View Full Version : Ways to make sure Venus hits at least 15 unforced errors in a match

aim most of your backhands down the middle of the court to stop Venus from hitting on the run. Try to force crosscourt forehand rallies, and avoid crosscourt backhand rallies. Hit every serve to Venus's forehand on the ad side and mix up the serve placement on the deuce side. Neutralize the Venus Williams side to side speed, take away the angles she uses to hit winners, and you will 'force' Venus into hitting 'unforced' errors.

easier said than done

P.S. how about writing up one for Maria, Lindsay and Justine

definitely - you have to have great groundstrokes from both sides, you have to be very fast, and you need a consistently well placed serve with good velocity, otherwise Venus is going to dictate play.

Go right at her. be aggressive and go for your shots before she does. I don't think I've ever seen a match where someone mixed up their shots and it REALLY bothered venus. Schynder kind of did it to venus at Stanford, but I think venus was more tired than anything else in that match I think players are much more effective when they go right at her. Sprem did it at Wimbledon, and I think it's why generally speaking Lindsay's matches with her are always close because Lindsay plays that in your face attacking game.

true but in all honesty, Lindsay only leads the head to head becuase they are counting a Venus retirement or it would be even and I'd rather lose twice, once in Miami and once in some German tournament i can't even remember the name of, then to get spanked in 1 wimbledon semi-final. Wouldn't you?

by one match each. lol. and odd, how Venus leads them in the "big matches". Venus 1-0 against Sharapova in Slams; Venus 3-0 vs. Lindsay in major finals; 5-4 in Slams

Watch a few Arantxa and Venus matches ;) Venus won most of their battles, but they had several real close ones, and there were a few sets where Arantxa did a great job of frustrating Venus into loads of errors.

That is hardly the point. A match is a match, and though some are more important, we are not discussing who's wins we would rather have. The point of showing that Lindsay and Maria have head to head advantages over Venus is to show that this is how you beat her. You have to go at her and try to dictate play. Serena also has a head to head against Venus by playing the same way. Why does Kim and Justine do so poorly against Venus? Because they do not attempt to dictate play against her, they think that they can just retrieve and Venus will hit errors.

Btw, Maria beat Venus in Miami(tier 1) and Zurich(tier 1).

It is the point cause I said it in response to someone saying that Maria and Lindsay were leading the head to head. And the reason you stated for mentioning the head to head was not the reason the poster i responded to mentioned it, but your point is well taken.

Vee beat her at Wimby and won the big prize, so what's your point ?
P.S. Vogus knows why I mentioned Maria and Lindsay-- and it has absolutely nothing to do with their head to head against Venus  .

Err.. the best way to get Venus to hit 15 unforced errors is to be injury free and able to play the desired match. Venus is a power player she'll hit 30 winners to her every 15 ue's.

Stop being a follower. Start your own thread with your own brain. It is only good when you start reversable threads when people are spouting hatred.

well... hit a lot of unforced errors yourself, than she might also start playing badly ;) (remember US Open against Kim)

That's all so complicated. Just put her up against Martina Hingis in the first round of the Australian Open. You'll see 15 in the first 20 minutes.

Are you talking about the same Hingis who got scared of the power hitters and semi retired? Let's hope she makes it to even meet Venus.:tape:

This is what people were saying 5 years ago. People were doing that, but it obviously doesnt work when Venus is playing well. She'll hit 15 UE's, but about twice as many winners.

Really all you have to do is show up for the match to get 15 unforced errors, but Venus's game is geared to have a lot of unforced errors counter-balanced by a lot of winners...like a lot of other players' games.
