!)

Install this software, it's peer to peer so the more people watching the better the pictue quality!

Aus Open coverage will be on StarSports, not CCTV-5.

Install the software, when it's running it'll ask what channel you want. StarSports is in strange symbols on the list so just open any channel. when you've done that there should be a little icon in your botton right tool tray on your computer screen. it looks a bit like a TV. right click on it, roll onto "select channel" then click on StarSports.

I've been watching federer/safin rerun from last year. Quality is excellent but buffers a few times. though its annoying, it's not unwatchable.

Try it!

Lindsayfan32, I'm not being negative. Justine plays like crap alot, and still wins. AO 2004, Olympics 2004, Charleston 2005, RG 2005 are all tournaments where she's played horrible tennis at some point, and still won. I'm not saying that Lindsay is absolutely losing that match - it's probably around 50/50. But implying that Justine is a non-threat to Lindsay is ridiculous.

Anyway, I like Lindsay's attitude. She actually seems like she cares about things, which is good. Clearly she understands that things need to change to win a slam, and I'm glad she's pun new plans into place. I feel that if she wins one slam, she's going to win more after that. It's all mental at this point.

Robbie.

It's good to big back on the net.

As for Lindsay's draw, well most things that can be said about it have been said. I would be surprised if she lost before the quarterfinals, and from then on anything could happen. One thing I have to point out though with these draws is that even if a draw looks stacked it can fall apart pretty quickly. It happened at Wimbledon with the third quarter of death, and it wouldnt surprise me if the top half is looking a bit thinner by the end of the third round.

I've been watching federer/safin rerun from last year. Quality is excellent but buffers a few times. though its annoying, it's not unwatchable.

I really do think DiLucia is a bit of a hard ass from what I'm reading, certainly him and Lindsay are working on 'tactics' and the 'mental side' and stuff she hasn't done for a 'long time' and it's 'nice to get some more interjection'.

Roll on Lindsay!

Aus Open coverage will be on StarSports, not CCTV-5.

No probs about the links guys, glad to be of help. At least it's there for me to use as well if need be.

To the person who asked if it could be recorded onto hard drive. I guess so, but you have to have the recording software on your PC, I think you can get some free but I don't knwo where. Sorry.

Lindsayfan32

Lindsayfan32, I'm not being negative. Justine plays like crap alot, and still wins. AO 2004, Olympics 2004, Charleston 2005, RG 2005 are all tournaments where she's played horrible tennis at some point, and still won. I'm not saying that Lindsay is absolutely losing that match - it's probably around 50/50. But implying that Justine is a non-threat to Lindsay is ridiculous.

Of course she is a threat to Lindsay Andrew you get no argument from me there but don't right her off until the match is played its not played on paper. If she plays against Lindsay with play like in the Sydney final Lindsay will have a good chance of beating her.

My day has been made came home from being out Lindsay win 6-2 6-1 and Venus has been beaten the first round after serving for the match at 5-4. My greatest dream now no Williams sisters by end of the first week. Watched Lindsay match on tape and she played a good match.

RayRob

Well Venus out, Dementieva out, Golivine out (though never really a threat) Serena won 6-2 in the final set having lost the second set tiebreak. things are looking fairly good and opening up really quickly. Serena does seem a bit out of form. She's usually one for starting showly and working her way back in....but we'll see ;)

Though Lindsay started the match badly [IMO], she soon stepped up in the second set. More winners, less UE's and served better. I think she's just having to get used to the sun in Aus. I know she's been there a week already but practice cannot bring out the things that would arise in a match.

Lindsay seemed relaxed at the end in the interview and suprised even me when she said that she thinks should could beat anyone (or something to that nature). I like the confidence - great :yeah:

I'd say you will get your wish Lindsayfan. Serena was very poor today, she ousted Na Li in the third 6-2 but Na Li had 58 U.E and had loads of opportunities that she blew. Serena won't get away with it for very long more.

Although I'm not glad Lindsay took a tumble, it's nice to know that the patch on her knee is essentially a plaster!

Loved Lindsay's outfit... she needs a smaller skirt though, IMO. Not that impressed with her play but this kind of scoreline is great for a first round... although I don't think she hit a volley the entire match I definately think the intention was there.

Did any Brits think Casey Delacqua looked like Jennifer Ellison in the face?

Waited to see her play for so long...some nerves - excitement at the beginning so it was a rusty 1st set indeed...but then when Dellacqua played some tennis Linds characteristically stepped in, served better and moved faster...There was a nice smash on mp.:)
We should blame her opponent for not playing that well to force Linzi to do better...Dav was so relaxed from the 2nd set as it went straight and easy moving her closer to the meeting with Karolina<repeat of 2005 4th rd clash> Can't wait to see that one. ;)
Venus is out...I'd prefered she stayed in the contest, coz I'm more afraid of JHH as she played solidly against Marta Domachowska:(
Dementievas' AO campaign is over...not the first time ended in 1st rd though...
Maria did well...but she's far from her best...Sveta moved through loosing only 4 games
Still the main contender is Hardenne...It's going to be a hard QF definitely:p

I read that Amelie article in the newpaper yesterday and it was bigging up Amelie whilst listing others injuries and they were just dragging up Lindsay's back problems from the summer to make her look less of a contender. Lindsay was fine today and still is.

Also, I'm glad Lindsay knows Wimbledon is her best slam chance.

Yeah, that's what I figured. i read the same article and I think the writers were just attempting to make a point about the injuries in tennis. perhaps it was more aimed at the casual fan who probably doesn't follow the players through out the year.

saw lindsay today practisin' and she's really fit..i'l post a picture in the other thread later :)

when she finally finished practising, lotsa people were there to get her autograph. when she got close to me, i told her "tower of power wish you all the best", she smiled at me and scribbled her name on my mag and i said thanks and you rock.
this little girl holding her wilson jumbo ball said to me, "how come your's is different?" i looked at her ball and said to her, "bcuz i said the magic word" - that was totally random, i didn't even kn0w what's the magic word  and i said to myself, ''maybe bcuz i mentioned TOP" ;)

I was standing on the seat when she left with 5 bodyguards and after her was DiLucia. When he was leaving, i shouted, "DiLucia!"(i think i pronounced his name wrong). He looked up to me and i said to him, "she'll win this, right?" He smiled and raised his eyebrows, i think as a yes, and i replied "good on ya mate" then i left.. He looks way too different from the pic from usta's website..
