If Martina wants to win this title she will have to beat Cristina Thursday then her qf on Friday, sf on Saturday and finals on Sunday!!!!!! All the other girls like Kim, Arantxa and Justine are faced with this problem also. ONLY VENUS got to play her 2nd round match on Wed. Sounds like fishy favoritism considering she supposedly received $200,000 just to show up. :(  :fiery:

Btw, the same thing happened in Amelia Island where Venus got to play her matches early and then came the rain and it got even worse for the other girls like Justine, Sandrine and Jelena. Jelena Dokic made some side comments about Venus getting done earlier and she did not sound too happy about it.

Btw, there were probably many tourneys in the past where marquee players like Hingis, Williams, Capriati have gotten some cushy treatment which gives them lots of advantages besides already getting those first-round byes and now the 32-draws at Grand Slams.

Yes but didn't Martina play on the Thursday last year when she was No1 seed and everyone else had Friday matches. Now she's dropped rankings she has the same tough schedule as everyone else.

Rich I'm with you.
Martina doesn't have any longer the advantage of beeing #1 where she sometimes could tell the oranisers when she would like to play. Now Venus can sort of make the sheduling...

Actually Martina did not play this tournament last year.

I am against Martina or any other #1 getting to play a day earlier when EVERYONE else has to wait. Also it was Wednesday vs Thursday not Thursday vs Friday.:)

I don't think it matters too much, Martina had a very comfortable win today, it won't have taken too much out of her. But I do agree, it's a bit strange only having one 2nd round match before the rest.

How many times must Martina get Mauresmo, the Williams sisters, and those who have defeated her, in a draw, while the other half of the draw is a highway to the finals for the top players there. It seems that the powers-that-be are determined to erase Hingis from the minds of sportsfans. Draws (which are supposed to be random) have seemed designed to eliminate Martina by the QF if possible. Block her! Demote her! Banish her! No big prize money for her! God forbid that she should win a championship!

Martina-- you must defeat not only your tennis opponents but your detractors.
