My comments:
Anna Lena GROENEFELD:
That hard hitter from gives hope for the Germans after a long period without Top player!! She's now Top 25 as she reached for the 2nd time the final of a WTA Tour event...but in a much stronger tournement (Beijing Tier II 585K$). Even if she hadn't met seeded player, she had solid game during the week without dropping a set loosing to Maria Kirilenko (n°45) for the tittle.
Maria KIRILENKO:
Everybody was wondering if Maria K. could follow the step of her close friend Maria Sharapova...she' still got a long road to get the same glory as Maria S. but she won her first big tittle last week in Beijing 585 K$ Tier II. she didn't drop a set upsetting 1rst seed/n°1..Maria Sharapova who had to withdraw during the 2nd set for chest pain and Anna Lena Groenefeld 9th seed/n°30. She's now a Top 30 player!
Sybille BAMMER:
Well, being mother seems to motivate Sybille in her new carreer as Top 100 player! She was around the 150 ranking at the end of last year , she's now n°85...what a nice jump in the ranking. Once again this week , she's up with a quater final in Kolkata 140 K$ Tier III. She upsetted 4th seed/n°100 Maria Elena Camerin before loosing to surprising semi finalist Kaia Kanepi (n°174)
Tian Tian SUN:
Tian Tian was mostly considered as a double specialist (Top 20), but she's having pretty good results in single too sinca a couple of months. As WC in Beijing 585K$ Tier II, she reached the quater final creating one of the biggest surprise of the tournement by ousting 4th seed/n°9 Serena Williams in 2 sets (first Top 50 victory for Tian Tian) before loosing to eventual champion Maria Kirilenko (n°45). Tian Tian makes her Top 100 debut this week.
Marya KORYTTSEVA:
Marya won last week her biggest ITF event in Jounieh 75 K$ challenger. She ousted 2 seeded player en route for the tittle: 5th seed/n°158 Elise Tamaela and 1rst seed/n°98 Lourdes Lino Dominguez. She's up 44 places this week and break for the first time the Top 150.
Vanessa HENKE:
Vanessa reach the Semi final of a WTA event for the 1rst time in Portoroz Tier IV 140K$ upsetting 1rst seed/n°26 italian veteran Sylivia Farina Elia before falling to 4th seed/n°41 Klara Koukalova in 3 sets who won the tittle.
Yung Jan CHAN:
Another teen rising star from the asian countries!! At only 16 y.o Yung Chan breaks the Top 200 by reaching the 2nd roung of Beijing Tier II 585K$ qualies falling to 6th seed/n°117 Viktoriya Kutusova, another up coming talent.
