She is sooooo talented. Just beat the top seed and the 16's European Champion in the 4th round. Trains at the Bollettieri Academy. Looks like Portugal could have a big star in the making!!! GO Michelle!!!! Now beating the number 2 in the ETA 16's in the quarters. This is Vaidisova, Sharapova like. She beat her doubles partner in the semis and plays a qualifier in the finals. Lets go Michelle, take the title!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

if she's still in the game, that is... I certainly hope she's, but a lot of Bollitieri students get burned out very early.

That is really great! She's obviously talented.

Makes me wonder, who is the best WTA player from Portugal in history?

Astonishing.

I had heard those two clowns at Eurosport mention her a while back, and did a quick Google, but I had no idea she had this potential.

Makes me wonder, who is the best WTA player from Portugal in history?

In history, no idea. Maybe Sofia Prazeres (career high #152)?

Currently, Frederica Piedade.

I already thought it wouldn't be a real 'accomplished' player. Not to disrespect, but I never heard of a really great female tennis player from Portugal!

Great to see this very young girl doing so well though! :yeah:

Any pictures?

I heard of her some years ago and it seems she is as good as i heard, come on Michelle, take this title (someone who beats Lykina that way deserves a lot of respect)

Michelle :worship:
Maybe in Spain we don't have these promising stars but at least they are from our neighbour countries ;)

I read at another message board (courtesy of Google) that Michelle Brito routinely beats players two years older than her.

To become another Sharapova or Vaidisova, though, she'll have to grow to a height quite unusual for Portuguese girls, but then again maybe she's not actually an ethnic Portuguese.

Her name sure does not suggest she is entirely ethnic Portuguese...
I wish somebody else had a little more info to share...

Well, I have to admitt it's very impressive to see a 12 yo beat top 16yo players. Maybe we've got a future top tenner here.
