During the summer, in one of the tournaments in California I think, her father beat her and she was sent to the hospital. The police then arrested her father for child abuse. Her father has since been banned from WTA tour. There're other threads with more detail you can find with a search.

Linetskaya was having a good year until Rome, where she made the quarters.
After that, she had trouble winning a match.

Well her personnal problems certainly didn't help. But I saw her practice in Toronto, and i must say she lost some pounds, she looked a lot mre fit than at RG. But she kinda lacked the spark that she had. She'll learn to carry her shots without her weight and she will be ok!

Can "new" mean a veteran due for a breakthrough? If so, keep an eye on, say, Dinara Safina, who suddenly is a top 20 player or Anna-Lena Groenefeld. Or what about Evgernia:p Linetskaya , now that some of her personal issues seem to be in the past? Otherwise, I like Safarova, though she is "already" almost 19. And you rarely go wrong picking the top juniors, in this case, Viktoria Azarenka and Agnes Savay.

I know that she had the 'father-problem' last year, it looks like she couldn't find her form back.

She's 0-3 so far this year

Lost to Safina in Gold Coast, to A.Bondarienko in Hobart (3 sets) and to Kirilenko in Melbourne

and she's currently #141 in the ranks.

Well since the news about her abusive father, she really didn't perform well and didn't seem to enjoy playing. Maybe she is taking a break to find her loe or the game back and get back stronger. At least I hope so. She was working so hard (maybe to hard)

according to a player i spoke with, Linetskaya had some problems with wild teen behavior, drinking, boyfriends. Her father was trying to keep her under control but it only led to fighting and more problems. Then she ended up with a coach who has been accused of sexual harassment. Basically the wheels seem to have come off her career.
