View Full Version : How do YOU play?

May 3rd, 2002, 08:08 PM
I know many of you guys play tennis yourself so I was wondering what's your style?
I mean are you a baseline player or a serve and volley player?
Do you have a one-handed backhand or a two handed?
What's your best and worst shot?
Are you a powerplayer?
With which tennis player would you compare your game?

I'm a powerplayer, get my advantage in my serve. Two handed backhand. Don't like playing volleys (I'm a bit clumpsy), so more the baseline-type. Best shots: forehand and backhand cross court. Weak shots: backhand long line and volleys

mr. Greg Rusedski? he was inspired by me!

i have the fastest serve in my practice group (im 13, some of them are 16), & magnifisent volleys, my forehand sucks, although its huge, but my backhand rocks, although its weak

best shot: SERVE!
wrost shot: forehand

Im a baseliner but when i feel confortable i go right up there. My worst shot its my back hand my best shot is my forehand! Im a one handed forehander and a two handed back hand. I am definently not a power player! Noones

i like to hit hard (i try it)
my serve is weak
but iīm a fighter on the court - thats the best on me :)

Right Hander
Two handed Forehand
Two handed Backhand
Serve : Average (I am trying to serve ā la Hingis high %)
My best shot : Forhand down the line.
My worst shot : THE NET!!! I never go there.
I am mostly a basliner, I go to the net just to shake hands or to pick-up a ball :).

May 3rd, 2002, 09:23 PM
I am a baseliner, i try and hit every shot as hard as can and pray it lands somewhere in the court, however i don't hit the ball particularly hard, i try but can't. Can not volley to save my life, if i come to net it's usually for a really short ball and even then i let it bounce before hitting it.

Best shot: Backhand down the line, especially form the retun of serve.

Worst shot: My serve, Horrible technique, no pace what so ever, tried changing my technique but got back and shoulder pains. It's really flat and hardly bounces away form the hitting zone.

I'm a baseline player

I have a two handed backhand

My best shot is my backhand and my worst is my service (it can be perfect sometimes but generaly, it's awful!!)

Yes, I think I'm a power player, I hit the ball very hard but I like to finish points at the net with a high volley, and I like be in the middle of the court and put a ball on the lest, another on the right,...

I think for putting a ball in the left and then in the right, I'm like Monica Seles. For hitting the ball hard I would say Kim and Jelena and for the volley Kim

May 3rd, 2002, 09:57 PM
I'm right handed one handed forehand 2 handed backhand

My best shot i'd say is my crosscourt backhand cos i can hit it with a LOT of power but also get good angles,i'm also developing a loopy shot with it which is proving affective.

My worst shot is probably my serve because its very inconsistant sometimes it can be good but mainly bad i serve something like 45% 1st serve usually:o

My net game is getting good although i don't really volley i just drive the ball into the ground forehand. My backhand is more of a drive volley:D

Iīm kinda allround I think.
Best shots= forehand and first serve (if itīs on)
Weak shots=volleys (but Iīm learning;))

I can hit winners of both sides but usually go for the forehand if itīs possible.
Iīm working on my consistency, and I have to be more patient. I usually want to finish the points too quickly.

Iīm more of a baseliner, but if thereīs a possibility, iīll go to the net, but since my volleys arenīt that good, I prefer to stay back.

My first serve is quite good, at least, the boys in my group always say: "For a girl you can serve pretty fast!" hehe:cool:

But I sometimes have days that i just cannot hit ONE good ball, thatīs really frustrating!

i play one-handed both sides, and tend to stay at the baseline and wait for the mistake.

I hit with heavy topspin on the forehand, and slice on the backhand, though I can hit topspin moonballs from the backhand side.

I always spin the serve in, preferring to slice it wide to the deuce court and kick it out wide in the ad court. i get a lot of serves in and rarely double-fault, but there's not much pace.

best shot - topspin forehand up the line, from the backhand side
worst shot - forehand volley, especially the high volley

hate playing serve volleyers as they cause me to rush my shots: i hate being under pressure on the return of serve.

I play one or two-handed backhand and one or two-handed forehand. I have a decent first serve and a second serve that makes Martina's look like Venus-bombshells. I think my strongpoint is my groundstrokes and my major weakness is volleying...i stay as far away from the net as possible (that's a rule for me).

May 3rd, 2002, 11:47 PM
I have been playing 2-3 times a week lately and I am very aware of my strengths and weaknesses now more than ever!

Two-handed backhand...will attempt one-handed backhand on occassion with odd resluts. This is my weakest shot.

