Thoughts?

I'm sure she didn't just not show up knowing she was meant to be playing.
I hope there was just a communication error.

are you sure she actually no-showed as opposed to withdrawing, or are you just trying to be sensational? (nah, wait, i take that back, i know it's not your style).

Er....ok.I'm pretty sure Jelena, with all her experience, knows where she's supposed to be playing when.

I'm sure, smartass. She was scheduled to play today and didn't show up for her match, hence no-show.

It's a 25k not exactly a grand slam, these things can happen.
And no she didn't withdraw, she just didn't turn up.

What I want to know though, is that don't you need to register at a tournement when you arrive, at least a day before play? And if Jelena didn't show, why was she on the schedual or play and the draw?

Hmm. I'm pretty sure Jelena, with all her expereince, knows where she's supposed to be playing when.

I was just saying though, that because she has been injured and withdrawing from a few events, perhaps she asked to be withdrawn but it was, for some reason not done or something like that.

You only need to "register" for quali as far as I know.
Withdrawal deadline is one week before the tournaments starts, so if you are still on the list they will expect you to play.

Perhaps she got lost.

But i thought you need to register as a player when you arrive, for an identity badge thing, to get you into player's lounges, letting you book courts etc.
Maybe thats just for the tour events.

my apologies then to GoDo.

Once you enter a tournie, it's not like they call you to find out if you're still coming. If they don't hear from you they put you in the draw and put you on the schedule, and if you don't show up, they wait 20 minutes and then they give your spot away to an LL. There's no advance registration at the tournie site.

No-shows almost never happen at WTA tournies (can't think of a single one), but they do happen at the challengers.

I was at this tournament and I asked the person at the desk who handles the schedules if Jelena withdrew. He told me that Jelena was a no-show, so the other person advances. I was at court 7 watching the match before Jelena's was scheduled. After that match finished, they changed the names to Jelena and the other girl. The other girl came to court and was chatting the the umpire for awhile and I kept looking at the entrance to see if Jelena was coming. But after about 5 mins the other girl left the floor and I thought, maybe Jelena was in the toilet or something (delayed ) and she would come soon. But, then another girl came to the court and then they changed Jelena's name and put the new girl's name up. That's when I went to the organizers table and asked about what's up with Jelena, is she player? I was told that she did not show and thus the door opened to another person. Oh well, I finally had a chance to see Jelena and she didn't show. I was dissapointed because I waited for such a long time to see her. The matches were all running late, so it was 3:30 when the other match finished. If someone knows what's up with Jelena and if she is still in SCG, let us know.

I'm just posting news that are interesting to many obviously. And most of them don't ever visit the Challenger forum. :)

But I can understand your bitterness.

Ohhh I just got an email from the referee Tom Kinloch and I asked If he knew if Jelena had arrived in Glasgow, or if they haven't heard from her at all.

His reply:

No contact whatsoever!

Of Course, there is a Sign-In. Thats why I wonder that they planned that she will play. But ok, that is a point why people want to visit the tournament.

There is no sign-in for Itf events for main draw.

Only for quali and doubles event.

Singles Main Draw Sign-In :NO SIGN-IN (Itf Factsheet)

That happened many times before on Itf circuit, when the player on list for last 5 days they are putting her name to draw. That happened especially after Fed cup weeks and big tournements.

I experienced exactly the same at this year.Federica Querica had to play her match, other girl came, they waited for 5-10 minutes, than referee came to court, made a contact with umpire, and few minutes later a "Lucky Loser" started to her match, later I talked with referee said "Girl didnt come here",so that's happening for a long time.

Erika Angel  so many excuses on your part. just admit it, Jelena isn't the player she used to be. i doubt she return to her old level. at the beginning of the year, i predicted she would retire by the end of 2006. my prediction seems to be working out.

Ok, I'm sorry. Thank you Tobi for explanation - I have seen Sign-Ins on German Masters Series, so I thought it would be the same...

And thank you for all the bad reputations

Erika Angel  so many excuses on your part. just admit it.

So many excuses?
I just said I hoped she hadn't purposly snubbed the tournament and that I hoped it was just an honest mistake, her having thought she had withdrawn. How is that "many excuses"?
Then I just queeried about how registration at ITF tournaments was like, I didn't realise the players just rock up on the day, and don't have to register beforehand like they do at tour events.

And I don't know why you think your prediction would be correct? She has recently (as of last week) changed a few commitments, withdrawing from one of the two events from last week and adding another event for the following week. She has been injured lately, so I assumed she had meant to withdraw from this. That is all.

Jelena isn't the player she used to be

Well DUH

Damn, thats disappointing. I guess first ya gotta hope Jelena is actually okay before you are mad at her. Something may have happened, although i hope (and figure) not.
