In 2005 Pattaya Open was a Tier III with $170,000 but when the WTA issued the prizemoney to be increased to $175,000. Pattaya Open refused to increase their prizemoney this year and thus it is a tier IV.
A rich tier IV :haha:

Well that means that the tournament cannot afford to buy the tier III francise which costs US$500,000 thus they can only be a tier IV dispite the higher prizemoney. Also there maybe no opening for a tier III on the calendar at the moment anyway. Does that answer your question everyone!

in 2006, the prize for tier 3 is at least $175,000 not $170,000 likes 2005.