I like to use power in my game..I don't rely on it. My volley is good and improving as we have been focusing on it in training.

My best shot is my forehand. It has pace and it surprise me sometimes...I like it to Capriati's but definitly not as hard....

I chase down everything and I love fighting for every ball...love making angles...

May 3rd, 2002, 11:51 PM
I play left-handed, and with one hand on both sides. The way I play depends on the surface. I mainly do serve-and-volley when I am playing on hardcourts, grass or carpet. When I play on clay though, I usually junkball and drop shot. I hit the ball pretty flat.... I am probably one of the few who still uses the contintental forehand. My best shot is by far my volley (off both the forehand and backhand sides), I also have an effective lefty kick serve. I also have pretty solid drop shots, and my down-the-line backhand shot is usually pretty effective. The worst part of my game is probably lobs and smashes... my lobs either go too low, or too far... and my smashes usually go into the net or right to the opponent.... but I'm working on it. :)

Wow QUEEN VEE! Your'e scouting report is just like Patty Schnyder's scouting report! ;) The main difference between you and Patty is that you actually like Anna Kournikova!

Me? A two handed BH, a spin serve, good volley's (when they go in!) and a good BH dropshot. But like the Russian players, I wilt in oppresive heat!

Right Hander
One handed Forehand
Two handed Backhand
Serve: It's OK..I can serve lots of double faults. But when it's on, it's really good.
My best shot: Backhand crosscourt
My worst shot : Smash...OMG, I can't even hit a smash (literally). When I swing, I completely miss the ball. :o :o :o

I play from the baseline 70% of the time. I'm pretty good at the net, but the problem is I never go there. It's mainly because my opponents always hit lobs, because they know I can't hit an overhead....

May 4th, 2002, 03:51 AM
like Dewonder Davis

May 4th, 2002, 04:09 AM
I'm primarily a baseliner, pretty predatory in nature. I like to finish points at net especiallyswinging volleys though I miss a lot on my backhand. My groundies are my weapons. I hit a lot of winners off my forehand and my backhand down the line is pretty good or at least draws the error most of the time. My serve is hard but inconsistent, so it doesn't matter cause it never goes in. My volleys are ok.

I think I play like Lindsay a bit, flat, hard groundies with a little topspin. I just need to develop that backhand....

Well its really hard explaining my game, cause it varies so much it's not even funny. I'll try.

1st Serve:
On 'on' days I have a jump serve, and can hit a number of aces with people wondering where those came from. One of my main weapons.
On 'off days I can't jump serve worth shite, so I stay on the ground. Very week serve, very attackable. I try to put some slice, but it's usually not very effective. It's actually pretty much the same as my second serve.

2nd serve:
Allways terrible. Allways the same old slice that doesn't do any good. And that's if it crosses the net.

My most consistent weapon. When it's on, it's always near the line. Don't go much for normal crosscourt. Mostly down the line, or in to out crosscourt. Down the line can be a killer.

When off, it can't go over the net. :( When on, down the line gets me a number winners.

Beautiful, if I may say so myself. :p Still, I miss every last one when it's not my day.

I'm too eager. When I'm practicing it's good, when I'm playing every last one goes into the net. I stay away from them.

There. On each day I play there's an equal possibility of any shot being on or off. When I gather which ones are working that day, I try to use them. I like playing agressive, but when nothing is working, I cut down on all pace, and just return the ball in the court. Sometimes confuses my opponents so much they loose the match.

It can get really funny... Sometimes my serve's terible, but my volleys great. Result - I can't keep my serve if my life's on stake, but I volley my way through opponents games without difficulty...

It's quite frustrating...

May 4th, 2002, 09:01 AM
I play doubledhanded on BOTH my forehand and backhand except my grip doesn't change at all. My backhand would have to be one of my worst shots partly coz i can't get uch power but i have just learnt to add topspin and power, like my forehand does. I am also a very unusual volleyer :D :lick:

May 4th, 2002, 09:05 AM
I have a serve and volley style game,
And I have a two-handed backhand but it's very very bad!! :o
My best shot is probably my volleys and mosrt is by far my backhand!
I am NOT a powerplayer but I am working on my power at the mo,
I would say that Im a cross between Greg Rusedski playing wise (well afterall he was the person that got me into playing tennis :o) but with the speed of Venus Williams and I would also say Justine Henin but my backhand is quite obviously NOT as good as hers.

