Anastasia Myskina, Vera Zvonareva and Svetlana Kuznetsova have obviously not had great seasons.

All three russians have dropped way below thier career high rankings.

Who do you think will have the best season in 2006?

Make predictions about rankings!

Major Choking?? Well Nastya and Sveta have already won majors

I think definitely Lena D will have the best 2006 :) out of the "choking russians"

My predictions:

sveta will have a better season next year and will get back in the top 10. myskina will have a similar year to this one (in terms of ranking). vera will get back in the top 20, but not above 15

and i'm sure they'll all choke in matches from time to time ;)

Nastya has a win-löss record of 9-10 until the grass season started in 2005. There´s basically no way to play worse than that so she will definetly gain a bunch of points, thus climb up a few ranks and personally I really hope that she can improve her fall-season performance a bit. I think she will have a good upcoming season.

Sveta has the game, she also has the mental game and I´ve always considered her as the best Russian player technically. Similar to Nastya, she can only do better. In case she drops down the rankings any further, it´s a shame to her abilities.

Vera? As much as I like her...probably same season as in 2005. She desperately needs to change something in her mind or in her team. She had a great doubles season so at least there is something in which she is successful in.

I´d like to see all of them doing well next season

i would probably WANT anastacia to do better because of the setbacks she's had to suffer this year in her family and everything. i just hope she fires back into the top 10. it'd be nice to see svetlana back in the top 10 too. top 5 will be kinda asking for a lot.

lindsay, kim, maria, amelia and mary are like REALLY far ahead.

For all this talk of Sveta having a *horrible* year, she really didn't. Up until the summer hardcourt season she was having a solid year. It wasn't until she got injured that she started playing poorly. I see her back in the top-10 or just outside it next year. Nastya will get back to the top-10 or just outside it as well. Vera is so talented, so if she finds her form after her injury she'll make top-20 for sure.

Sveta and Nastya are in one category though. I think they will both have a relatively good year.
Vera will reach the top 30 again. Perhaps top 20.

I think many are underestimating the beloved Bepa a little just because She is a bit of a nutcase 85% of Her court time, a tuned in Bepa can certainly hold Her own with both of the others. There is no doubt if She dosen't get a grip of Herself the mental side will continue to be a condom on Her penis of progress for the upcoming season.but here's hoping

Nastya is a hot and cold player. 2005 was largely cold, 2004 largely hot. 2006 is surely a good year!

I don't understand the thread title. I can't think of instances of ANY of them 'choking' this year. That's like saying Venus choked this year cause it wasn't as good a year as 2001.

I think Svetlana is the only one who will crack the top ten this year, with Myskina just outside.

I think it is going to be a very important season for Sveta. If she can turn it around and get some confidence back now that she does not have the "reigning US Champion" label weighing down on her, I think she could be a real threat in 2006. I hope she can because I like her game and think she has a lot of talent.

Nastya had a reason behind her performance. And when the reason was no more she started playing better. Now you tell me about Sveta's 2005

Back injury, what was so horrible about her year before the summer hard court season? She had one or two bad losses, but performed very well at the slams. Nothing to be ashamed of for her sophomore season as a threat.

As for the thread title, I think they are characterizing the three players as chokers for Sveta's RG, Vera's various matches, and not really sure about Nastya. I don't agree with it, but I think that's why he/she is doing.

As pathetic as it may sound, this is exactly the reason why I think that Nastya would have the easiest way to make her way back to the top. I mean it´s already crazy enough that she ended up ranked 14th (and 11th with the new rankings) after such a rather bad year. I think she will have a lot of fun and put in a lot of willingness to compensate for 2005.

The rollercoaster can only go one way: UP

Nastya 2005...one would have to be blind to ignore the fact that she slowly but steadily came back towards the end of the year:

Sydney: 2nd round
AusOpen: 4th round
Antwerp: SF
Doha: 2nd round
Dubai: QF
Miami: 4th round
Amelia Island: 3rd round
Charleston: 2nd round
Berlin: 2nd round
French Open: 1st round
----------------------------=> Win-loss: 9-10 (first half of the year)

Eastbourne: QF
Wimbledon: QF
Fed Cup SF: won both singles
Stockholm: F
Toronto: SF
US Open: 3rd round
Fed Cup: lost both
Kolkota: won
Filderstadt: QF
Moscow: QF
Zurich: SF
----------------------------=> Win-loss: 28 - 10 (Eastbourne - Zurich)

Everything will be fine;)

Kuznetsova.

Even if she's not back in her prime next year, I feel she's got more potential than the other two to keep herself as a top player for the next few years.

I think the pressure is off all the girls so hopefully they can all have a better year.

Vera will get back to the outskirts of the Top20, would probably enter it and then leave again. She will win Memphis for a third consecutive time.

Anastasia will do well on the clay courts and maybe pick up some of the smaller titles and will do well in the summer hardcourt events.

Sveta will do better than she did last year too and will win some clay court titles.

Vera's poor 2005 was due to an energy-sapping viral infection that wasn't diagnosed until August, and then a serious ankle-sprain that forced her to miss the US Open.

Vera is more talented than Myskina and Kuznetsova, even though they have won Grand Slam titles before her. Vera has tremendous fighting-spirit, and could certainly get back to the top ten in 2006 if healthy. She's a potential top-five player and Grand Slam champion.
