No explanation given on German teletext but it was just on TV

Babsi Rittner withdraws as well.

If their report is accurate, that explains their DEFINITE absence from doubles. It was noticed also Babsi Rittner wasn't in the draw either.

According to Eurosport.com, she has a left foot injury.

No further details, though

martina Hingsi lost again; and what happens: oh no she's injured again. It's always the same with her: if she loses she blames it on a injur: see Miami 2002 and others

The consequences of this withdrawal are that she will fall to at least #7 next week. I doubt she would bring that on herself just because she lost to the World #1.

Sorry to hear that.

I was anticipating so much a Hingis-Henin contest. :(

POOR MARTI!!!!

She just needs her confidence back and stop being pressured to much. She needs to take one tournament at a time. She is too pressured of the coming RG.

Bummer. That's going to weaken the draw a bit.

And poor Barbara seems snakebitten. No sooner does she recover from one injury than she gets another. :(

Well, if Martina withdraws because of the injury, then probably because she let the doubles trophy of BBC slip and it fell on her foot. :o
She was completely okay today.

That doesn't surprise me too much. She probably has some foot problem but basically just wants to practice more. Hopefull she will be fully recovered for Italian Open or at least the French. She really is taking a different approach this year not playing so many tourneys and taking care of her body as much as possible.

Same as my fave Lindsay.

Tennis would not be the same without her on TOP

we all know Marti is the QUEEN, the queen of fakery just like treufreund is the true-faked.

tennisfun,

just because I have manners doesn't mean I am fake. It's Venus's waves to the crowds which are fake.

Not sure how this thread became a slam fest...but to get back to the subject, I am sorry Hingis is injured again. I was hoping to see her face Jennifer in the semi's for an AO rematch. I hope Martina is recovered in time for Paris.

Oh noooooo!!!!

I hope it is not serious, and that Martina only withdrew as a precaution! Maybe this will be better for her in the long run, and it's nice to see that she's more worried about being healthy than chasing points.

I hope she's fully recovered and refreshed for Rome and Paris!

Even before this tournament, there was a report that Hingis was complaining about her foot. I did read that somewhere.

I am sorry that Martina is injured, but after reading treufreund's comments, I think I can apply his statement to Martina too...

Martina is faking an injury to cover up her lost.

You like that treufreund?

Get well soon Martina!! Or you're gonna stay at number 7...

I think it was the right decision - taking a few days off for getting 100% fit again and doing some practice for the French Open :)

yeah u r absolutely right Rhythmboy that's why Hingis decided to undergo surgery, of course, coz she lost the match yeah sure.

U know what if u don't know, and I'm sure u don't better take example from ur fave and keep ur mouth shutt, Rhythmboy.

At no point in time did Martina make any excuses for her loss other than her "own stupid play and serving over and over to the forehand". It was people on this board who somehow thought that because Martina withdrew from Berlin that she did that to "make an excuse" for her loss. This is the supposedly the same girl as last year who was "desperate" to keep her ranking high.????

That is just an opinion... like yours about how Venus is fake.