May 4th, 2002, 09:15 AM
Right Handed
Two-handed Backhand
Baseline player
Serve is usually consistent

Best Shot- Backhand crosscourt
Worst Shot- When I'm at the net :o

May 4th, 2002, 10:13 AM
I'm a right-hander and I play one-handed on both sides.
I have a pretty powerful forehand but my backhand totally sucks:sad: (I'm working on that :))
Mostly my serve is weak but when it's on ...
I like to go up to the net and my volleys and smashes are quite good :)
Best shot : forehand
Worst shot : backhand definitly

May 4th, 2002, 10:38 AM
How do I play???? Badly!!! lol

I don't have a good serve, just goo denough to not be killed by every return. My volleys suck so you never see me at the net.

I play with a lot of patience (used to be different), trying to make the court very large making the other run a lot. I don't hit very hard, but try to place the ball. I can hit hard from the baseline too, but I'm rather inconsistent if I do so.

I play 2 handed backhand, a very solid stroke, never hit a winner with hit but I always use it to open the court.

May 4th, 2002, 10:44 AM
I'm one-handed on both sides, but when I'm overpowered I sometimes play two-handed. (I don't want to break my pulse ;))

My best shot... Hmmm... my best shot must be forehand now. It used to be backhand, but I've worked a lot on my forehand and now that's my best shot (well most consistent). I do have a very flat and pretty hard backhand, but sometimes it's just too flat ;)

I'm not really a power player... Average I'd say.

My serving motion looks like Justine's but of course i don't hit as hard as her!

May 4th, 2002, 10:46 AM
I'm a baseliner
One handed backhand --> best shot
Forehand is my most powerful though
my volleys are non-existant
My serve is like Justine's :o but not at all powerful

May 4th, 2002, 12:27 PM
arn stole my joke!! lol

I play 1 handed forehanded and switch between 1 and 2 handed backhands. Thsi gives me a HUGE advantage and makes up fro my crappy serving (i may as well throw the ball over the net, itd go faster) cause i can place returns anywhere and surprise my opponent.

My favs shots are my drop shot returns (either back hand or forehand), my slice backhand that starts of like a double haned one but i change at eh last moment - i always cathc tehm out.
my two ahnded cross court abckhard, i just swing my racket as hard as a i can and hope. :p

Oh, and my "super forehand", like teh one where u sudenly change pace and wack it is a hard as u can, if u do it well enough imy t-shirt comes flingin up and look like im a lot stronger and better than i actually am ;)

oh and im good at teh net, very perceptive.

Paul :D

May 4th, 2002, 07:24 PM
i dont really play or have time to play m,ainly cos im bogged down in uni qork..so right now i cant play! except for a consistent 2 handed backhand! ;):)

i used to have a hard forehand ay back when..bu ts desrted me for a loopy piece of crap that doesnt go in where i want it to

May 4th, 2002, 07:41 PM
I play two handed backhand(probably my strongest shot)...

Forehand is pretty good(sometimes can be a liability).

Serve is okay, but can be in a "Kournikova or Venus" mode and double loads!!

I volley once-in-awhile, but I have to force myself up there.

I LOVE drop shotting, hitting winners anywhere, and hitting angles!!

Overall, if you looked at Monica play, it's almost a mirror except the serve and forehand...

May 4th, 2002, 07:49 PM

~double handed backhand- my best/only decent shot.
~ok-ish forehand, pretty powerful, but can be inaccurate
~RUBBISH serve- my weakness. I double fault all the time.:(
~volleys are good, but i don't come to the net enough, and i usually get passed if I do. I do great drop shots though.:)

I kinda have a natural talent for the game which is really weird and I am not boasting really, but I can't explain why I can hit the ball so hard. I have only been playing for four years, but picked it up very quickly and have worked so hard on getting good technique.

My best shots:

forehand - I just hit it hard, fairly flat but with bit of topspin. My biggest weapon and is like a bullet.

Backhand - two handed - again very hard, fairly flat with a bit of topspin.

Serve - can be a big weapon and it is very heavy. It really kicks off the deck, even when hit flat. I can serve at over 110mph down the T.

I really am not the best volleyer and my footwork can be bad. The main thing about me if you saw me is how hard I hit the ball, and other people can't! I just don't know where this power comes from.

May 4th, 2002, 11:51 PM
I'm a serve/volleyer. My volleys aren't that great though, and I often stay back. I have a twohanded backhand and a onehanded slice that are both very consistant, I roll over my forehand but misshit it a lot so I like to run around it, lol. My first serve is good but I tend to double when I miss it :(

May 5th, 2002, 12:09 AM
Power backhand, topspin forehand (usually deep and placed well), good first serve, crappy volleys, poor second serve, pitiful smash (i still don't know why), very good speed, good touch.

Best shot: Backhand DTL
Worst: Smash
