I wish Tammy the best of luck. I try to remember her beating Chanda at US Open 97 1st match on Arthur Ashe, or beating Amelie at Wimbledon. She's capeable for sure, Rika Fujiwara recently worked her way back from the challengers to pro events as well as Saori Obata on her way up. I hope she can look at them and get herself back there. :) So many players doing stuff like this. She'll be next year's Dally Randriantefy ;)

So nice to see some familiar old names and new Tammy fans at this thread. As always, thanks so much for your support.

Does anyone know how many qualifying matches Tammy has to win to get into the Aussie MD?

It's been such a LONG time since Tammy has had to qualify for a Grand Slam tourney...it's hard not to be nervous!

I will be visiting Thailand and cheering for my little sis in Pattaya next month. I hope to meet some of the Thai fans there. Danker-chan, are you still planning to be there?

She struggled a lot more than I expected her to...she hit more winners than yesterday but 8 DFs and numerous UEs....she now plays Su-Wei Hsieh who has been playing extremely well...so this is going to be a very difficult match for Tammy! She can do it though! Maybe the hard flat groundstrokes from Hsieh will help Tammy get into a groove rather than the awkward lefty Tameala....GO TAMMY!

Down to the Wire for Two Veterans
by Scott Spits
Friday, 13 January, 2006

Two veterans of the women's circuit will be anxiously seeking positions in the main draw of Australian Open 2006 when the final phase of the qualifying tournament takes place at Melbourne Park on Saturday.
Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn and Zimbabwean doubles specialist Cara Black have both progressed past the second-round of qualifying and only require another victory to secure a berth in the main field of 128 players.
One of the more prominent players from the Asia/Pacific region, Thailand's Tanasugarn, had some difficulty overcoming Elise Tamaela of the Netherlands on Friday, eventually winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 after one hour and 51 minutes.

The 28-year-old has an impressive record on the professional circuit, having reached the fourth round at eight Grand Slam events, including six times at Wimbledon. Tanasugarn is currently ranked 128 after a career-best ranking of 19 in 2002.

Tanasugarn, the No.11 seed, now meets the No.20 seed, Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipai, in the third and final round of qualifying.

Black's personal best performance at a Grand Slam event was a berth in the round of 16 at Roland Garros in 2001. The 26-year-old enjoyed a straightforward 6-3 6-4 victory over Romanian Magda Mihalache on Friday.
She had another successful year on the doubles circuit in 2005, becoming the No.1 women's doubles player in October. But Black only reached the main singles draw in one of the four majors last year when she was advanced to the third-round at Wimbledon.

Another veteran, 27-year-old American Lilia Osterloh, is out of contention to add to her four singles appearances at Melbourne Park, defeated in the second-round of qualifying by Ting Li of China, 1-6 6-2 6-3.

Osterloh's last singles appearance at the Australian Open was in 2002 when she was at the peak of her career. The American was eliminated in the first-round at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2005, finishing with a season-ending world ranking of 144.

While experienced players Tanasugarn and Black have both safely advanced after two rounds, the No.2, No.3 and No.4 qualifying seeds are all still in the running for a spot in the main draw even though the No.1 seed, 20-year-old Estonian Kaia Kanepi, was eliminated at the first hurdle on Thursday.

American No.2 seed Ashley Harkleroad enjoyed a second consecutive straight sets victory in qualifying. The 20-year-old accounted for Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier 6-1 6-0 in just 56 minutes.

Harkleroad, considered a top junior prospect in recent years, will be striving to reach the main women's singles draw at Melbourne Park for just the second time. Her best result at a Grand Slam event was a third-round berth at Roland Garros in 2003.

Harkleroad faces countrywoman Vania King in the third-round on Saturday for one of 12 positions available to qualifiers in the women's singles draw.

The No.3 seed, Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus, also progressed to the final stage of qualifying without losing a set, defeating Russian Olga Poutchkova 7-5 6-1 at Melbourne Park on Friday.

Yakimova, 19, will be aiming to add to her first-round appearances at Roland Garros and Melbourne Park in 2005 when she confronts Czech No.16 seed Katerina Bohmova in the final phase of qualifying.

