If Maria plays as this days or better it's posible that she will be in top 3. But Daniela & Tatiana ? Do you really think like that ? I have some other types for it. We will see in 2011 ;)

I think that Vaidisova won't be in top three ever. Maybe you're right about young Nicole but I have a feel that she will end in top 10 only.

Itís a shame that womenís sport always has to come to this. There are some really good women athletes in the world but that is always over shadowed by looks are sex. Thatís why in a previous post I stated that Serenaís endorsements are gained by her athleticism and heroism and Mariaís by looks. Most people respects a heron, more than a babe

Look! It's as simple as this. Mostly tennis is watched by guys. And we like to watch attractive young women strutting their stuff. We don't want to turn up, or turn on our TV and watch two ugly dogs playing. And most times we don't give a shit who wins, or what the score is. Hold on, except when an good lookin plyer is playing an ugly plyare, then we want the sexy attractive player to win. Well anyway, we don't care about scorelines or match points or stats, that's for gay guys and you silly girls to argue over.

Surely, woman's tennis isn't the only place to watch "attractive young women strutting their stuff." You can do that damn near anywhere, the mall, the beach, ect. Is that also the reason men watch male sports and do they also support the player or team that's the most attractive there as well? We know they don't (the straight ones anyway.) If men can appreciate highly skilled less attractive male athletes, why not highly skilled less attractive female athletes? Could it be that male athletes gain more respect (from both males and females mind you) because they actually demand it? Imagine a male athlete saying with pride "I'm ok not being good as long as i'm prettier and make more money than the other boys."

If you could point out to me malls, beaches or other public spaces packed with attractive young women who look like Sharapova or Dementieva, I would be much obliged, and would congratulate you for finding Heaven.

Yeah thereís loads of places to check out the talent. We only ever watch the likes of Elena, Maria, Serena, Jelena, Anna and co. The same for other sports, thatís how most guys get interested in sport involving women. They see somebody who is attractive and sometimes they get hooked. But deep down we donít really care about the sport. Itís just an excuse for us to eyeball fine pieces of ass.

I support a few football teams, in fact I was a football hooligan from years back. (Ah those were the days, when men were men and pansies were the name of a flower) Most men are introduced into following football (just an example) by their fathers, or father figures. Itís something men do while the women go shopping and do the housework. Youíre right itís an extremely homophobic environment. But that tradition is now being ruined because stupid women and little girls who know nothing about football (listen, no matter what they tell you they donít understand the offside rule). ThatĎs why thereĎs so much play acting in football today. The Premier League players in the UK , they think theyíre movie stars now, instead of sports stars.

ĎIf men can appreciate highly skilled less attractive male athletes, why not highly skilled less attractive female athletes?í - you asked. Weíre just sexist pigs thatís the real reason. Come on, do you believe straight guys take women sports stars seriously? And the only thing a male athlete worries about is, how big he is in the shower with his mates. And if he said "I'm ok not being good as long as Iím prettier and make more money than the other boysĒ Weíd all laugh and call him gay!

Look I havenít a clue about tennis. I only watch what I believe to be attractive players playing, I couldnít care less if they were number one, or number one hundred and one in the rankings. Iím just bluffing my way on here, cause when Iím online waiting for my porn to download.

Ups...I confused Sharapova with Dementieva in the first pic...

Maybe the WTA should also add a specific clothing-rule making them look like beach volleyballer...itīs a cruel world out there.

Then you explain to me why Serena got more endorsements than Navratinova or Graf, or even Federer who are far more successful and Heroics than Serena; and Hantuchova who is considered good looking as well doesn't get even close to Maria in the endorsement competition.

Serena doesn't get her endorsements for her athleticism and heroism only and Maria doesn't get her endorsements for her look only. Don't be naive.

WIMBLY2004 is correct, Hantuchova is arguably more attractive than Maria, yet she has far less endorsement deals - does it have something to do with success on court?

I think you'll find Maria attained the majority of her endorsement deals AFTER winning Wimbledon.

BOTH players have gained their endorsements by athletism & looks.

Because YOU don't see Maria as a Hero type, sure as hell doesn't mean others don't.

if you go out more maybe you'll find them. while Sharapova and Dementieva are pretty in their own right, i can only think of maybe 3 players who are anything overly spectacular in the looks/body department. their beauty is relative. if i saw them on the street i probably wouldn't be in awe

being attractive and great players helps both Serena and Maria ;) they're both very marketable, moreso than Graf and Nav. they both get more endorsements than Hantuchova because they're superior in both categories. maybe moreso than Roger because of his nationality, and looks. i don't think he's ugly, but he's just...funny looking. i don't mean to be mean by that :o

I am male.
I am a long time fan of woman's tennis.
How well they play is by far the most important.
Second how well I can identify with them. Such as similar background or certain character traits.
It is also nice to have some good looking ladies participating. But they dont have to be in the top ten. The tennis tour has an abundance of attractive ladies. More than enough. Again it really is not important. A real fan (male through and through)

I don't agree, I think if you saw Dementieva in the street you'd realize how beautiful she is. The way we see people on TV makes us compare people who are generally prettier than average - actors for example. Compared to each other they don't look amazing because it becomes relative. If you walk past 6 footer Elena Dementieva in the street she'll look gorgeous, I'm positive, first because she is naturally beautiful and second, because most people out there are UGLY lol!!

thanks for telling me what I would or wouldn't see/think :);)

Dementieva is beautiful...but just because she is one of the best 5 looking women on tour, it doesn't mean that she's one of the best 5 women in the world. there are a lot of beautiful women in the world, i don't think there's anything overly spectacular about the women on the wta tour :)i

then again, if i saw Ivanovic on the street, i probably would be like :hearts:

I agree with the sentiment. I've been noticing too much focus on Maria's pretty face for a couple of years now. For ex when a clip reel is shown during televised tennis event, she has approx 50% of the air time. And I think most of the adoring Maria fans would not be there if she looked like, say, ClijstersDavenportMaursemoHeninHardennePierce - in other words, had average looks.

For the Cincinnati tournament - where I live so I see the coverage and the website - they have no Sharapova, so have to use Vera Zvonereva as a next choice :tape: for young and blonde. It bites my butt to have to keep seeing her picture around here during the leadup to the event.

Anna Kournikova
Serena Williams
Martina Hingis

Hingis was normally considered "hot". I remember one of my straight roommates in college was obsessed with her. Serena, still the hottest diva on the tour.

I think the young girls need to mature. If they wanted to sell "sex", fine...but if they sell those girls its like almost illegal :p
