how many MD WC's does The AO allow? if it is 3 as i think then it would most likely be

Dokic

Hingis

Capriati

but don't they need to give a cetain amount of wildcards to asian players and aussie up & comers?

Seems like Dellacqua and Amanmuradova get the Australian/Asian wildcards. I'm glad the Australian Open isn't like Wimbledon or the French where there are always a dozen British/French players in the maindraw that no one has heard of.

Dokic is playing qualifying to get a WC - i hope she qualifies but its unlikely coz the Aus girls would be VERY keen to beat her.

ermm actually it's not all for the 'were-top' players. Akgul Amanmuradova recieved one after winning the Asian Championships :hearts: Sophie Ferguson will probably get one as well.

Hingis already has one if she wants it so that's good:) (1)

Dokic possibly, if she doesn't win one in the QF thing someone mentioned. (2)

Dominokovic (3)

If Pratt needs one she'll get it. (4)

Delacquea(sp.) (5)

Amun. (6)

I would guess either Ferguson or Wheeler (7)

I agree that Pin is the most likely option for the French also (8) Are there 8 total or more?

Isn't there a British WC too? I thought there was some deal with Wimby?

i don't think they have a deal with Wimbledon. Aussie girls can only get French Open WC. well anyone can confirm this?

She sure did qualify!! She beat Callens, Hewitt and Ashley to get there!

The WC was a recirpciol thing with Wimbledon (who gave its WC to Samantha Stosur) in 2003 and was not repeated.

Hingis will definitley receive one if she wants one.
Amanarudova receives the Asian WC.

Pratt will probably need one too, and the French WC will probably either go to Beltrame or Pin

Dellacqua got one too for being the Kia tour "winner" (from the recent challengers in QLD and SA).Guccione got it on the mens side.

2 of the wild cards should be french as they did last year...I think the have an agreement with the french they grant them 2 wild cards (One male and one female) for the AO and they get 2 in return for RG

Beltrame wont need one :bounce:
she's 102 for next weeks deadline list. (and quite a few top 100 missing injured or retired)

This year there is a new WC for the winner of the under-18 playoff that will take place around the same time as the WC playoff.

So there will be WCs for:

Uncle Tobys circuit winner (Dellaqua)
Asian WC winner (Amanmuradova)
WC playoff winner
Under 18 WC playoff winner
French WC

I wouldn't give Dokic a wildcard into the maindraw. She hasn't shown up for events, she's screamed about rigging draws at the Australian Open, and hasn't shown herself able to defeat players in the 400's. Why would a tournament organizer want her in the main draw when her odds of progressing are slim, and she'll likely make a huge commotion? I bet Australia has forgotten about her, or given up on her, and they should. She's more trouble than she's worth at the moment. If she can progress through qualifying, she deserves a spot.

We still are not sure if Hingis will start her comeback at the Australian season, so we'll only have to wait until Saturday:)!

Why does everyone take it as a given that Capriati's gonna be back in time? Last I heard she hadn't even picked up a racquet yet...

Dokic will be playing Wildcard Play-Off Qualifying, so she is showing the organizers that she is determined. She has obvoiusly had a really dark blip in her life, but she wants to get over it and go back to the profession she loves. She is obviously keen and serious about this comeback, so just give her a chance!

Good chance - and I certainly would like to see an up-and-coming Kiwi!

Mary Joe said that Capriati has been training. She is usually "in the know". The other report that I read said that Capriati would start training the first week of Dec. Seems it is very hard to find something definitive about jennifer these days.

As long as Capriait is there and playing that's all I care about. How it happens...I don't care. Just want to see her on court! ;)

I agree with you up to this point. She hasn't shown that she's serious about a comeback, she's said that she's serious about a comeback. She hasn't bothered to show up to 2, 3, 4 events now. That's not showing anything other than an inability to be responsible. If she wins the wildcard playoff, good on her. If not, she should at least have the decency to show up to events she's signed up for, or withdraw and give someone else a chance.

If Jen did not start training until today, I think making the AO is out of the question. She simply won't be in any kind of shape to play three setters.
