Some interesting points:
- If Venus wins tomorrow against Clijsters she will add 123 pts to her total, reaching a total of 4754 pts (4631+123). When Berlin's points will dropp off she'll have 4754-40=4714 pts ... that's a 455 pts lead over JCap with 4259 pts (without Berlin).
That means that even if JCap wins Berlin she probably won't have enough points to overcome Venus #1 .... explanation: Mauresmo last year got 483 pts for the title but she defeated Hingis on the way and got those big fat 100 bonus pts! JCap won't have that this year since Venus won't be playing, she is herself at #2 which denies her another 75 pts had she beat the #2 in the world .... the big bonus pts will come from Clijsters (66), Hingis (55) and Serena (50) ... the odds for JCap to defeat all of them are slim .... the odds for Venus to stay #1 til Wimbledon look good! :)
- Clijsters is back on shape and successfully defended her #3 ranking with a finals appearance in Hamburg (and she can still add if she wins!). Having nothing to defend in Berlin and with her recent results on clay, she's got a solid claim on that #3 ranking for a while if Serena and Hingis don't find their form quickly!
-Hingis might even fall another spot down to #5 if she doesn't do better than Serena ... she will have to reach the finals to get back to the #3 spot and hope that Clijsters will lose early in the tournament! Big task!
-Serena hopefully will get those precious tips from big sis and built on the fact she's got nothing to defend til RG to climb the rankings and (why not?) become #3 seed for the french! She will have to win Berlin though!
-We'll finally have a new name in the top10 this year (even if it's temporary!). I was the 1st to think that this top10 was too strong to be shaken up!
Mauresmo will fall out the top10 ... that's almost certain! She's got too many pts to get back to the #10 and unfortunately for her, her road might stop as soon as the QF in Berlin (Serena is on her half-section)! A worse result could even make her fall to the #12 place, behind Farina elia, only 50 pts behind!
The sad is that her nightmare might stop only at the french since she has also RU pts to defend in Rome, where she will have to contend with the whole top10! C'mon Amelie .... you have to wake up now ... and by now I mean YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great analysis joao:) I hope Amelie does find her form just not here because i want serena at #3 1 step closer to the sisters being #'s 1 and 2. Amelie to the semi's of the French would be good.

And even in Rome Kim hasn't got a lot of points to defend. If she keeps playing like this week, she might join Jennifer for a fight on the #2 spot. Let's hope so!

You missed out someone real important there Rhythmboy... ;)
Serena and Monica are less than 200 points behind Kim, and after RG, she'll be ahead of Kim in terms of safe points, so I think Serena, Jennifer, Monica and Kim can have a raffle for the number 2 spot... :D
I don't think there has been any point in time where the race for the number 2 spot has been so close, with so many contenders... :bounce:
