Venus Williams did loose today, i have not looked at any threads after Kim beat Venus. I give Kim all the credit for staying in the match, and not giving up. She thought up a new strategy and in the process she got errors from Venus but also she picked it up a level. Normally when a player (besides a williams) does loose, you all take it like well whateva, which is understandable b/c whoever they played most likely the person was a better player and therefore expected the loss, but when Venus or Serena do loose, you all start actin weird and funnie. To me it seems that you all must assume they are some type of Godess and don't have that ability, b/c yall become so ruthless on them and hate on them, and then you act like Kim beat the piss out of her. And when the Interview comes out and kim says that she picked it u a level but also said she told herself to hang in there and hope venus starts to make errors, you all act like that never came out her mouth, you think the only thing she said was that she picked her game up a level and thats how she was able to overcome venus. Kim is a fantastic player, but she knew just like the rest of yall, that if she Venus would had continued to play the way she did in the 1st set, kim would have been long gone. They press tired to bring up the subject that Venus before this tournie and loosing to Kim felt that there was nobody out there that can beat her but herself. Is there any reason for that to change? Kim did end up beating her, but kim didn't step it up to the point that venus couldn't do nuthing. Venus just kept on making erros. As you see in the 3rd when Venus was down 1-4 she got it all the back to 4-5. But it was too late. The fight was over. Venus lost this match b/c of Venus. If she wouldn't have lost her focus and kept playing like she did in the 1st set, she could have won that match easily, even if clijsters picked it up. Venus and Serena are not Goddesses they are just really talented player. Venus and Serena's looses all this were not b/c they got beat, they were b/c they gave the match away. They either were injured and were not 75%, or they hit all those errors after dominating the 1st set to get give the match away. Yes a williams can looose, but do they loose b/c they got beat? That stopped about 2 years ago!

The truth is that Kim stepped it up at the beginning of the 2nd and began to dominate Venus.
THEN Venus started to make errors.

Kim deserves all the credit.

And Venus played a very good match as well.

You also seem to 'forget' that Kim made a lot of unforced errors in the first set and that's why Venus won the set so easily. Once Kim started to make less errors the match was much more even.

Did you even see the match? Kim was at times dominating Venus, she kept pushing her from left to right. So it's quite disrepectful to say that Venus only lost because of herself, she lost because Kim was better on the day. Doesn't mean Kim is a better player than Venus (yet?) only that today she was better and no, not only because Venus made errors but because Kim played better.

Thank you GoDominique!! The sooner people realise that Kim doesn't *gasp* suck on clay, the better!

Josh, you make a very compelling argument about the supposed "Roland Garros Choke".

Different match, different situation.

Justine didn't believe in herself after blowing that lead, Venus kept fighting and never gave up.

Of course it is.

Because its Justine instead of Venus.

Well VenusSerena you did not oviously see the match so how can you say Venus lost the match?

I have not seen the match either but if the reports say that Clijsters stepped up her game and Venus faltered then Kim had to have had some say so in the outcome of the match.

Now, VenusSerena, before you get your panties in a bunch I will agree that on a normal day, the sisters do usually dictate the outcome of their matches.

But just by reading what I have read I have to believe Kim outright won that match today.

IF IF IF

When will people realise that a tennis match is played by two people, not one! If you say Venus beat herself, that basically means that no matter who was on the other side of the court, Venus would have lost. So even if Venus was playing the #500 player in the world, she would have lost, right? That's what beating yourself means.

However, the person on the other side of the net was the #3 player. When you play a better player, you have to take more risks and make more errors, it's that simple.

Venusserena, I asked you three times in the live scoring thread if you were seeing the match live, but you never gave me an answer.

Why do Venus fans have to assume that Venus beat herself and nobody beat Venus?
That's a really arrogant perspective!

This is the only Williams fan I have seen today who handled this poorly. Truthfully, its getting to where fans of other players handle losses more poorly.

Yeah disposablehero is right, VenusSerena is the only Venus fan that handled her loss poorly but that, unforetunately tends to give Venus fans a bad name :( It's unforetunate that after almost every Venus loss, there's always one fan (maybe it's always the same, i don't really pay attention) that has comments like this to say that in turn make Venus fans look bad :(

excuse me how many williams fan do u see who claim that venus beat herself??? i see only one! stop stereotyping all williams fans becuase of one disilusined fan.

there are occasions when the williams do beat themsleves, ala ausopen 2001, nothing that martina did in that match apart form put the ball back in court so venus could make a mistake but this was not one of them. Kim must of played really well cos she could have easily lost it after going down 6-1 in the first set.
