so that means that gay men who had one encounter with a girl in their lives are not gay but bi?Oh good to know that my gay friend(more feminine than any female friend I have) is bi and not gay because once when he was very young he slept with a woman(and actually hated it)... :lol:

It's not about who you sleep with/have slept with, it's about who you find attractive and fall in love with - hence the phrase 'sexual preference'.

this thread seems to be more to do with definition, my friend says that there is no such thing as bisexual because at the end of the day someday u will be with (hopefully) either a man or a woman, but as i keep telling her its who your with on the way that helps you. i personally dont always define myself as gay or bi, a lot of people have had experiences with both the same and opposite sex so how can u define everyone. like marmite says its PREFERENCE not EXPERIENCE!

Well, if it is about love and not sex, shouldn't the phrase than be 'love object' instead of 'sexual preference'? ;)

And as we are usually in love with just one individual, whom we have or not have sex with irrespective of our sexual preference - why do we need stereotyping as in bi, gay, lesbian, or straight? Because of our inability to maintain love or to better harass the outgroups?

So, how will you know your preference without having experience? Nature instead of nurture? ;)

With your explanation, the term bi schould apply for everyone and straight/gay/lesbian for when you finally end up with someone.
