Here's the article:

On the surface I can't understand the rule why Jennifer wasn't allowed to schedule a separate practice in addition to the team practice she participated in. I'd like to hear more from Billie Jean on the matter - is there something I'm missing here???

VERY strange and disappointing. :(

Jenn didn't even go through with the practice anyway.

BJK is just a bitch. She's arrogant and likes to pretend like she still has some influence in the world. Grow up, BJK.

I'm not a Capriati fan but I think King made an error in judgment.

Terrible leadership skills by BJK.

I will refrain from calling BJK names, until I hear both sides of the story.;)

I'm not a Jennifer fanatic, but give me a break.

BTW, there's WAY TOO MUCH DRAMA in the General Messages thread. So I chose to post here, with the more rational posters. ;)

Unbelievable

Perhaps there's more to the story? This is absolutely shocking.

Very sad all around.........I wish they could have worked it out. No doubt Jen won't let this bother her. She doesn't read press anyway.

Yeah, I think there's something behind the story...According to Jen, she "strongly protested". Maybe BJK didn't want to put up with it.

I've never been a Jen fan, but poor her!! I think BJK's rule is stupid, but I respect it. But I don't understand why Jen was kicked off because she still fulfilled all her commitments by practising with the team etc. If Jen wanted extra practise, and BJK disagreed, I don't think she should've kicked Jen off the team. That's way too harsh a punishment...

I can't believe she was kicked off for something so petty...there has to be some underlying reason for this.

Like Jen said:
"It is amazing to me that I am being penalized so severely for simply wanting to prepare as best I can for the Federation Cup and my other commitments," she said.

It's hardly going to be bad for the team if she gets in a bit of practice, is it?

I agree Sal U. Lite, Gen Messages is a bit dramatic at the moment.

What an odd decision!

It's a very unfortunate - almost unbelievable - situation, and I don't think either party comes out with too much credit.

I do feel sorry for Jen, but she was deliberately planning to go against the express wishes of her Team Captain, and no matter what she thought of the 'rule' in the first place, the fact that she obviously felt her needs were greater than that of her team mates (Monica, Meghann and Lisa) disappoints me. BJK disappoints me for i) having the rule in the first place, and ii) feeling that she had no other option but to kick Jen off the team. Ultimately though she's the boss and I would come down on her side over Jen's in this (though we still don't know anything like the whole story).

I never liked Billie Jean King...now I can see why..jeez she really thinks she's THE ONE. Capriati is the number two in the world  and then on this surface...I can't believe it..how stupid can u be?

What are you guys talking about?
If Jen doesn't want to be in the team and train with the team, why does she play the Fed Cup? This is a team tournament, not an individual preparation for the French Open.
I believe American Captain was very right to exclude her - and BTW, Monica and Meghan are good enough to kill their opponents...
I just hope that Jen will eventually understand how unprofessionnal her attitude has been, and that she will play the Fed Cup again.

Yeah--there's a reason! Billy Jean King is an ASS! She is a typical American--arrogant, egotistical and believes her own bullshit!

Hey "go Sandrine" you are not missing anything here! BJK is an ass and has been an egotistical ass for a long time!

This is an absolute outrage!! BJK´s competence as team captain should be called into question here. How can you sack your number one player for practicing too much!? There are fans who will have paid money expecting to see Capriati play. Jennifer has every right to be pissed; I hope she refuses to play Fed Cup again under BJK´s increasingly erratic and dictatorial leadership.

This is just so fucking stupid! I mean Jen didn't even break the rules! It'd be far worse if she had been refusing to go to training, but oh no, she wants to put in a little extra practice and she gets booted off the team for it. Absolutely pathetic. BJK is going to pay for this!:fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

Did this really happen?!? I still cannot believe it. What I don't get is how these two could not work this out. Jen did not agree with this absurd rule and Billie wanted to show Jen who is boss. Both are very stubborn and would not give in. It is Billie's job to deal with her players and keep the team intact. And just because this is a "rule" does not make it sacred. Rules like this are meant to be broken. For God's sake Jen was not hurting anybody by working out a little extra. She was helping the team. Damn. I still would like to know if this is Billie's rule or a Fed Cup rule.

BTW, Gus, you said if Jen did not "want to be in the team and train with the team." I don't remember reading that Jen skipped a team practice or said bad things about the team. She simply wanted some extra training in addition.

Jen had every right to disagree with it and I'm glad she did not give in.

You are absolutely right!!! This dike must be taken down! Who does she think she is? She ruined Fed Cup for a lot of people--and not just Americans! I hope the USTA gets the message loud and clear. Everyone should contact the USTA on their website and complain vigorously!

There's a bit more detail in Matthew Cronin's article at the TennisReporters site. http://********************

It seems the two had been fighting all week about Stefano's involvement.

What this does is make things more dramatic. A routine tie has been put into jeopardy. Austria now has a 1-0 lead. Assuming Monica beats Barbara Schwartz (highly probable, but not an absolute given), we'd still only be at 1-1. If Barbara comes up with a big effort tomorrow, with the way Meg's been struggling, we could be headed into the decisive doubles.
