Q vs Q
Elena Likhovtseva vs (13) Arantxa Sanchez Vicario

(9)Meghann Shaughnessy vs Tina Pisnik
Conchita Martinez vs Eleni Danilidou
Nathalie Dechy vs Janette Husarova
(5) Justine Henin vs bye

(7) Amelie Mauresmo vs bye
Lilia Osterloh vs Q
Anca Barna vs Rita Grande
Katarina Srebotnik vs (10)Silvia Farina Elia

(16) Tamarine Tanasugarn vs Iva Majoli
Tatiana Panova vs Magdalena Maleeva
Barbara Schett vs Francesca Schiavone
(4) Serena Williams vs bye

(6) Jelena Dokic vs bye
Mary Pierce vs Q
Magui Serna vs bye
Paola Suarez vs (11) Daniela Hantuchova

(15)Amanda Coetzer vs Daja Bedanova
Anne Kremer vs Cristina Torres Valerio
Anna Smashnova vs Angeles Montolio
(2)Kim Clijsters vs Bye

First Quarter:
(1) Jennifer Capriata vs bye
Melien Tu vs Adriana Serra Zanetti
Q vs Q
Gala Leon Garcia vs (14) Iroda Tulyaganova

Jen has ANOTHER cake walk draw. No one here could potentially threaten her, unless Serra Vanetti can pull a Schnyder. Jen breeezes into the quarters.

Second Quarter:
(12) Elena Dementieva vs Barbara Rittner
Q vs Marlene Weingartner
Anastasia Myskina vs Martina Sucha
(8) Sandrine Testud vs Bye

Much more competition here. Dementieva and Testud should battle it out in the orund of 16, unless the Germans decide it's time for a revolution. Sandrine into quarters after DEfeating Dementieva.

Third Quarter:
(3) Martina Hingis vs bye
Rossana Neffa-DeLos vs Martina Muller
Q vs Q
Elena Likhovtseva vs (13) Arantxa Sanchez Vicario

Martina should make it into the quarters easily, but Arantxa might have something to say about it. If Hingis does play Arantxa she SHOULD win in two sets.

Fourth Quarter:
(9)Meghann Shaughnessy vs Tina Pisnik
Conchita Martinez vs Eleni Danilidou
Nathalie Dechy vs Janette Husarova
(5) Justine Henin vs bye

No one but Conchita could trouble Justine here, if Conchita can even make it to Justine. Justine into quarters.

Fifth Quarter:
(7) Amelie Mauresmo vs bye
Lilia Osterloh vs Q
Anca Barna vs Rita Grande
Katarina Srebotnik vs (10)Silvia Farina Elia

Amelie has played terribly all clay season. She's defending champ here isn't she, or is that Jelena? If Amelie makes it past BYe, who always gives her a run for her money, should make it to the round of 16. Silvia is doing great nowadays, and should defeat Amelie and go into the quarters.

Sixth Quarter:
(16) Tamarine Tanasugarn vs Iva Majoli
Tatiana Panova vs Magdalena Maleeva
Barbara Schett vs Francesca Schiavone
(4) Serena Williams vs bye

Toguh quarter. Serena is playing only so-so(IMHO) on clay, lost to Patty Schynder, who lost to Iva, who's in Serena's quarter.:p
Schett could pose Serena problems, btu Serena should go into the quarters if Iva decides to ruin her winning streak.

Seventh Quarter:
(6) Jelena Dokic vs bye
Mary Pierce vs Q
Magui Serna vs bye
Paola Suarez vs (11) Daniela Hantuchova

Dokic(if she's better) should beat Pierce. Paola could beat Daniela, but I dont think so. Dani and Jelly should play and it will all depend on it Jelena's healthy. If she is, then she'll win.(maybe) If she's not, Dani for sure.

Eighth Quarter:
(15)Amanda Coetzer vs Daja Bedanova
Anne Kremer vs Cristina Torres Valerio
Anna Smashnova vs Angeles Montolio
(2)Kim Clijsters vs Bye

Lots of good clay courters here. Kim should, and most likely will make it to the quarters, Smashnova could give her a scare, and Coetzer is always a threat on clay.

QUARTER FINAL Predictions:

Jennifer vs. Sandrine(ooooh my, a doozy)

Martina vs. Justine(YES! It's about goddamn time!)

Silvia vs. Serena

Dokic/Hantuchova vs. Kim

Any thoughts anyone?

Will Jelena still play this?

Ryan

I have no idea. But look at what she's already done to her body, she'd show up to a tournament with crutches and a bodycast.

