Since I haven't seen the match yet I don't know if this is even true or if this is just an ESPJEN spin on Kim's win. Guess I will find out later on OxyJENN network at 5EST.

Clijsters avenges U.S. Open loss to Venus
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
HAMBURG, Germany -- Kim Clijsters rallied from a loss in the first set to beat top-ranked and defending champion Venus Williams 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Betty Barclay Open on Sunday.

Venus Williams had no answer for Clijsters' powerful groundstrokes in the second and third sets.

The 18-year-old Clijsters, ranked No. 3, lost in straight sets at the U.S. Open in her only other match against Williams. She advanced to the final when Jelena Dokic withdrew in the semifinal round because of injury while leading 6-4, 4-4.

Williams, who beat Martina Hingis to reach the title match and retain the No. 1 ranking for at least another week, capitalized on 12 unforced errors by Clijsters to easily win the first set.

In the second and third sets, Clijsters kept her powerful groundstrokes in play on the slow clay court and went on to win her seventh title.

This report on the match doesn't make it sound any different from what Venus did to Hénin at Amelia Island. Venus made a ton of UEs to fall behind 6-2 4-0, and then started playing better.

BTW: I should point out that I'm quite frankly stunned that Kim won. I've always thought her RG final was a fluke and expected Venus to win something like 6-2 6-2.

I am surprised she won too. She has an arm injury and I never felt like she was truly comfortable on the clay, but God, I guess she is! She has a game for it. She should have never been uncomfortable with it! Oh, I love her so much. What a beautiful day!

Anyway, Venus can be a capricious girl. LOL! You never know what to expect with her!

If you have a little brain, you would know it's total b******t without even watching the match. But I guess thats a question mark.

Here we go again, geesh can't people just accept the fact that the best woman won today instead of trying to create drama where their is none. I think posting an article and picking a negative aspect for the title of a thread is uncalled for. If Venus had no answers for Kim it wouldn't of wen't to a third set. Kim just pulled it out, that's all.

Ain't that the truth... Funny how no such thread popped up yesterday if you get my drift :P

Actually if you will notice I am casting aspersions at ESPJEN's spin. I actually doubt that the match went that way or that Venus "had no answers" for the record. I was just reacting to tennisfun's insulting post implying that I have only half a brain when if he had read my post he would see that I am actually doubting that Venus only won the first set because of Kim's errors or that she had no answers in the last two sets.

I have seen the match and ESPN is not totally wrong. Venus had sometimes no answers and that's why she lost the match. Venus made great points of course. It's sometimes amazing how easily she can hit a winner down the line. Noone can return those shots, even not a sliding Kim. But Kim has such a fast reaction time. sometimes it's unbelievable how she can return a shot of Venus which would be a clear winner if someone else whas at the other side of the court. On clay this is a big advantage because you have a little more time to react. The Combination of sliding, a fast reaction time and big ground strokes gives Kim great potential on clay.

I also saw the match and I don't think Venus made more errors in the second and third set than she did in the first. Venus started the match with a double fault and made several other errors in that first set. But she compensated it by showing Kim all sides of the court and hitting winners all over the place. It's very hard to keep up such a high level for two sets so it was only to be expected that it would drop a bit. Kim raised her level, fought back and won.

I am watching this match on Oxyjenn and would have to see that it's not like Venus "had no answers" and it was not only Clijsters errors that gave Venus the first set. Mostly it was her strategy. Kim opened the court much more in the second set and third set with short angles and also came to net some. ESPN made it sound like Venus was only winning because of Kim's errors but Venus was playing very well and Kim was just using the wrong strategy.

I AM REALLY GLAD that Kim decided to open up the court and made Venus move laterally on red clay. Many say you should just hit up the middle but this is just too tiring since you just retrieve forever. I think it's better to move Venus around especially on clay and then maybe jam her up the middle provoking a short reply and come to the net. The whole hitting up the middle to the Williams makes it to easy for them and makes you do all the running. Although I think Serena makes more mistakes than Venus when the ball come s up the middle right at here.
