I finally bought Fiona Apple's new release Extroardinary Machine and have been listening to it constantly since I bought it.

Some of it sounds similar to When the Pawn......but her music seems a tad more mature and less angry even though a lot of her subject matter is still of the jilted girl.

But what I am really loving is the instrumental arrangements. Songs like Red Red Red and Waltz make you just get lost in the lushness of each song.

Also love the title track and Window.

Anyone else loving this CD?

It rocks , but Jon Brion's unreleased versions of the tracks are a lot better IMO , especially the one of Red Red Red that you mentionned...

Album of the year. Sounds even better live.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't prefer Brion's version. I love both Red, Red, Reds equally.

I think I heard "Window" the other day on the LSU radio station. Is it the one about a broken window or something? It was simply amazing. I don't normally like songs that much on the first listen but it blew me away.

Would just be over the moon if she upset the field and won a Grammy this year. :lick:

They are both remarkably similar. The difference is with her latest she seems to have lost a lot of that anger even though the subject matter is nearly the same.

As a Kate Bush fan, Fiona Apple is of great interest to me and only yesterday I was looking at buying some of her CDs. From what I can make out there's only been 3?

How would you describe her music? I'm interested.

Well when she first came out, she definitely had that angry young female rocker thing going. But she has many elements of jazz, pop and rock all mixed together.

Carrion for instance from her first CD is a pretty specatcular song with very Beatle's like instrumentals at the end of it.

You often get lost in her music just cause of all those wonderful instrumentals she incorporates in many of her big numbers.

She has a wonderful voice, but often stays subdued in her singing as opposed to that big cresdendo we often expect from a Mariah Carey or Kelly Clarkson.

She is a crafty song writer and her production to me is often underrated cause she doesn't really conform to any money-making techniques I guess it takes to sell millions of records these days.
