- tell the whole world that you got pregnant at 15

I imagine that as a 16 year old kid she's being told what to say and do by seriously misguided people surrounding her. If this all true I'm sure she'll look back on all this in a few years and be extremely angry with those who are supposed to be guiding and helping her.

From the marketing angle she should've used the beef/cough sirup excuse, get suspended and try to come back.

I'd fire my IMG agent, and avoid Nick Boliterri.

Ok- seriously? I'd take the fine, and return in two years. People have short memories, and Larry Scott is a total suck up. And quite frankly they really don't care how you go about winning matches. Show up to 27 events and do all the PR, and smile, act cute, and charm reporters, use your young age as an excuse for that little faux pas back in 2005.

Simple

They can easily tell if the pregnant excuse is true or not. If its not then it'll be worse for her, so she should just admit she doped and take the ban. Although no one who tests positive ever admits it, they all have their excuses.

the pregnancy choice in the poll if not true would be preferring sesil to lie. It has not yet been proven to have happened.

I am really wondering why the use of a pregnancy defence if it is really easy to find out (with that urine sample) if she was pregnant or not.

Did her advisers believe that the judges would feel sorry for Sesil and let her keep playing? Or won’t even bother to check even if doping is on the table?

This is so stupid, and now she won’t be marketable anymore, no big endorsement deals .... so she really was pregnant. Otherwise I can’t explain this disaster.

Hey, this opens another can of worms. If she was really pregnant; isn't sex with a minor against the law? The male partner's name would have to be produced.

No, I don't think being a pregnant 15 year old is worse than being a "doper". I'm just wondering what sort of legal advisor is giving her this. Her IMG agent? friends? parents? friends of parents?

that's what I said in my post above. I think that in some countries this age is below 16, but if she is in the States, she'll definitely get questionned. Of course, she doesn't ahve to reveal a name and police wouldn't be able to force her. Usually pressure from parents helps in this kind of situations...

Because in my humble opinion having a baby is the most beautiful thing in the world ... And there are very few girls on the WTA tour who have a baby. ;)

And contrary to many others here , I don't see any problem in having a baby at 16 or 17 if it's what you deeply want.

I say deny, deny, deny till her face turns blue. It's always better to be the victim rather then some doping pregnant 15 yr old. Or she could just blame her entourage, which is prob at fault anyway. I doubt she woke up one day and decide "Hey I need to do some doping".

We're sort of lamenting the fate of Sesil here. Being 15 yrs old, she obviously isn't the one in charge of her career. This case shows everyone exactly what's wrong with the WTA, and tennis in general now. It's all about money, hype, huge investments on young players, keeping up with the pack, and business.

I'm sure the WTA will either deny this ever happened or say it's a fluke. In a way it's the WTA that encourages this type of thing.

It's certainly not worse. However, it's a rather stupid thing to do, especially if one's a professional athlete.

If she really was pregnant, I don't see why she should have hidden it as it's realy not that big a deal. Hey, shit happens.

But if she's only using it as a defence for getting caught red-handed... it would be a bit too low of an excuse for my liking.

It is the most wonderful thing if you experience it at the right age - if you are fully ready to take care of and raise a child mentally and emotionally. At 15 or 16, one is still a child herself.

And contrary to many others here , I don't see any problem in having a baby at 16 or 17 if it's what you deeply want.

I don't think any 16 or 17 year old would want to have a child if they knew the deep responsibility and hard work that goes into raising a child.

I remember being 15 and I can bet that as mature as I was for a 15 year old, I wasnt at all ready then to have a child both mentally and emotionally. At 22, I still doubt that I am.

tenn_ace, being 15 and pregnant is not at all unusual. You need to check the school district where ever you are. There's a special school here in SW Florida for pregnant and unwed teens. Some folk find it odd or wrong, but life is not really over for these girls. ---they need to continue their education.

Getting pregnant at 15 is dumb. Doping is dumb. But doping is also cheating in her chosen career. I'd rather admit to being pregnant.

The average age for losing your virginity is something like 13 in the U.K., she's hardly the only under-16 having sex, I don't think it's that big a deal. Obviously it is if your age of consent is ridiculously high like 18 but most European countries have it set at 14 or 16.

infiniti, I probably did miss the boat, but when I was at high school, being pregnant at 17 was like the end of the world.

I feel sorry for those girls because most of them are either misguided or victims of rape and they do need to talk about it openly to cope with it. But here we have a different case. Sesil admitted that she got pregnant at 15 just to fend off the doping charges.

Not really. They can tell if Sesil's belief of herself being pregnant at that moment in time is true or not. She could have been mistaken at the time. It doesn't mean she wasn't pregnant at all.

Oh it was for me too (I graduated out of highschool at 17 thankfully);) Anyway, I attended a Catholic highschool in the Caribbean and I remember a nun humiliating this senior who was pregnant. She tried to hold on until graduation which was like 2 weeks to go, but the rumors were endless. That nun Sister Claire told the girl that mothers had no business being amongst children infront of the whole class :o
The kids in the US should count their blessings-- pregnant teens don't get the opportunity to continue their education unless they come from wealthy families

You can't fluke a pregnancy. The dope lab is not run by idiots(although it may seem so at times...).
She has no choice but to admit it.Tests don't lie.She wasn't pregnant, and her managers are morons. They could have at least said that she was on some heavy duty high protien diet, and over-the-top training regime. It would sound far-fetched,but not so transparent as the pregnancy that didn't happen.

Tell the truth, either way. There's nothing inherently wrong with being pregnant at 15. It's inadvisable, 99% of the time, but there's nothing wrong with it. There's nothing inherently wrong with using performance enhancing drugs, as far as that goes. However, it's against the rules of tennis. (If she were a professional body-builder, or a lumberjack, this wouldn't be a problem.) If she broke the rules, she should 'fess up, take the punishment, and spend the time training.

I'm a mom and trust me 15yo pregnant is a big deal. But obviously her handlers felt that admittting/claiming she was pregnant is the lesser of two evils. I mean on the men's side Puerta came up with his wife was taking a medicine which contained the banned substance and he drank from the same glass. Since the drinking from the same glass excuse had already been used this was the only one they could use.

"I should never have borrowed Rafael from ALG to coach me". :o

And a few words from Bobby Vinton, circa 1960:

Come back when you grow up, girl
You're still livin' in a paper-doll world
Livin' ain't easy, lovin's twice as tough
So come back, baby, when you grow up

You look real good like a woman now
Your mind hasn't gotten the message somehow
So if you can't take it 'n' the goin' gets rough
Come back, baby, when you grow up

I want you girl but your wide-eyed innocence
Has really messed up my mind, yeah-eah-eah
I'd rather you get your very first heartbreak
Somewhere else along the line

Come back when you grow up, girl
You're still livin' in a paper-doll world
Some day be a woman ready to love
Come back, baby, when you grow up

Come back when you grow up, girl
You've still got a lotta time left in the world
You'll some day be a woman ready to love
Come back, baby, when you grow up
