World Ranking - 634
Next Tournament - $25,000 Charlottesville, USA
May 4th, 2002, 03:27 PM
For sure I will.
I've been supporting her fully since she turned pro June last year.
If you looked at the commitments I've posted carefully, you would have noticed that she's also commited for the $25K event in Shanghai the same week at Charlottesville. I'll know next week to which tourney she decided to play.
BTW, what do you know of her?
I know that she was a Top 10 player in the NCAA, and was also a pretty good player before she went to attend College at the States.

Well, anyway gd luck Khoo Chin Bee and I heard that Jaime Wong might turn pro soon... hoepfully, Jaime's own dremas will be realized.....
Jun 13th, 2002, 10:56 AM
:D good luck to Jamie then..:)
Jun 13th, 2002, 02:31 PM
Thanks zut for the news regarding Jaime. :wavey:
She has just one year left of College, so she'll be graduating in May 2003. Looking forward to it. I just wish she'd play some tourneys during the Summer break like most College players do. :(

Well Chin Bee is currently playing in the local Sanex Open !! :D
She's in the semis and will meet one of Malaysia's up and coming stars (i think) Liaw Chen Yee !! :D
Jul 6th, 2002, 04:34 PM
Thanks Aaron for the news! :D
Go Chin-Bee! She must have outclassed all her opponents so far. ;)
Do you know who the other SF is between?
Also, is this tournament prestigious locally? Any prizemoney?
Jul 7th, 2002, 09:47 AM
Chin Bee is so far a class above the others.. she dumped Chen Yee in straight sets 6-2, 6-2
Tan Lyn Yin will be her opponent in the final. She's the national number 2 ! But I still think Chin Bee would win easily...
In Juniors... we have a little Williams sisters thing going on ;) They're obviously sisters and their name is Nurfarhana and Nurzafira Taufik !! They mowed down the competitoin in juniors so far..!! :D They're gonna meet in the final :D
Unfortunately, they didn't say anything about prize money :(
Jul 7th, 2002, 01:43 PM
Well done Chin-Bee! :D
Here's some info on Tan Lynn-Yin
Jul 8th, 2002, 11:07 AM
Chin Bee won !! :D She took out Lynn-Yin in straight sets, either 6-3, 6-2 or 6-2, 6-0. The local papers gave different results..
Nurzafira won easily 6-2, 6-1.. they went on and claim the doubles title !! :D
Jul 8th, 2002, 11:08 AM
her ranking is down to 581
Jul 8th, 2002, 04:51 PM
Well done Chin-Bee! :D
Let's hope she brings her form to the pro tourneys now. ;)
I wish she had played some tourneys between her last one and the next one, as she had quite a bit to defend. She seemed quite close to breaking the Top 500 too. :(
I also wish she had decided to play in Korea instead of China.
Jul 9th, 2002, 10:12 AM
I was wondering the same thing.. :(
Hope she makes her decision worthwhle with a great run :D
Oh yeah, on juniors... I just found out that Norzafira is ranked 728 in junior tour :D.. there's another Junior, her name is Lindsay Woon and she's ranked 854..:D

This week at Tongliao, she won her 1st match against Yang Shu-Jing 6-4 6-4, and will play another talented junior, Yue Qing in the 2nd rd. :)

She won her 2nd rd 6-0 7-5, but she lost in the QF to 7th seed Dong Yan-Hua 5-7 2-6.
In the doubles, she won 1st rd 6-2 6-4, but Dong and Yue 4-6 5-7 in the QF. Ironically, they were the same players she faced in the 2nd and QF of singles.
Anyway, she'll be playing in Nonthaburi, Thailand this week. Hopefully a better showing. :D

Poor Chin-Bee.
More bad news, she didn't enter the 4 week Japanese circuit. :(
It would have helped her ranking heaps if she played. :fiery:

Aug 27th, 2002, 10:52 AM
The Malaysian National Hardcourts Tennis Championships will be held on the 29th of Aug. till 1st of Sep.
Sep 1st, 2002, 11:17 AM
Chin Bee's not playing at the National Hardcourt Championships! :(
In her absence, hot prospect Liaw Chen Yee dominated the place.
She's in the final after beating doubles partner Toi Sieu Ee easily!
She also won the doubles title!
Sep 1st, 2002, 05:35 PM
It would have been good for Chin-Bee to play there to stay match tough. :(
Anyway, she'll be participating in the 2 Indian $10K events at Mysore and Hyderabad starting on 9 September. :D
What a pity Malaysia won't be sending a team to the Asian Games. How can you become a "medal contender" if you don't get a chance to participate against the "meda" contenders"?
Sep 2nd, 2002, 07:36 AM
sieu ee is just form 2..kinda know her..ermm..she's jien(from disney buzz) sister by the way!!!
Sep 2nd, 2002, 10:14 AM
danker, they don't really have a good program for tennis right now. I don't think many people, journalist or officials know about Chin Bee and her challenger results. They go by the SEA games most of the time and Chin Bee can't really challenge them right now.
Sep 2nd, 2002, 10:16 AM
Sieu Ee has bright future then! :bounce: (Jien's sis :D)
and by the way, Chen Yee double-bageled Cheong A Mee to win the title!
Sep 3rd, 2002, 07:58 AM
yeahh suprisingly!! A mee is not bad!! i lost to chen yee before in a tournament..she's a consistent player..one of the best national junior in Malaysia!
yeahh the selangor team is pretty strong with adam,jonathan..
KL team they have dannio and his bro jannio!
Sep 3rd, 2002, 12:54 PM
:D I agree, Chen Yee is one of the best. You're not bad either!!! :bounce:
yeah, I think Selangor will win the girls title, all of them and Kl is quite strong with Dannio and Jannio.
:o at first I thought Jannio was a typo in the local newspapers!!
Sep 7th, 2002, 10:02 AM
Selangor won the team event :)
Chen Yee and A Mee clinched the winning point in doubles. BTW, Chen Yee double-bageled another girl again :o
Sep 12th, 2002, 04:40 AM
yeahh..expected them to win!!
but so sad for the selangor boys team!!
my friends are all pretty upset over their lost!!
they are expected to win and maybe meet negri or penang in the finals !!
but at last unknow johore won the gold medal!!
Sep 12th, 2002, 12:01 PM
yeah, I was shocked as well. :(
anyway, Chin Bee lost to a Russian girl in the second round of the 10k challanger event in Mysore! :(
Sep 14th, 2002, 05:02 PM
Sep 15th, 2002, 12:53 PM

It is out of topic but how come Chan Chin-Wei is there. She was at the qualifyings of Pattaya, which is the same week as the Manila 1  .
Here is the WTA rules book :
g. Playing Two Singles Tournaments in One Week
A player is not allowed to compete in singles in two (2) Tournaments held in one week and will be withdrawn from the second Tournament by the appropriate entry authority (i.e., a player may not play the Qualifying of a Tour Tournament, lose, and then play the Main Draw of an ITF Women’s Circuit Tournament in the same week). If a player does play two (2) singles Tournaments in one (1) week, upon the first occurrence the player will receive the lesser of the Ranking Points earned from the two (2) Tournaments. Upon the second and subsequent occurrences, the player will not be awarded any Ranking Points and she will be subject to a fine.
There is therefore no interest for her to do so  .
Nov 6th, 2002, 01:39 PM
I don't know. Maybe she'll withdraw.

Chin Bee eyes first pro title after string of good results
By NIUH JIT ENG
PETALING JAYA: A string of encouraging results on the ITF circuit over the past three months have raised the hope of national number one women’s tennis player Khoo Chin Bee to win her first professional singles title next year.
Despite making a slow start to the year, the 25-year-old Chin Bee got her act together to reach five singles semi-finals since August and she won one doubles title along the way.
“I guess I was in a transition period from playing college tennis to professional tennis at the beginning of the year,” said Chin Bee, an all-American college player who graduated from the University of Arkansas last year.
“I also had to get used to the training programme from NSC (National Sports Council), the travelling and overcome my lack of match fitness.
“But I’m playing a lot more now and getting better and I want to win my first singles title outside of Malaysia next year ? that’s my aim.”
Chin Bee anchored Malaysia to win promotion to Group One of the Federation Cup in March and then took a break to get married in July.
She returned to the circuit a month later and made the doubles final in a satellite tournament in Thailand. She went one better in Hyderabad in September, winning the doubles title, partnering Thailand’s Wilawan Choptang. In both the tournaments, she reached the singles semi-final.
She followed up with semi-final appearances in the singles and mixed doubles of the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan in October before two more last four outings in both the singles and doubles in two competitions in the Philippines this month.
Chin Bee has competed in 14 tournaments thus far this year and she said that she needed to compete in at least 20 meets next year to improve on her rankings.
“A player’s ranking is determined by the points collected from their best 17 tournaments in a year. Depending on the funds available, I hope to take part in at least 20 tournaments next year,” said Chin Bee.
She will leave for India next Thursday to compete in a US$25,000 challenger event in Mumbai before finishing the season with another challenger tournament in Nonthaburi, Thailand, on Dec 2.
Playing in the WTA circuit is what Chin Bee hopes to achieve eventually.
“My rankings now is around 530 but if I can reach the top 400, I can start playing in the qualifying of tier-five (US$110,000) WTA events around Asia. And if I reach the top 300, I can begin competing in the US and Europe,” said Chin Bee, who started the year among the top 800.
“But first I have to start winning the bigger (ITF) tournaments, the Challenger events, which I hope to play more in next year.”
CHIN BEE...anchored Malaysia to win promotion to Group One of the Federation Cup in March.
Nov 25th, 2002, 02:40 PM
Bad news, Chin Bee 'apparently' lost to Suchanan 0-6, 0-6.
I hope it's not true.
Nov 25th, 2002, 04:09 PM
Thanks for the article Aaron!!! :D
Very encouraging words coming from Chin-Bee. I'm glad she believes in herself, because that's extremely important.
Chin-Bee must've had an "off" day today.
Let's hope she can do better in $25K Thai qualies at the end of the week. :) I wish she'd play the $10K maindraw in India next week instead though.

