I don't know why some of you think its "embarrassing"?? Its funny how something so tame could offend your delicate sensibilities.

Kids and some "grownups" at other sports do the same thing! Go to any football match and you'll see a bunch of drunken, fat-assed losers with football shirts. Now thats embarrassing.

i'm thinking this is a publicity thing done by her management. just as the one that was done a few years ago for mardy fish at the us open. i don't think there's a way that those girls would be sharapova fanatics, especially in that kind of matter.

They remind me the "fish heads" that showed up two years ago at USO. Those were people wearing big fish heads cheering for Mardy Fish (get it?) and they made a lot of news. Later, it was revealed that they were actually hired by the Fish family as a publicity stunt. I figure those girls in the picture did not do it for nothing, either.

At least they're having fun. Show everyone those "quiet" Asian stereotypes are gone.

Besides, at least they look better than those guys who dress up as Mary Pierce or Leyton Hewitt at the Australian Open every year. :p

No more so than how everyone else feels about stars. It's just that unlike
Americans- there's nothing wrong in showing a person's appreciation for "talent" in Asia. If you're got "talent" it's something to be noted for.

The other thing people don't understand is that the newspapers, unlike in the USA/Europe still has a great circulation in Asia. The papers churn out the daily updates, and info. You can't really avoid the wave of "hype" for anything be it food, fad, or celebs- but it always dies down before long anyway. So, it's not looked upon as something long lasting- just short burst of fun.

There are some guys that do that for Patty's matches at the AO too - they usually wear some bright red wigs, and wear the top of whatever Patty's wearing (this year was the yellow/white Adida thing). ;)