Israeli veteran Tzipora Obziler, the No.4 seed, is seeking a fourth appearance in the main draw at Melbourne Park. The 32-year-old has advanced as far as the second-round Down Under in 2004 and 2005 after making her Grand Slam debut at the age of 27 at Melbourne Park in 2004. Obziler takes on Croatian Ivana Abramovic

I was watching the on-line scoring early this afternoon during a break from teaching English classes at school.

Tammy was up 4-2 with several break points, but Tamaela fought to bring the first set back on serve and force a tiebreaker.

Reading the point analysis from the Aussie Open website, Tammy made a lot of forced errors, so that means that Tamaela was playing well.

I also noticed Tammy served a lot of double faults, and made her fair share of unforced errors as well. She's going to have to be a lot sharper against a hot opponent in the 3rd round of qualifying.

It's been so long since she's had to qualify for a GS that I am nervous, but I know these qualifying matches are good for her to get some rust off her game, since she didn't play any warm-up tourneys Down Under or in New Zealand.

Do your best, Lil' Sis!!!!!!! :hearts:  :hearts:

Tammy was nailing many balls against Spears. Its not that Tammy was too powerfull, but Spears simply couldn't find a way past her. Tammy was very zippy, hitting very flat shots and Spears couldn't keep scooping up Tammy's 'bounceless' groundies.
Tammy has improved her movement and she served quite well... very solid, reminded me of the tammy of 3 years ago, not powerfull, but nailing winners by going for lines constantly and not letting her opponent run her around. Good angles and great movement... very few errors.
I will watch Tammys match tomorrow and will report all back to u guys.

Tamarine to play in the minors
[TENNIS] Off-form Tamarine Tanasugarn has opted to enter minor events to boost her rankings and her confidence after a series of first round flops since the beginning of the year.

Tamarine, who dropped to 153 this week after climbing to her personal best of 19 four years ago, has no other choice but to adjust her schedule from WTA to challenger levels. Chastened, she will kick off her campaign next week in a US$50,000 tournament in Orange, California.

She lost five consecutive first rounds since January and crashed out in the opening qualifying competition to Uzbekistan's Varvara Lepchenko 1-6 0-6 in the Pacific Life Open on Tuesday. With her current ranking, she cannot enter the US$3.4 million Nasdaq-Open, considered as the fifth Grand Slam, which will begin on March 20 in Florida.

"I can't play in Florida because I'm in the next-in list. My ranking is not high enough even for qualifying,'' said Tamarine who had reached the fourth round of the event in 2001.

The Thai No 1 admitted she has been below par that has resulted in some poor results lately. She has even decided not to play the doubles in the Pacific Life Open. "There is no injury. I just don't hit well so I don't want to play the doubles. I don't want to hurt my partner's feelings,'' explained Tamarine, who was supposed to team up with Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei.

Tamarine plans to enter nine challengers until May and is likely to skip the Fed Cup World Group II first round tie against the Czech Republic next month in Bangkok.

"If I don't make it to the top 100 before Fed Cup, I'm afraid I won't be able to play. I want to focus on improving my ranking,'' she said.

Although she has been far from the level of tennis that has propelled her to the world's top 20, Tamarine is not counting herself out and believes that she is still capable of getting into the top 100 once again.

"It is a bit funny when I cannot play the way I would want to. I think I just have to be patient and keep fighting. I will spring back. I am just waiting for an opportunity."

As everyone knows, the super Tammy in 2003 will never happen again in 2006 or 2007 or ... but I'm always like the way Tammy do for Thai tennis and the way Tammy is. The onething that I can do for her is to support her. I hope we will see Tammy2 Tammy3 very very soon!

I'm sadden by two things... first by Tammy's form and this withdrawal...

Next, at the fact that despite being so long on tour, Tammy does not have her own thread/subforum whereas, Zheng Jie and Li Na gets their sub forum..

I like Zheng and Li Na, don't get me wrong, but I'm just upset that Tammy does not have her own despite being such a long veteran...

Zheng and Li Na already got sub forum, but since this forum started, Tammy still doesn't have her own sub forum till today.

I hope you guys can help, hopefully, with enough people, there would be a sub forum.

Thanks guys!

I'm very very sad about that news so Tammy withdraw from French Open which she is in the qualifying list. I think it is the first time in 10 years that Tammy not play in Grandslams. More on the news, Tammy will play 15th Asian Games in Doha but not sure about FEDCUP World Group 2 playoffs.

She said in an article about her health scare that she wants to play for a few more years...so I think the sepcualtion that she would retire at the end of the year was wrong. GO TAMMY, feel better and then you'll play better!!!