Nov 26th, 2002, 03:29 PM

It's confirmed she lost 0-6, 0-6.
Good luck Chin Bee in Thailand.

Chin-Bee is obviously too good for this level. ;)
However, she's at least keeping match-fit, which is vital during the break.
Plus, she's setting the level for Malaysian tennis. The more opportunity others get to play her, the more they can improve, etc.
Let's hope 2003 will be an excellent year for her.

Young stars coming to town
By NIUH JIT ENG
KUALA LUMPUR: The future of world tennis will converge on Malaysia for the first time with a Group One ITF International Junior Championships at the National Tennis Centre in Jalan Duta from March 16-23.
The Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia’s (LTAM) secretary, Musaladin Dahlan, said that the Under-18 meet, the highest level of junior tennis, would see players from Asia, Europe and America who were among the top 200 in the world.
“The ITF have recognised Malaysia’s effort in promoting the sport, especially among the youngsters,” said Musaladin when announcing the first leg of the SportExcel-Milo-NSC-LTAM junior circuit at the National Tennis Centre yesterday.
“And hosting this tournament will give us the opportunity to see the world’s future tennis stars in action in Malaysia.”
This year’s national junior circuit will have five rounds, one more than previously. The three-day first leg tournament begins tomorrow at the National Tennis Centre.
There will be five age-groups – Under-10, 12,14,16 and 18 – contested in each round with the winners receiving 25 points. The runners-up get 15 points, the semi-finalists get eight and the quarter-finalists get four points.
The top 16 in the standings at the end of the final round qualify for the Masters Grand Finals, which will be held at the same venue from Aug 8-10.
Besides the Group One meet, Musaladin said that Malaysia would also host three other ITF junior tournaments for Groups Three and Four in Sarawak (two competitions) and Kuala Lumpur for the lower ranked players.
He added that organising these tournaments was part of the LTAM's efforts in nurturing young local talent.
“With our juniors taking part in these tournaments, it will give us an indication of what the future will be for Malaysian tennis,” said Musaladin.
“We also hope with these efforts, young players like Dannio Yahya and Adam Jaya (both 17-years-olds), who have already represented Malaysia in the Davis Cup, can make an impact at the Asian level soon and perhaps further if possible.”
He also said that the LTAM with the help of SportExcel might provide grants for those who showed promise to train and compete overseas after the Grand Finals.
Meanwhile, the executive director of SportExcel, Teng Mui Ngee, said that one of their 22 charter-members had withdrawn their RM15,000-a-year sponsorship of the junior circuit but added that it had not adversely affected the running of the circuit.
“Despite the pullout, we are glad that Measat, the Astro satellite channel providers, have joined SportExcel to help us continue running the circuit without much changes,” said Mui Ngee.
“However, we hope more companies would come forward and lend a hand for the benefit of the nation's junior athletes.”
JUNIOR CIRCUIT FIXTURES
Jan 2-4: Kuala Lumpur.
Feb 28-March 2: Kelana Jaya.
March 28-30: Kuantan.
June 20-22: Kuching.
July 18-20: Johor Baru.
Aug 8-10 (Masters Grand Finals): Kuala Lumpur.
Jan 3rd, 2003, 04:37 PM
Thanks for the news, Aaron.
However, I think this is suited more for the Junior forum, rather than this thread as it has nothing to do with Chin-Bee. :)
Speaking of Chin-Bee, I wonder where she'll be playing next...
I'd say probably the Indian satellites starting early February, or maybe Qatar Challenger the week before that.
Jan 3rd, 2003, 07:20 PM
I know it has nothing to do with Chin Bee. However, I don't think may people will care if it's in the Junior forum. I'll put it there later.
I don't know where or when but the Chinese New Year festivals are on Feb. 1st and 2nd. I don't know if she'll be playing then.
Jan 14th, 2003, 03:36 PM
Chin-Bee has committed to 2 tourneys so far in 2003:
27 Jan - 02 Feb : $10K Wellington, NZL
03 Feb - 09 Feb : $25K Doha, QAT
Of course, this is subject to change. I'll post the final lists in the Challenger forum when they're available to me.
Jan 15th, 2003, 02:08 PM
Thanks danker. :D
Looks like I was wrong about the Chinese New Year thing.
Jan 15th, 2003, 02:50 PM
No probs Aaron. :)
Chin-Bee's decision to play during Chinese New Year, proves that she really wants to go for it this year. I'd love to see her in the Top 400 at least by the end of the year. :D
Jan 15th, 2003, 04:27 PM
I dont' know besides if Chin-Bee is extremely traditional ;) ( :wavey: at Chin-Bee if she reads this :p ). Good thing for Aaron anyway if she decides to play during the lunar new year (I don't call it Chinese, because it is celebrated in non-Chinese countries too :) ).
Jan 16th, 2003, 03:12 PM
:wavey: Danker and Steve!
Lunar New Year it is. ;)
I would really love to see her in top 400 as well. That would be great. But I think she needs to be based somewhere else. There's no competition at all locally. :(
Jan 16th, 2003, 04:47 PM
In the article posted earlier, Chin-Bee mentioned if "funds" were available, she'd like to travel more to play more tournaments. I really hope she receives some. :)
When Chin-Bee was based in the States, she got some good competition against the best Collegiate players. It must have been a huge change for her to return home and go up against local players who've had practically no "foreign" experience.
Jan 16th, 2003, 04:49 PM
BTW, I really think Chin-Bee can make the Top 400 this year. She'll have to up her performances in the bigger events such as $25K+ and take advantage of WCs given to her in these events though. Winning just 1 round would give her 3.5 points which will boost her ranking by heaps. :)
Jan 17th, 2003, 02:49 PM
Exactly Danker. A win, just one win in the 25ks would do her a world of good. Confidents and rankings wise. :)
It's time for the LTAM to do something. They have been doing nothing. :(
Chinn Bee's desicion is a little weird. After all she graduated in USA. Why not stay there?
Jan 17th, 2003, 03:11 PM
And what about her husband  ;) ???
Jan 17th, 2003, 03:47 PM
Stephane, have you met Chin-Bee's husband?
I think she has an Indian-Malaysian coach at the moment, but I wonder if that's him?
Jan 17th, 2003, 03:56 PM
Hello Luke, I have not met her husband, but I have met her coach ;) . A former professional player I understood (used to play Davis cup for Malaysia if not mistaken). Sorry I can't remember his name  . Very nice chap though :D .
Jan 18th, 2003, 03:37 PM
Is it V. Selvam? Or is it the other one? Can't remember that guys name.
Latest news. the National Sports Council will not be funding the LTAM. They will have to find they're own funds to start they're programs and training for the national players. And they expect Malaysia to be like Indonesai and Thailand.
Jan 18th, 2003, 04:39 PM
should be selvam than..
cant be ramachandran right?

Could be Ramachandran (that's the name). I think Selvam is coaching Dannio Yahya now.
Jan 19th, 2003, 04:49 PM
Yes Aaron, that's the guy. Used to call him Rama.
Jan 20th, 2003, 02:54 PM
Rama, short form. :) He's quite an accomplished player himself.
Jan 21st, 2003, 07:28 AM

Jan 22nd, 2003, 03:08 PM
He does. I just don't think he trains Chin Bee. ;)

Jan 27th, 2003, 02:17 PM
Adji, this is what danker said - This tourney is a warm-up to the $10K the following week. No WTA points are awarded, but Prizemoney is though.
Just to let you guys know, Liaw Chen Yee won the first leg of the MML National Seniors Tennis Circuit.
Jan 28th, 2003, 02:55 PM
And also, Sarawak plans to try and bid for a couple of ITF events.
Jan 28th, 2003, 05:32 PM
Aaron, in ITF events, do you mean pro Satellite events?
If so, I don't think it'll be too difficult to attain those tourneys as there are already ITF Junior events there.
It would be very beneficial for Chin-Bee and Malaysian Tennis in general if they could re-introduce pro tourneys in Malaysia again. :)
Jan 28th, 2003, 05:35 PM
BTW, is there an article about this issue?
Jan 29th, 2003, 03:06 PM
Yes, danker. By ITF I mean Pro satelites. It definitely would be beneficial to Chin Bee and the rest if they attain those tourneys.
I think so. Don't know if I can find it online. I'll try tomorrow. :)

  Bad result for Chin Bee. Flown all the way to New Zealand but lost in the first round.
By the way, I checked the online newspaper and they don't have it there. They only have it in print. :(
Feb 2nd, 2003, 07:26 PM
That's the link to the article. I found it posted by another poster. Thanks seabiscuit!
Feb 4th, 2003, 04:22 PM
 I think my heart almost stop!!!! I saw a user named 'chinbee' in the Indian Open thread!!!!! :D Serious! Could it be her?
Feb 4th, 2003, 04:35 PM
Aaron, next time, can you please get the URL to the "chinbee" member? I'll check out if it's available in the members list. But don't have a heart attack right now please. Wait for a while :p .
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:04 PM
I found the URL Aaron. It is : http://www.wtaworld.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=16245
But it is hard to tell if it is Chin Bee or not because there are no apparent details  .
If it is she, :wavey: and good luck for your coming matches :D .
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:05 PM
And by the way, you have been very fast to catch on that Aaron, because this member just registered today  .
If it is indeed Chin Bee, you have some kind of 6th sense ;) .
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:06 PM
And just in case, better watch what we post here now:p
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:32 PM
If this poster is indeed Chin-Bee... :wavey:
I hope she could post something here for her supporters one day.
Anyway, it looks like she'll be playing 2 $10K events in India starting from next week. All the best to her!!! :D
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:35 PM
So Chin-Bee could have played the qualies at the WTA in India before. Because the cut-off for the qualies was Li Ting, ranked #700 something.
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:41 PM
Yes, had she entered originally, she would have made the qualifying draw...
Feb 4th, 2003, 05:50 PM
Talking of the Hyderabad WTA tourney, I checked out in the sponsors link : the hotel sponsoring the event looks stunning  . Much better than hotels sponsoring WTA events in Europe for instance.
Feb 5th, 2003, 02:56 PM
It is hard to tell. Her email add is private. I don't think it gives away anything. :o at me because I already memorised it!
I just saw it while browsing the Indian Open forum. It could be her, maybe she's already in India?
:wavey: Chin Bee if it's you!
Feb 5th, 2003, 03:05 PM
:D Best of luck to Chin Bee in India. I hope she gest some wins. :)
Actually, many things in Asia are better then Europe. It's just the mind set of the people that everything in Asia is not good. :(
Feb 9th, 2003, 04:17 AM
Chin-Bee withdrew from $10K Chennai due to medical reasons.
I hope nothing's serious...
Feb 9th, 2003, 03:23 PM
Hope she's okay.
Feb 11th, 2003, 05:14 PM
Chin-Bee's withdrawn from $10K Bangalore as well with a Medical Certificate.
I'm beginning to worry now... :o
Feb 11th, 2003, 05:35 PM
 :( Hope it's nothing serious. Mad that we can't get anymore info.
Mar 2nd, 2003, 06:36 PM
Yes, I am mad too. And I see no news anywhere  . I would appreciate to know at least if she's fine  .

Yesterday on the final day of Salonpas International Junior Championships Grade 2 in Jakarta, I had a good chat with Thai player, Thassha Vitayaviroj. She heard that Chin Bee is retiring but she did not clearly explain the reason and where she heard it from. Does anyone know? BTW, Thassha will play 25K in Vietnam in April!
Mar 3rd, 2003, 02:33 AM
Thanks for the update. If we hear nothing about Chin-Bee until then  , I hope to get some news latest when the $25K starts in Vietnam.
I hope Chin-Bee is fine  . It's the most important thing :wavey: .
Mar 3rd, 2003, 01:17 PM
If that news is true, I'm very .
She seemed really motivated toward the end of last year. I wonder what made her change her mind?
Mar 3rd, 2003, 04:07 PM
Adji did tell me earlier but I didn't post it because I'm not sure if it's comfirmed. If she really is retiring I'm very sad.
I think it could be the injury that made her change her mind. So far nothing in the local papers.
Mar 4th, 2003, 05:58 PM
Chin-Bee entered $25K Redding, USA but withdrew.
Most probably because the field was too strong...
Mar 4th, 2003, 06:59 PM
Thanks for the news Luke :) .
I do hope your explanation is the correct one.
And it is extremely worrying not to find any news anywhere about Chin-Bee. No way to know if she is alright  .
Mar 5th, 2003, 02:21 AM
 chin bee is retireing??  just so blur..
will try my very best to ask around my tennis mates, as i seldom contact them nowadays
