Yahoo.com. Chris Rock's Show "Everybody Hates Chris" Says Santa Doesn't Exist. A blindsided UPN received "a handful" of complaints about the Santa expose on its sitcom based loosely on comic Rock's life. There's no word on whether Rock knew his show could be a holiday spoiler.

I stopped thinking Santa was real at about 5 or 6. However, my mom still tries to keep the idea alive by always having at least one of my presents under the tree still labelled "from Santa" :)

Well, its the greatest pleasure/happyness kids derive from the idea that santa gives them presents. So I would not tell them the truth until say 5 yrs old. But after that its useless to continue that idea.

umm i believed in santa until i was like 10 i guess.

but he scares me. i've never like taken a picture on santas lap...just stood next to him uncomfortably. one time the santa at the mall had dirty knuckles so i started crying and help up the line for like an hour.

Why would anyone ruin on kids' joy? Kids today grow up so quickly, I think it's okay to have them believe in Santa until about 7 . Chris Rock is a father of 2 young kids--Shame on him for this fuck up:fiery:

Exactly, and why I disagree with marmite1.

I used to get sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited about Santa as a kid. I still remember not being able to get to sleep, and jumping out of bed at 4am. Those were the days.

I felt that between 6 or 8 was a good time to break the news, depending on how strongly the child believes.
But with my own kids, once doubt slipped in and they started seriously questioning Santa's existence, I simply told them that Santa represented the spirit of giving and to shut-up and open the gifts. :haha:

Incidentally, and I'm sure everyone knows this, but the real santa was a black man. Here's what he looked like.

Would I lie? :wavey:

Somewhere in the world, a fat man with a white beard and red clothes is reading this thread and having an existential crisis. Now how are you all going to feel, when you find out that Santa does exist, and that it's your fault he doesn't bring your kids presents any more??

well i knew when i was 5 or 6 he wasnt real however parents didnt tell me until i was 10, funny thing is 8 years later our parents were still giving us "santa sacks" with extra gifts in them haha, mainly chocolate though.

i think around 5 is a good age to tell them, or not have santa at all. any laster and the kid will probably find out for themselves.

I can remember it, but I can't recall how old I was. I know which house I was living in at the time, so I know I was 9 at the most, but probably a lot younger (I'd guess about 7). I wish I could figure out what year I was in at school, but I can't.

My parents only told me when I questioned it after finding a present that Santa was supposed to bring hidden away somewhere. I wasn't surprised to find it was all make-believe.

I have mixed feelings about lying to kids at all. It seems unavoidable in our culture, but part of me is with marmite1.

I see the Santa tradition as two things: (1) he's being good for the shops, and (2), he gives parents the chance to tell kids they don't get presents with Christmas unless they're "good" the whole year through. (And a reason like "he gives joy to the kids and families" is too trite...material joy, perhaps.)

Why does Santa give toys to christian kids, in the western located world, instead of food supply to kids in third-world countries?