Arantxa's #1 Fan: If Arantxa manages to beat Martina(hopefully not) I'll cheer for her all the way to the title.(not if she beats Martina in the Hamburg dubs final though);)

Fifth Quarter:
(7) Amelie Mauresmo vs bye
Lilia Osterloh vs Q
Anca Barna vs Rita Grande
Katarina Srebotnik vs (10)Silvia Farina Elia

lol, this is the ugliest section of a draw, ever.
amelie: slumping
rita: slumping
lilia: slumping
silvia: i expected more from her last time she played

the best player in this section might be anca barna, who has been amazing since the clay season started.

Eighth Quarter:
(15)Amanda Coetzer vs Daja Bedanova
Anne Kremer vs Cristina Torres Valerio
Anna Smashnova vs Angeles Montolio
(2)Kim Clijsters vs Bye

whew, another putrid section. since porto, montolio has been looking ugly. and bedanova? ooo, when did she last win a good match? coetzer should win her first round, but could get caught up w/ kremer (i would have completely gone w/ kremer, but after her loss last week, im not so sure - she's way tired). smashnova should also win. depending on clijsters's match tomarrow, i cant say. as much as id like smashy to win, she doesn't really like clay, so kim should ease her way into the quarters (unless kremer is rested, in which case, she'll have some trouble).

Sixth Quarter:
(16) Tamarine Tanasugarn vs Iva Majoli
Tatiana Panova vs Magdalena Maleeva
Barbara Schett vs Francesca Schiavone
(4) Serena Williams vs bye

contary to #4 this is a very good section. subtracting schiavone and tamarine (:o)from the section and all of these players have been playing well. serena should meet iva, an excellent clay courter w/ 1 clay title (hopefully 2 :) ) already this year. that's a good one. still, id go w/ serena.

Predictions:
(8) Sandrine Testud def. (1) Jennifer Capriati (hopefully :) )
(3) Martina Hingis def. (5) Justine Henin
(4) Serena Williams def. Anca Barna/(10) Silvia Farina-Elia
Anne Kremer def. Paola Suarez (ok, maybe this is a stretch ;) )

(3) Martina Hingis def. (8) Sandrine Testud
(4) Serena Williams def. Anne Kremer

(4) Serena Williams def. (3) Martina Hingis :)

Nifty I agree with everything but the Serena part.;) Kim will make the QF's if she plays.

JCap has to be pleased with her draw ... the only person who defeated her this year so far is on the other half of the draw (Serena... Schnyder is not playing berlin), and the "#1-killer" Testud will have to battle with Myskina and Dementieva before she can take on her! JCap has a safe ticket to the QF at least (Iroda is just too bad on clay to represent any kind of threat!) ...
Hingis will have it harder than JCap ... although she will benefit also from the fact that Serena and Majoli are on the other half. Her first test will be against ASV who defeated her last year at Amelia Island. But Hingis has a stunning winning record against ASV and ASV hasn't been hot this year on clay so far. Hingis should get easily to the QF where she will meet Henin if the seeds hold ... and that's a toss-up. They haven't met since 2000, a time when Henin was as known as was Prusova this year at Bol!

Serena has to be the favourite in her quarter! Mauresmo unfortunately has done nothing on clay worthy to talk about...she's safe til the Qf though! The big names of this quarter (Majoli, Serena, Schett) will kill each other before they'll have a chance to meet her! Majoli is here but she might be tired after 2 titles back-to-back (I hope she will win tomorrow against Svensson) ... Schett is having some kind of resurection but nothing that might worry Serena seriously!

The last QF is the open one IMO. Dokic should make another quick work of Pierce if she's recovered from her recurrent or new injuries. Comes next Hantuchova who was stopped in Hamburg only by Hingis ...Dokic will have to work hard I think. Clijsters OTOH should come on top of her half-section, although Smashnova or Montolio might give her something to work on. And bc this will be Clijsters' 1st-match, an upset is possible right away.

So in summary. Here are my QF:

JCap vs Myskina
Hingis vs Henin
Serena vs Mauresmo
Clijsters vs Hantuchova

Hey Ryan.............ummm, by laws of nature, I think there can only be 4 quarters, 8 quarters is just impossible............hehehehehe................ju st joking by the way.

if its a pulled hamstring Dokic would be mad to play here but then again she is. It can take upto around 2-3 weeks to get right, luckily its not torn as that is a real killer.

I don't think it is fair to say Amelie is slumping.

She lost to Kremer (who defeat dokic three times this year and eventually went to semifinal in that event before losing to Venus) on her first match on clay

Then she lost to patty in Charleston, who then we all know what happen.

I mean she then beat both Argentines in straight sets in fed cup.

I cannot see Silvia Farina trouble her here. I can even see Amelie give Serena a run for her money

Iroda too bad on clay? She won back to back titles on clay last year, its whats keeping her in the top 20.

And in Miami, Iroda pushed jen to 3 tight sets.

I would go for a hingis - williams fan
although I would love to see Jen take it all.(I just don`t see it happen)

Clay is anna `s best surface ,but kim isn`t bad either(final in RG)
I think she is can`t hurt her ,because kim is a much more stable player than let`s say henin.

Ps: I am living in hertselya

Another interesting draw.

(1) Jennifer Capriati vs bye
Melien Tu vs Adriana Serra Zanetti
Q vs Q
Gala Leon Garcia vs (14) Iroda Tulyaganova

Shouldn't be any problems to Jennifer here. If Iroda decides to play well she might be a dark horse, but seeing as she's played like shit all season there's no reason to suppose she'll stop here.

(12) Elena Dementieva vs Barbara Rittner
Q vs Marlene Weingartner
Anastasia Myskina vs Martina Sucha
(8) Sandrine Testud vs Bye

Look out for Myskina here. She bagelled Dokic, who was playing very well, last week and has been surprisingly consistent this year. If Sandrine's at all off, Myskina will take it. (Don't get me started on Elena. The way she's playing now, Rittner will probably win  .)

(3) Martina Hingis vs bye
Rossana Neffa-DeLos vs Martina Muller
Q vs Q
Elena Likhovtseva vs (13) Arantxa Sanchez Vicario

Cake-walk for Hingis. Depending on who the Qs are, ASV should make it to round 3 as well.

(9)Meghann Shaughnessy vs Tina Pisnik
Conchita Martinez vs Eleni Danilidou
Nathalie Dechy vs Janette Husarova
(5) Justine Henin vs bye

Henin should definitely make it, unless Husarova or Dechy pull all the stops out. Nightmare draw for Meghann, though - she certainly won't be in round 3.

(7) Amelie Mauresmo vs bye
Lilia Osterloh vs Q
Anca Barna vs Rita Grande
Katarina Srebotnik vs (10)Silvia Farina Elia

It all depends how well Amelie's playing. If it's AI/Charleston level, she'll lose to Osterloh or the qualifier (probably the qualifier). If she plays at the level she's capable of, she's won the tournament already. She *should* have no trouble til the QFs, although Anca Barna's been on fire this clay season.

(16) Tamarine Tanasugarn vs Iva Majoli
Tatiana Panova vs Magdalena Maleeva
Barbara Schett vs Francesca Schiavone
(4) Serena Williams vs bye

Big upset potential. Tammy T can't play on clay full stop, and although Iva might be tired, she should take it. Even if she doesn't, Tatiana and Maggie lurk. As for Serena, she's better than both Schett and Schiavone, but not THAT much better on this surface. Bizarrely, the two seeds in this section are the least comfortable on the surface. I still expect Serena to make it to the QFs, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if she lost to just about anyone in this section.

(6) Jelena Dokic vs bye
Mary Pierce vs Q
Magui Serna vs bye
Paola Suarez vs (11) Daniela Hantuchova

Dokic's health being the question once again. Will the girl ever learn what the words 'week off' mean? If she's healthy, she should get to the QFs, but she's not, and I accordingly pick either Pierce, Suarez or Hantuchova.

(15)Amanda Coetzer vs Daja Bedanova
Anne Kremer vs Cristina Torres Valerio
Anna Smashnova vs Angeles Montolio
(2)Kim Clijsters vs Bye

Only Smashnova can pose a threat to Clijsters here, and I doubt she will.

So, QFs:

Capriati v Myskina/Testud
Hingis v Henin (about time too)
Mauresmo/anyone v Williams/Majoli/Schiavone/Panova
Pierce/Suarez/Hantuchova v Clijsters

And from there it just gets too complicated. Hingis v Henin - who knows? If Henin wins, I'd pick her to take the tournament. If Hingis wins - well, she HAS to beat Capriati at least. The third quarter is too unpredictable. Clijsters should be in the semis, on probably final - but how tired is she? And how's her arm?

Kart

Amelie is defending champion at this tounament, beating Capriati in the final last year I think.

I haven't seen her play in ages, but I think she'll definitely make the QF and frankly a win over Serena is not out of reach if she plays well.

SERENA NEVER GOES OUT IN A TOURN BEFORE THE 1/4. I PUT MONEY ON HER TO REACH ATLEAST THE 1/4 OF A TOURN.:D :D
