Can anyone shed some light on when this takes place, and which/how many players will be participating? I know Jelena is gonna play for it and I'm getting anxious.

Thanks. :)

Do you know when it begins, and which players will play?

is this 16 person tournament for one or two of the WCs? cos if it 16 then you'll need 4 wins so it would be easier to go through qualifying (so then i am assuming that everyone in this draw will not be high enough to enter qualifying?)

The WC only award to the winner of playoff! Rest of available WCs based on their results in Australian $25K Challengers and tournaments lead to Australian Open.

Pratt, E. Dominikovic, Ferguson, Breadmore and Dokic have been confirmed by Tennis Australia for the playoff. Eleven players are to be announced. It will be held at Melbourne Park between December 18-21.

Another thing, Casey Dellacqua will not be playing as she has already earnt a WC by winning the Kia Challenger Tour. Could be a good thing for Jelena considering the form Casey has been in recently compared to the likes of Pratt and Evie.

i'm guessing Dokic isn't too popular among the other Aussie girls and they will all be gunning to put her out of business.

What makes you think that? I think they probably all feel bad she had to grow up with such a devil-dad, and most of them are probably glad she made it back home again -- she did grow up there.

I bet if she loses, she still gets a wildcard.

I can't believe they're not giving Nicole Pratt a WC :speakles:

And finally Tennis Australia has decided not to waste another WC on Evie Dominikovic...This girl's has had way too many chances to make it and never did. I'm sure there are other young aussies willing to take a shot at the big spot, like her sister Daniella, or Beti Sekulovski :)

the playoff starts next week i think. Training camp starts Wednesday.

Got to think Pratt will be pretty hard to beat. Ferguson on form is better but she's been injured. Pretty tough ask for Jelena given her lack of play but i'm almost certain she'll get a wildcard no matter what because it been pretty big news in tennis terms here.

Just because they're in the playoffs doesn't mean they won't get a wildcard. If Pratt or Dominikovic don't win this event, I can almost guarantee that they will get Main Draw Wild Cards. What country wouldn't give wild cards to their #2 or #3 women?

Exactly. The WC recipients won't be decided for another few weeks but the winner of this playoff is guaranteed one. So Evie and Pratty are still likely to receive one.

Have a read of this thread to see who is likely to receive the WCs:

yeah but neither are young or ranked lowly because of injury. got remember that Hinigs/Dokic throw a spanner in the works as well.

Exactly. Not too many choices really...but having said that, I don't think TA will be willing to handout another WC to Evie. She'll probably have to win this playoff thing to get one (if she bothers to turn up that is).

As for Jelena not being accepted back warmly by the players, I am sure that most of them (particularly the ones she grew up with, like Adamczak and Dominikovic) will be very accommodating and happy to have her back. You can't please everyone though, and I am certain there are a small contingent that aren't too thrilled. Tough.

I reckon Pratt and Evie will still get wildcards...along with Jelena, Casey, and Sophie, Lauren Breadmore

Agnieszka Radwanska (1989) - you should follow the ITF and Junior Circuit more often, my dear ;) She won Junior's Wimbledon and many more junior tournaments, as well as she won ITF titles and reached some finals there...

Aga has also a younger sister who just turned 15 and both did a lot of demage in doubles on the ITF... :P

both playing Orange Bowl this week.
