The season of Mary Pierce starts at the end of January. The French player doesn't participate in any preparation tournaments before the Australian Open.
She said: I really want to be with my family and I want to stay home as much as I can.
The world number five is training the next four weeks in Paris, and then she will fly to Melbourne, to get used to the Rebound Ace, where she won the title in 1995.
That's news about Mary Pierce that has been confirmed by Belgian teletext.

could be a good or a bad move. i think it's sensible because she played a lot last year, she's not prone to early upsets, and in reality is more likely to get injured playing a lead up.

I think she really wants to stay at home. Good luck Mary! :wavey:

I think it's a good idea. A rested Mary is very deadly. She proved it at the US Open and WTA Champs. She didn't play any tournaments a couple of weeks before each of these abd made the final of both.

It seems like a smart idea now that she is a high seed and theoretically shouldnt have to tough an opponent in the first 2 or 3 rounds so that she can really play herself into the tournament and indeed the 2006 season.

Mary wouldn't want to leave it too late, by the time She goes thru Her routine the Aussie Open will be half over

I think in the past she's done well at the AO without tune-ups. I could see her getting to the quarters.

Look at her schedule of 2005 she mostly played just the biggest tournaments, so this news is not a surprise...

She's not a teenager. Resting is crucial. Good move :yeah:

If she's starting at the end of January she'll MISS the Aussie Open, which starts on 16 January
