I would love to see her playing with Sharapova but I guess Masha won't play doubles so I hope Martina will play with a young and powerful player like Ana Ivanovic or Nikki Vaidisova. They would compensate Martina's lack of power plus Marti could help them to be more at ease on the net :) :bounce:

I think so to but i really do not think SHARAPOVA wants to play doubles at this point in her career

If Davenport plays double which she won't, then Lindsay.
Other wise a power player. Though Dementieva would be nice.

though i voted for the martina martina team - i would like to see her play with around 15 different partners this year.
it would mean much more to them than to her.

It's PAOLA, not Paula

And I think Martina is smart enough to know that she shouldn't force her body beyond singles. If she pushes too hard, injuries WILL be back.

Anyway, I voted Navratilova...Just because it would be amazing to see this two players together. They're like the queens of two different eras. And come on, Hingis was named after Navratilova.

If she is serious about being a top singles player, she shoul avoid doubles. If she does not do well in singles, then perahps she could do well in doubles. She and Navratilova would be a great crowd draw!

Personally, i would love a Dokic/Hingis team - they're both making comebacks and i think they would team quite well ;)

But if she plays with different partners the whole year then she could do well too - i don't really mind.....

Hingis/Kuznetsova would be an awesome team tho!!!!

Kournikova and Martina made a very interesting, successful, and famous team. I think the only partnership that could equal perhas even go beyond that would be Sharapova and Martina. They would be a powerful team. Together, they could revive the fading doubles game. It would also be a learning experience for Maria. But just like some have said, Maria seems to not have any desire to play doubles now and in the near future.

Nav would be interesting, but I think both would do better with a more powerful baseline partner, given their extremely great net skills..

I would love to see Martina & Venus playing doubles, probably wouldn't happen though, I think she got along better with Serena.

Kuznetsova was a good suggestion too... I think they would compliment each others' games well. They would both help each other IMO. Although she may be playing with Molik... Is Alicia going to be able to play next year??

ATM she is taking all of 2006 off the tour to fully recover and re assess wher she is going. Maybe she will heal quicker than expected and she will be back but its doubtfull

i think Jenny Hopkins would be the best doubles choice
they did well in World Team Tennis together
and there would be clashing of egos like with Kornikova even though they are good friends again
but I think Jenny and Martina would do well

Hingis and Sharapova meet the first time at Bollitierri tennis academy... Apparently Hingis was shocked with the talent... but still the smartness was with Hingis then.

Sharapova have always liked her since then and has the wish to play her in a true match...

I would love to see them play agaisnt each other... But playing doubles may mislead... yet, I think it would be good... the powerhouse in one said, and the tactics manager in the other... :D

Patty in doubles? I mean, even with Schett, she was not a good doubles player.

I'd say she needs someone with a strong serve to compensate for her...not so strong serve. She and Ai Sugiyama are in similar situations: they are small and don't hit with a ton of weight, so it helps to have a more powerful baseliner behind them. However, she showed with her success with Kournikova that she can play with a volleyer pretty well, too. I just doubt she and Schnyder would get along, or Navratilova for that matter. Cara Black wouldn't play with her, I don't think. Hantuchova would make a good partner too.

Ruano-Pascual has thrived in doubles by playing with another baseliner. There's zero chance she and Hingis would be a great doubles team. Neither of them compliment the other's game.

The doubles circuit may shape up to be more interesting than ever next year.

Its said in the SWISS Blick that Mario Widmer and Martina were called by Martina Navratilova herself if she wants to play with her.

Obviously the smartness in that decision would be that it would only be a small schedule in doubles just for the fun of it and play, lets say the GS and up to 6 more events if possible. I think she should limit herself to singles but teaming with Navratilova shouldnt be that bad:

Sydney, AO
Berlin, FO
Eastbourne, Wimbledon
US event, USO
Stuttgart, Zurich

as examples

I can't see anybody else but Anna K. to play doble with martina.. I would be so sad if she found another partner, it would be the end of the legend... But maybe anna should take the oppurtunity to make a such waited come back, it'd be so great to see them play together again on the wta tour... :hearts:

The 2 Martinas would be a wash!
Neither one of them has much of a serve.
Navratilova's is a shadow of what it used to be and Hingis never had much pop to being with!
Hingis should seek out Anna Lena if she needs a partner.
Why she would put the added stress on her feet?
Now that's a whole nother argument!

It's great that martina is taking another shot as a professional.

I wouldn't want her to play with Sugiyama because her and Hantuchova make a great team.
It would be great if she paired up with a young player that is set to make a break but hasn't yet.
