She needs to be there, if she wants to retain her number one spot, it's a tier I that can give her a lot of points.

Besides the fact that it's a tier I, she'd be playing her first tournament in her home country. It would mean a lot to her and to the people of Russia. At the same time, if she's injured, there's always next year.

Will Sharapova be in the Kremlin Cup?

God, that would be scary... you win the Kremlin Cup, get presented with the trophy, take off the lid to look inside and then Sharapova jumps out, all deformed from being squashed up in there :bolt:

I think that would put me off tennis for life.

Lets hope she is. The more players, the better the field!

Getting back to the question - it depends what this injury is?

I really think Maria wants to play the Kremlin Cup this year - so if she plays anything it will be this and the YEC. She's also scheduled to play Filderstadt and Philadelphia. I think those are probably going to bite the dust now, to give her muscle time to heal - but I think she'll play Moscow if she can.

Get well soon Masha!

I doubt she'll play Filderstadt with all the others playing
tough field

If she's healthy, she'll definately be there.
BUT, i don't want her going if she is not 100% fit.
i'd rather see her take a month, or even the rest of the year off to recover and come back next season refreshed and injury free - which would make a pleasant change!

I hope Maria gets her arm sorted out quickly.

I suppose she will miss Filderstadt - which is a pity since the fast surface would suit her game. Hopefully she'll make it to Moscow and be fot enough to make a good defence at the YEC.

Recover soon, Masha! :wavey:

This year Larry Scott designated Moscow as the one tournament Maria has to play.
If she doesn't play it, she should at least show up in Russia to give a press conference, like she did when she withdrew from Paris in February.

I guess it will depend on what Maria's doctors tell her about her injury. Maybe, as just happened to Justine, Maria will find out that her injury will not be worsened by continuing to play, and that she just has to play with the pain while the injury slowly heals. I know this is not usually the case with injuries but it does happen sometimes, and I hope it happens this time, because it would be great for Maria to finally play there.

And of all Tier 1 tournaments, it seems like poor Moscow gets the most player withdrawals of them all, year after year after year ... it would be nice for the fans there if the designated stars can show up this year.

It's obvious why Sharapova doesn't want to play in Russia, or for Russia's Fecup - because she risks being treated like a foreigner in Russia by the fans and the media, and that will make it harder for IMG to maintain the marketing charade that she's really a Russian player. Also, as Goldenlox noted, the Kremlin Cup has, as a rule, refused to offer appearance fees.

Why don't you just take your bilious crap elsewhere? This thread is about Maria's injury, and whether she will be able to play Moscow! It's not a place for your uncalled-for jibes against Maria. What do you know about ANY of this anyway?

Maria has a LOT of support in Russia, being 100% Russian - and she's making enough money not to need appearance fees!

Your obsessive hatred blinds you to the fact that you're spewing absolute nonsense. How does IMG gain from Maria being Russian? Maria would be TWICE as easy to sell to the big companies if she were a US citizen. Being Russian has done such wonders for Myskina, Kuznetsova and Zvonareva's marketability, hasn't it?