Dear Carolina,

I would like to apply for a blog for Tamarine Tanasugarn and I'm hoping to get it. I'll do my best to give you an idea of how I write. Sorry if my english is bad.

Blog example:
"The recent days have been very rough on Tammy fans, after news of her withdrawal in Gifu 50K, comes possible rumours that she will retire by the end of this year, as she also withdrew from the French Open Qualifying for the first time in 9-10 years!

However, the latest news is that she is just taking time off and not retiring at all, brings the fans only a bit of joy as the new article cites another problem that she is facing.

According to the nationmultimedia.com, Tammy almost died when she suffered food poisoning a few weeks back in Mexico. This incident has affected her ever since. It is no longer life threatening, however, she has a recurring headache on the left side of her brain. Imagine trying to play tennis when you head keeps being in constant pain!

Just when she was starting on a road to recovery!

Nevertheless, the fans on the WTAworld forum has been encouraging, with quotes like:

'Poor Tammy, I really hope she can pull something special out of the bag and do well in Wimbledon - tennis just won't be the same for me without Tammy' - Benny

'she is my inspiration in tennis so I wants Tammy to play as long as she can. In fact, 10 years are quite long.' - Vut

We're all hoping the best for Tammy and that we can rally for a sub forum for her before it is really too late and a sub forum for a few years (preferably 4 years :p) is a lot better than nothing. Hope she bounce back strong during grass season!"

I hope you liked it and will be willing to grant me a blog for Tammy.

Thank you so very much for your kind attention and I hope to hear from you soon!

Yours sincerely,

Karsien ("NEW" on wtaworld.)

I hope this is okay for you guys...:tape:

Former WTA Top 20 Player Tamarine Tanasugarn Almost Died

Tamarine's brush with death

[TENNIS] Tamarine Tanasugarn almost died after falling victim to food poisoning during a tournament in Mexico last month.

The Kingdom's No 1 player said she is taking a three-week break from tennis due to a bizarre headache she developed after her "kiss of death" in Coatzacoalcos where she had to forfeit her second round match against Ukrainian Estefania Craciun.

"I don't know what it is but I am getting pain on the left side of my brain since then. It hurts when I get up in the morning,'' said the world No 149.

"I was given an injection by a tournament's therapist but I didn't get better. I was admitted to a hospital and the doctor there said I would have gone if I was a fraction late. I felt numb all over my body and had cramps around my stomach,'' Tamarine told The Nation.

The sickness hampered her progress and she stumbled in the opening rounds of three of the five tournaments she had entered in the USA and Mexico. Her best result came in a US$25,000 Challenger in Roza Rica where she made the quarter-finals.

"I was unlucky. When I started playing well again, I got sick and had to stay in the hospital. My body was very weak,'' disclosed Tammy, who is very concerned about her condition.

"I'm scared now. I'm trying to see a specialist for a thorough examination of my condition. It might take some time,'' said the former top 20 player and winner of one WTA title.

Tamarine said the illness is not career threatening and she has no plans to hang up her racquet in near future. "I'm still able to practise and compete. But I'm taking time off to have a check-up and heal the symptom. There is no plan to retire and I still love to play for a couple of years more,'' she said.

Tamarine said she will not make the trip to Roland Garros and also abstain from all clay court events this year. It will be her first no show at the French Open in nine years. She will resume her tour at the end of this month by competing in two hard court Challengers in China before heading to her most favourite surface, the grass in Surbiton and Wimbledon where she will have to qualify.

I haven't received any reply yet... I guess my blogging skills are not so good... sorry..

Would anyone else like to give it a try to get the chance to blog about her?

It would be the first start in getting her the sub forum...

OMG! I cannot believe Tammy almost died, that news is so shocking! Tammy should take all the time she needs to fully recover, her health must come first.
I'm really glad she has no plans to retire, I mean, no wonder she wasn't playing well with this injury scare. I really feel for Tammy, because she says she is so concerned. I'm sure everything will be okay, and it was just an awful mistery illness.

Any suggestion to what I should write, please do tell me, if you find my blog on her rather boring...:p

If we get a subforum, we must have a picture thread, aresults thread, a cheering thread, a chat thread... etc... Oooo I'm thinking way ahead... sorry, but I'm so happy now... hehe...
