Hingis has always worked hard when she was very motivated so I believe that with her will, her hard work and her natural talent she can come back in the top 20 :yeah: :bigclap: Good luck Martina

I don't think Martina would have come back unless she feels that she is absolutely ready, I think that this time next year she could be top 10.

But I hope she proves me wrong.

I think some people are being a little too optimistic too early on. I want to see how she plays her opening tournies first. I wouldnt like to see her crash and burn.

fammmmedspin
Nov 29th, 2005, 09:02 PM
Depends what she plays and how often obviously. The current top 10 though is largely the top 10 she headed - its made up largely of people her age or older and, with the exception of a fit Justine (which may be a contradiction) and a consistent Kim, its either playing little better or worse than it did when she retired.

21-40 if she is lucky.

I think the same too.Being off court for 3 years is very hard to overcome.

She will lose matches and will have to support this.Dont know if she will be strong enough.Dont think.See what happened early in this season.

With Mom: may 11-20

Without Mom: maybe 21-40 but most likely lower.

Reason: Questionable desire and work ethic. If she's only coming back because she misses the attention she won't finish the full year.

If she sees her opening where she can take advantage of the schedule, the never ending injuries to top 10 players and is willing to overplay (more than 18 events in 2006) she can "play the computer game" for a top 20 ranking.

I think her first year back Martina should make the TOP 20. I think if all goes well and she has no injurys she should be a contender for slams in 2007 :bounce:

Won't be ranked in the top five next year. The women's game is too strong for her to make it in the top 10....The key for her i think is that she's going to have to attack more and make her serve a weapon!! If she can do these two things then she could make it in the top 10 eventually but not next year..

Prediction: 11-30 for 2006 yr end ranks

133 (random number, but in that area).

It is almost impossible to get top 20 when starting without a ranking. Hingis isn't really prepared to play at a top level.

Not saying she will never get back, but not this year.

I don't see why Elena Likhovtseva or Nathalie Dechy could be top 20 and not Hingis. They don't hit hard and they don't have a really big serve, just like Hingis. And Martina has 2 big advantages over them: she hardly makes any unforced error and she's one of the toughest player mentally. If she's in good shape and can play at a good level for three sets straight (meaning: not like in Thailand), her ball control and consistency would be more than enough to make her a top 20 player.

Sadly, I voted for the 200--------> option. Let's be realistic, people. She will have to be like a girl in her first year on the tour because she is unranked right now. She will have to work extremely hard to reach the top 200. But I hope she proves me wrong.

jonny84
Dec 4th, 2005, 10:46 PM
I think she will get as many WCs that she wants, so if she doesn't constantly lose in the first round of each event and do well, she can climb up the rankings more quickly. Will be harder without Quality points though :(

I think she can get to the Top50 at least by the end of the year. Maybe even higher.

Definitely. Only 1/4 of the people thought she'd end somewhere in the top ten. And it looks like she will definitely end in the top ten, somewhere.

I said she'd be #1. It's better to overestimate her than underestimate her. I'd be embarassed if I had voted she wouldn't end the year in the top ten and then she did.

You did it mostly to overestimate as you said but it´s impossible that a three year off the tour player could comeback and grasp the number one ranking right off the bat in just one year :p

Even Steffi who was out for 9 months cameback and it took her more than a year to be in the top 3 and win a grand slam again.

Well we all have and had our opinions, but some people really overestimated her and not only underestimated her but were really nasty about it, I hope now they will eat their words. I think Martina will be top 10 by the end of the year, probably around #7 or #8. However she just might suprise me. After all she has no points to defend.

points of far this year
player------------points---------tournaments
1)Hennin----------2786----------10
2)Mauresmo-------2372----------11
--------------------------------------------------
3)Clijsters---------1649----------10
4)Sharapova------1639------------8

5)Kuznetsova------1834----------13
--------------------------------------------------
6)Petrova---------1483-----------12
7)Hingis-----------1396-----------13
8)Dementieva------1211-----------12
---------------------------------------------------
the top eight are pretty well set.
The fight for one is between Henin and Mauresmo.
3 and 4 is between Sharapova and Clijsters.
Kuznetsova is 5.
6), 7), and 8) is between Petrova Hingis and Dementieva
Hingis will definitely be 6,7, or 8 at year end.
I think she will be number 6 or 7
an outside chance for 5.
