I believe she can beat Vera :)

And don't be afraid of the cookie monster in the second round , she's not in great form :p

Nothing else would be expected out of a Tier I. 3rd Round is very possible, maybe even further since she's given Amélie a great run for her life on Miami and now the surface is less favorable for her. :)

One match at a time. Maria can beat Vera, she must be ready though but :( jetlag and in general tiredness could be a factor. Good luck Maria.

Maria has a run at the 3rd round probably because neither Vera or Svetlana are playing there best. Good luck Maria!

No Maria/Maria and more importantly Masha's not playing doubles. A big relief. She needs to be in tip top condition, she's already tired enough as it is.

That's a bad draw for Maria. :( And she must be tired after playing so much tennis recently and travelling alot as well.

It is a bad draw when you look at the names, thats right, but Vera isn't inform so far as well as Kuznetsova, so it should be possible for Maria to beat them both. In the third round she can play Mauresmo, am I right? That would be for sure a difficult one.

Well...I hope she does good.

I finally watched my first full match of Maria's. The tape of the Beijing Open is on tv here this week. Wow-she was great in the final. I enjoyed her net approaches, and the all court game. I'm very, very impressed. :)

Three small upsets on Tuesday. None have an impact on Maria. In the big Maria quarter, Stosur beats Molik at 3 & 2, but Groenefeld hangs on 36 75 61 and will be big Maria's second rounder. Karatantcheva beat Jankovic in the Dementieva quarter, but will play Elena next. Pennetta won over Dechy in the Pierce quarter but will play Mary in the next round. Benesova's match just started.

The other half of Team Dulkolenko stayed in Asia, seeded third in Thailand she beat Jackson 64 75 in the first round.

Well, If Masha beats Vera tomorrow she will face Kuznetsva in the third round. Should be a strong match, but I think Maria can do that...but first of all she needs to beat Vera.

At least it is the first match, 11:00 local time, so Maria won't have to wait for other matches to conclude. Much like Tokyo last week, when the ATP is playing in the same tournament makes it harder for her to get on Center Court. Maria should have lots of family and friends at the match, maybe like Blake at the USO they will inspire her to play her best.

The best I can tell it is Hasselt the week of October 24-30 (a Tier III). There is one website reporting this. Have seen some postings talking about Zurich next week, but the official tournament site has an updated players listing as of October 6th and Maria is not on it. Maria has played sooooo many weeks in a row, her Dad/coach is probably tired as well. And after two straight set losses in a row to players in the vicinity of her new found ranking, may be a good time for all of us to step back and really enjoy what Maria has accomplished since the USO. Something about taking the time to smell the roses... before the Moscow snows come.

BTW, Maria's "official" site is of absolutely no help, they have Tokyo as the last tournment listed.

Masha is on the qualifying list for Zurich... well at least she was 2 weeks ago. But two weeks ago she didn`t know that she will play in Moscow so her plans regarding Zurich may have changed...

Qualifying draw will be made on Friday, so we will find out tomorrow.
Maria should be no 1 seed...

Thanks Keraj, didn't know she was on the qualifying list at Zurich. A Tier I in such a beautiful country, but if she plays that will make it 7 weeks in a row and some 28 tournaments for the year by the end of Hasselt. Gosh that seems like a lot. But her Dad's a smart fellow and I am sure they will do whatever is right for Maria.

BTW, how did you know this, I still can't seem to find any info.

Two weeks ago Maria said she will play in Zurich...

Her ranking was not high enough to be on the main draw list so she must be on the qualifying list... there`s no other explanation :)

That's probably because she didn't plan on playing Moscow by then.

Thought this was interesting... in the last day on Maria's Russian site two people got into a testy back and forth (the administrator had to edit one of the posts) on fan behavior against Maria at the KC. Ury attended Masha's match against Vera in Moscow and was very upset that Vera's fans were let's say not being professional. See one of his posts below. Maybe one reason why Maria did not play in Moscow last year and seemed hesitant to play there this year.

"But I sat to one row in front of that strange woman.... Which joyfully applauded with each error of Mashas (I hope, you you do not consider it applause to the errors of rival normal behavior) and unquotable expressions in the address of Maria pronounced. Again I will repeat - Masha, of course, herself lost. And I have faith in this fine person. But it was not pleased to me" to hear other fans reactions against her.
