WOW!! She is such a real person and she has really began to open up over the years. I ever began getting a little misty when she was crying. I loved that speech. Venus is a new person, and I think that Yetunde's death helped her to grow up and learn more about who she is and what she is about. Bravo Venus!! Keep living your life the way you want to.

Wow, that really was
a great speech!

And yeah, Venus does put on the tough front
but it's usually people like that that are the
most sensative underneath it all.

Made me get a bit
teary-eyed as well.

Even with that, I suspect UNC will probably win the Nat'l title again. We all know MSU will fizz whenever they face real competition. One of the cats on the team will get in trouble or something.

 I think you're thinking of MICHIGAN not MSU. We don't have brothers straight off the street at our school. UNC is going to get their pussy pounded in the ACC, they'll be lucky to even make the tournament.

I know!! She and her sister are the reason I ever picked up a racquet. This speech was great and it showed the public that Venus isn't all business and isn't stonecold all the time. She is such a strong woman who went through more than she was willing to share with us. Venus was obviously devasted after Yetunde's death, and all those losses seemed to really bring her down and hurt her. I guess through the help of her sisters and Orcene, she has come through it all, only to rise above the rest.

Serena better watch out. If Venus has decided to go down swinging, then we're in for something. I noticed that she did not fold to Serena during the two tight sets that they played this year. The second set at Miami and the first set in the Open. The old Venus would not pump it up against lil sister. I don't quite think she is there yet, but she is moving in the right direction. She also stayed in the tiebreaks in the QF, SF, F of Wimbledon winning them all, then folded in the tiebreak against Kim! So that was a blimp in a effort to keep moving forward and staying focused througout.
Bring it on, Vee in 2006.

Why only Serena? Will she be the only other person on tour contending for slams?

Why only Serena? Will she be the only other person on tour contending for slams?Nope, but she is the best example (and used to be the only example) of a top player Venus backed down from. Over the years, Venus rarely has to gotten beaten in straight sets against any of the top players. But she would just not play as tough against Serena even when Capriati, Hingis, and Kim could take a set off of Serena--not Venus. Perhaps she knew Serena wasn't going to quit, perhaps she didn't mind as much losing to Serena, or perhaps as she said she just didn't have as much fight/heart. I still don't quite think she is there when playing Serena, because she let Serena back into that first set of the U.S. Open and there is no way that Serena was really in much shape to challenge Venus, but there we were in a first set tie break.
We will see, but the words are right.

Ok nevermind.Sorry, it's not the answer you wanted, but for the record, I like to see Serena do well as well. I always wanted them to dominate together. But Serena moved ahead and Venus stood still. Perhaps now she is ready to start moving forward and staking claim on grand slam titles again.
