:worship: Sybille.

Such an inspirational story.

Aug 31st, 2008, 09:31 PM
So happy for her, really can't believe it! :sobbing:

manatee you're right, what an inspiration Sybille is. To think, she's 28 and only played her first slam 3 years ago. This is someone who spent the first 10 years of her career in challengers, and had a baby during that time too! Reaching the top 20 was big last year, but this has to be the highlight of her career. This really is the ultimate nevergivingup story.

She defeated Bartoli 7-6 [3] 0-6 6-4 - 1st GS QF for her (and Austria since 9 years) :worship:

Wise to tank the 2nd set

Sybille got a viral infection ... just like last year :o

Therefore she maybe won´t fly to Australia on December 30th - she did that last year and had health problems for about 6 months then. She maybe will stay here in Austria till the infection disappeared!

Get well soon Bam Bam

Dec 29th, 2008, 06:17 PM
There was a TV interview with Sybille at her home today :hearts:

She said she won't play in Brisbane beacause of her viral infection.
She wont do the same error, like last year...

Sybille will be back in Sydney then! :)

Mar 18th, 2009, 06:53 PM
Hi, guys:wavey:
I am not a fan of Sybille, but I watched her quarterfinal match at the US Open this past year against Jankovic. She was just overpowered by JJ;)
Based on what I saw, she doesn't have the game to be ranked much higher. I could've seen her on a bad day though:shrug:

Anyways, she is a solid top 25 or so player:worship:

Mar 18th, 2009, 07:25 PM
Thanks hellas719...!

Bammer is in Quarterfinals...a surprise!! Like Pavlyuchenkova...but Sybille was more contundent, she won without problems in each match and thats what surprise me.
Before Indian Wells she never win 2 consecutives matches in the 2OO9 season but i think she improve some aspects of her play..

I have to say Hellas, that I watched that match as well and Sybille played really SHITTY on that day. She made tons of UE and wasn´t that fast like she used to be.

She can play much better, believe me. I can remember when she overpowered Zvonareva last year (don´t know where it was, a tournament before the Olympics I think) but still lost a little bit unlucky

Sybille talks about motherhood

Sybille Bammer: 'I was so much stronger mentally when I came back – I knew it was my last chance'
Sybille Bammer makes a decent living out of tennis – she has already earned $255,910 (about £150,000) this year – but being the only mother in the world's top 100 does entail extra costs. Her eight-year-old daughter, Tina has had her own mobile phone since Easter. "We speak every day that I'm away," Bammer said. "She calls me a lot."
Until Tina started going to school she was a regular on the tennis circuit. "We travelled as a family to almost every tournament," 29-year-old Bammer said. "It wasn't too difficult. We were well-organised. Everyone helped, particularly my coach and my boyfriend. Tina was a very good sleeper. She was very good at night. Travelling was the worst part. She hated having a seat belt on, either on a plane or in a car.
"When I first became pregnant I wasn't sure if I would continue playing, but my boyfriend said I was still very young and he wanted me to continue. He said he was happy to quit his job for a while and look after the baby. He only started working again after Tina started school."
Bammer had made little impact before becoming a mother but won her first tournament back – an International Tennis Federation event in Grenoble – just six months after giving birth. Subsequently she made steady progress, breaking into the world's top 100 four years ago and reaching a career-high No 19 in the world rankings at the end of 2007. She won her second title on the main tour in Prague last month.
"I'm proud because before I had my daughter my best ranking was 200," she said. "I think I was so much stronger mentally when I came back. I really knew this would be my last chance. I knew that if I wasn't successful this time I would have to give up tennis. I think it would be easier to come back if you've already been a successful player, rather than try to come back and reach the top for the first time."
Bammer thinks she will find touring tougher than her daughter in the years ahead. "At home she has a lot of friends," she said. "Her father is there and she also has both sets of grandparents around. I think she understands better now why I'm away a lot, though it's not always easy for her.
"Most kids grow up with their mother with them all the time, while their father goes out to work. Tina has friends whose parents both go out to work, but she knows that they leave in the morning and come back home every day, whereas I have to be away at tournaments."
Bammer thinks Clijsters will enjoy "an unbelievably good comeback" and does not rule out the Belgian becoming world No 1 again. "She's making very good preparations for her return and I think she will be very strong," she said.

On Monday Venus invited Sybille to train with her. Sybille lost in training set 3-6.
Venus played Safarova in R1 so I guess she wanted a leftie to train with.

