O...M...G...

I was just watching the baseball game on ESPN and you know how they have those promos for Sportscenter with stories for later tonight? Well the anchor said, after some other thing, "And Serena Williams adopts Andy Roddick's former coach, Brad Gilbert, for coaching. Tune in later... blah blah"...

Anyone else heard this?

Tell me you're joking.

Brad Gilbert and Serena Williams? Since when does she receive coaching from anyone but her parents? If it was on ESPN, I believe it's credibility, but this is some HUGE news if it's true. :scared:

I think Brad could help her refocus, but there are also reports that she's returning to Macci's academy as well. Have to wait/see how this one pans out.

If this is true it is a very, very, very, very good thing. Serena needs direction right now and I know that if she gets healthy, gets in shape, and listens to BG she can do really well.

Me neither, which makes me curious, but if it was seen advertised as a story for sports center, perhaps it hasn't hit the web yet? I dunno.

lol, he didn't force Andy to stop wearing the visors, he would just make fun of Andy about it and pushed for the trucker hats (as did Andy's endorsements). I don't think Serena will let some guy tell her how to dress.

According to Agassi's father, Gilbert is actually not very good. He is good at picking up those who are already very talented, then "polish" them a little bit and take credit for it. Agassi Sr. said when Gilbert was Andre's coach, he would talk a lot during practice and Andre would end up hitting like only 20 balls per hour. His "method" is clearly not for everyone. I guess Roddick and his father felt the same way when they fired Gilbert.

In any case, before hiring Gilbert, maybe Serena or Richard should call Agassi and Roddick and ask their honest opinion as to why they split with him.

I hope that this is true, because then he could help Serena to be the best player in the world again. This and Macci's are good signs for Serena. She wants to get back on track. I wonder how Venus will react to this and how much help BG will actually give her. If BG and Serena hook up as coach and player, Serena ain't ever losing to Venus again. Brad will pick apart Venus' weaknesses like no other. Brad might also help Serena use all her shots more effectively. Brad does well to turn talented players around when their career isn't going as they want it to.

I mentioned Andre's father (Mike Agassi) because he gave an excellent interview just recently, about tennis and everything. In that interview he said Richard Williams is one of the greatest coaches since he produced two champions from scratch, all by himself. Mike Agassi also observed that when Serena and Venus were young, Nick Bolletieri and some other "famous" coaches would always want to "coach" the sisters and take credit for it but Richard resisted them all and Mike has a lot of respect for Richard because of that.

I don't know if Andre agrees with his father, but if Richard had called Mike Agassi and asked about Brad Gilbert Mike's answer would be "Save your money. You are better than Gilbert so why bother."

I doubt he would be a full time traveling coach. She'll probably just train at his house for a few weeks from time to time.

one of them will need to be showing a lot more than their usual quota of humility to make the relationship work. And i'm pretty sure Serena isn't going to be the humble one. Gilbert will have to meet Serena's conditions all the way, and i don't really see him doing that for more than a couple months before he gets mad and the deal is off.

What is this, April 1st? Anybody wonder why Gilbert has been unemployed as a coach for over a year? Of all the people to spread a false roumor about, this guy is the last guy she'd hire to, in effect, usurp the role of her father. No way, no chance. Not this girl...not this family. Some of you guys are fooled pretty easily.

Serena's coachig was fine in January, now in September she needs a new coach? Venus struggled for a lot longer than a few months, and she didn't need new coaching either, to get her GS winning form back.. Serena don't need new tricks, the old ones work just fine.

Even though he may be all talk, Brad Gilbert would be good for Serena in my opinion.

I think he could help her refocus, and encourage her to play percentage tennis. Look at the impact he had on Roddick. Andy used to just belt flat serves every chance he got, and tried to belt the ball from behind the baseline. Now he mixes up his serve, sometimes hits kicking first serves, and is trying to add the net to his game.

Serena has all the weapons, if she could cut the errors, stop going for winners off every ball, and get back in shape, she could dominate again.

Not too many people would follow up that thread.Serena never said she was a virgin, only that she doesn't believe in pre-marrital sex. Lots of people don't believe in doing certain things, but that still doesn't stop them from doing them. I'm not claiming to know if she's a virgin or not, but she doesn't seem like no wallflower.

Serena should not play percentage tennis. That is what I don't want. She struggles when she tries to do that. No, she needs to play aggresive tennis and first strike tennis. Brad would help Serena get refocused with taking a more professional approach to her career where she doesn't get hurt as much because he'll make her get in shape.

Actually, there doesn't have to be "penetration" for a woman to get pregnant, so I guess technically a woman can be a virgin and still get pregnant. It only takes a drop... :tape:

I see your point. I know lots of church people that don't "believe" in things but do them anyways. But I thought she actually said she is a virgin...or maybe I've just been reading this message board with it's innuendos and rumors and troll threads for far too long (such as this thread itself)

no she never said she was a virgin, she said she didn't believe in pre-marital sex and then went on and said she'd made mistakes in her life. Certain people then jumped on her and said they didn't think she was a virgin....the concept of making a mistake and deciding to not do it again is foreign to some people.

I truly don't think Brad Gilbert's a good coach. I think the only thing he'd be able to serve for Serena is refocusing her. Other than that, she'll be  during practices. You can just tell by the way that he commentates that he talks waaaay too much.

The interesting part about this, is that, after Serena's 1r match at the AO this year...she was interviewed by Chris Fowler and Brad Gilbert. They were joking about the idea of Brad Gilbert becoming Serena's coach, and Chris Fowler said something like "wait 'til he says what he can do for your game and how many more majors you can win". Serena, honestly didn't seem too put off about the idea and jokingly said they had a "great chemistry".

Damn y’all some gullible asses. Like I said, ain't no way in hell. Brad likes attention too much to ever be let into the Williams circle. The reason they are so guarded is to keep out those seeking to crack it and leak family business. The last thing they want is another book by some bigmouth coach coming out. Richard still has a huge amount of influence on the sisters, I doubt he'd trust Brad enough to give his blessing for him to coach Serena.
