Looks like it will be Venus' tournament to win or lose... as long as she's healthy & fit after a week in Beijing. I would like to see her play Na Li though... Vera Z.??? Where has she been....

Well they are still in the doubles for Beijing but so is Zi Yan. But Li Ting may get into Main Draw directly

Do you think Vera will play this Tournament. I hope she's back. I could totally see her playing Quebec City being as she's not playing Philadelphia

Venus does not need to be playing a Tier III. She's not a Clijsters who can play every week and stay healthy. She needs to pick her tournaments wisely. That means skipping this one so she'll be healthy enough to play a tournament where she can get some quality points. She won Wimbledon...she doesn't need the confidence boost that steamrolling inferior competition gives....it works for Myskina though.

she might withdraw from it if her knee is still bothering her but who knows?

FYI, Venus committed to this tournament back before
Roland Garros. She mentioned having it scheduled during
the taping of their reality show while they were in Rome.

People bitch about the Williams Sisters not playing enough and
then when they are healthy and want to play people bitch
as well.

Venus is will and always has
done her!

She won Wimbledon 2 tournaments after playing a weak tier 3 where she steamrollered the opposition... ;)

I do not think that top 10 players should be allowed to play tier III tournaments. Hopefully, they get no points for doing so, just appearance fees.

I don't agree. I think it is good for the sport in general, that tennis fans all over the world, get a chance to see the superstars at least once in a while, plus people who wouldn't otherwise go to see unrecognized names might show up to see a star player.

China is a very fertile tennis venue presently, therefore I think it is a good thing that they are using the stars of the sport to garner as much interest as possible. Their tournies may be 11 & 111 now but hopefully they will improve their status quickly as interest grows. With China's population that is a huge market to tap in. I think tennis is on the right path with the interest taking place in Asia, India and South America.
