Has anyone played a Gay Tournament?

There's a gay tour and I'm wondering if anyone has played a Tournament? I played one in New Hope, PA in 2002. It was pretty fun after I got comfortable.

Back in the mid/late 90s I played 2-3. It was fun. I just loved playing tennis so it was no big deal to me.

That sounds like a lot of fun. How do you go about getting involved with that?

Yeah..washington DC has a fairly large Gay Tennis League that i would like to take part in this spring/summer. They have a few tourneys aswell :D :bounce:

Sorry if I'm ignorant or something, but why should there be special tournaments for gay people? Can't gay people play with straight people? Secluding yourselves by playing tournaments based on your sexual preference just seems odd to me, it is not a step forwards in the direction of acceptance of all people, seems to me to be a step backwards.

it sounds more like just something fun and social for gay people who like tennis. it doesn't seem to be like purposely secluding themselves to me.

Well I don't know considering I have never even heard of them before, but the poster of this thread said there was a gay "tour" which would mean multiple tournaments. I understand they are probably just for fun, but why not just have fun playing tennis with other people, gay and straight, at a local club tournament or something?

Well surely people talk about other things than their sex lives. I don't see why the gay players can't mingle with the straight players in normal clubs :shrug:

Not everyone is that open-minded ;) There are people out there that detest homosexuality, so that is too big a hurdle for many gay players. Of course, there are probably many more occasions on which there are no problems between gay and other players.

Yes but I mean, why do they have to talk about sexual preferences :shrug: They could talk about what they had for dinner last night or the amazing match between Federer and Agassi the night before :o

If someone wants to enter how do they know if they're gay? Do they make them pass the gay test i.e making out with someone from the squad? :o