Denn seit ihren Zweitrunden-Out am 1.

Sybille plays Fed Cup in 2011!:yeah:

Team is Sybille Bammer, Yvonne Meusburger, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and Sandra Klemenschits.

Februar in Eilat (Israel).

Bammers letzter Aufschlag in Paris?

OTTENSHEIM.

„Vom Spielerischen her gesehen kann Sybille mithalten.

Seems like 2011 is the last season for Sybille. :sobbing:

I was on her match.
Somthing really wasn't right. Maybe luck of confidence or somthing else but in the first set were just mistakes from Sybille. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes.. 1-6
Then she began more better serve, went to attack, and i had a hope.. She serve well, even in the beginning martel did a break, then Sybille come with rebrake and had 4-5*, but fight, 5-5 and then Sybille lost her serve again... Sad 1-6 5-7. She could win her macth.

Hope to see her at least in Wimbildon.

Karriere-Ende verschoben: Bammer spielt in Bad Gastein

Sevastova-Absage bringt Bammer direkten Startplatz

Bad Gastein is the last tournament for Sybille!:hearts:

The last few weeks Sybille always said she wanted to play Bad Gastein. BUT only if she gets directly into MD with her ranking. She did not want to take a WC away from young Austrian talents. Sevastova withdrew, so Sybille got lucky and got into MD. Now she can play her last tournament in her home country.

Bammer Ends Unique & Phenomenal Career

July 14, 2011
BAD GASTEIN, Austria - Having originally retired after Wimbledon, she couldn't help but play just one more tournament when she found out she'd get into the main draw on home soil in Bad Gastein; she even won her first round match at the clay court stop. But her road would come to an end in the second round and on Thursday, two weeks shy of her daughter Tina's 10th birthday, Sybille Bammer brought her unique and phenomenal career to an end.

"Originally Wimbledon was my last tournament. I didn't think I'd play anymore," said Bammer, who turned 31 earlier this year. "But I got into Bad Gastein at the last minute and thought, 'Okay, I like tennis, so I'll play one more!'"

The early years of Bammer's career from 1995 to 2000 were a grind. Her lefty game was promising, but she played almost exclusively in WTA qualifying and on the ITF Circuit - and in her only WTA main draw she lost first round.

Then came Tina. Her self-proclaimed most memorable experience, the birth of her daughter on July 28, 2001 seemed to push her to new heights. She won her first three events back on the ITF Circuit in 2002, and she began creeping into more WTA draws, getting her first Top 100 seasons in 2005 and 2006.

"Tina was very good for my tennis," Bammer said. "After my matches, when I'd see her, I could always stop thinking of tennis and enjoy our time together."

Bammer made headlines the week before the 2007 Australian Open when she beat Serena Williams at the lead-up event in Hobart (Williams would go on to win her eighth Grand Slam title two weeks later). She actually beat Williams in their only other career meeting, on American soil in Cincinnati a few years later.

The 2007 season brought Bammer her first WTA title in Pattaya City (at the time, the first mother to win a WTA title since 1989) and her Top 20 debut (she would peak at No.19); the 2008 season saw her reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the US Open (falling to Jelena Jankovic) and 2009 brought her a second WTA title at Prague (beating Francesca Schiavone in the final).

"My titles and the US Open quarterfinal were both very exciting, and also reaching the semifinals of Indian Wells in 2007 - I lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets, and it was a great tournament for me," Bammer said. "My two wins over Serena were very special too. I don't really know how I did it!

"I also have very good memories of playing on the Austrian Fed Cup team. It was a joy to play for my country and it was always a very good atmosphere."

But after finishing 2007 and 2008 inside the Top 30, Bammer's star began to fall slightly - she finished 2009 at No.55 and 2010 at No.70, and with a 4-8 record on the year going into Wimbledon, she decided it was her time to bow out.

"The first time I thought about retiring was after I injured my shoulder in 2009. I had some big problems - I kept playing and it got better, but I couldn't practice as much as I could before. And then this year after Miami I got sick and couldn't practice for four weeks, and when I started again I wasn't playing so well. So it was around that time I really started thinking about retiring from tennis."

What are her plans now? "I want to relax for a few weeks. I'm going to take some holidays now, just at home - I love Austria and I'm looking forward to enjoying some time in my hometown. In September I'll play team matches for Austria, and maybe down the road I'll work in tennis, as a coach maybe."

All the best for the future, Sybille!:yeah:
