Kelly Clarkson top female artist of the year?

Just saw that Kelly Clarkson beat out Mariah Carey as the top female artist of the year according to Billboard magazine. (they finished second and third respectively behind 50 cent for top artists overall)

I guess I am surprised because I remember reading in some earlier post that Mariah was supposedly the top artist of the year but she finished third.

Either way they all had a great 2005 and at least for Mariah, she is going to see more of the same for 2006.

I guess thats surprising since Mariah finished the year witht he biggest single and album in the US charts, but perhaps its buzz and worldwide sales as well (Clarkson sold more in Europe and Oceancia I believe)

Perhaps your right. Although Kelly in the States sold more records than Mariah did. So that could have been part of it.
