Well, I saw the match.... Francesca played very well, kept getting the ball back, played some great angles etc. The court is the complete opposite to Filderstadt, it is extremely slow, whereas Filderstadt was fast, it seemed Amélie hadn't adjusted to the court and made over 30 unforced errors. Still, I have to think something might have been wrong; Amélie seemed to be a bit out of breath after some of the points, which seems strange because we know she's one of the fittest on tour. I'm wondering (and the Eurosport commentators said it too), is she coming down with that 'flu bug that several players had in Filderstadt? But that said, wasn't Franny the only player to beat Amélie in the first/second round of a tournament in 2004 - New Haven I think?? Franny plays a very similar game to Amélie, really mixes it up as Amélie likes to do, so for Amélie it must almost seem like trying to play herself - it doesn't allow her to get into her rhythm. Oh, and my final theory as to what went wrong was the top, I've noticed since the U S Open, when Amélie plays in the navy top she wins, and when she wears the white one she loses, ( I know this sounds a bit mad but it's true, although probably just coincidence..... ) Small consolation for me is that if Amélie had to lose to anyone in the Moscow draw, I'm happy Franny got the win/points...

Oh well, onto the next tournament.....

Fran's only win against her was in Warsaw last year, in the quarters - and that went three sets ;) :wavey:

Could be a number of factors, but the bottom line is she got her ass kicked. She has a few days to go home and think about this.

But on to the next one - and hope she does a lot better. She could've clinched her spot in the YEC with a good showing here, but hopefully will do it next week in Zurich.

Have to say Amelie didn't appear too distressed at the end of the match, cordial hand shake with Franny. I agree with the Eurosport commentators that she might be unwell as her movement seemed very lethargic and she was out of breath after many points. But well done to Francesca for playing a very smart match.

If it's a bug, let's hope it clears up soon - I want to see her in Zurich next week!

Her face looked really tired, like she had been up all night and http://yelims.free.fr/Pipi/Toilette09.gif
Her movement was slow and she came to her shots late, and of course that slow surface didn't make anything better. She just played a shitty match. I'm sure she'll do better in Zürich.

She might play having a flu but she'd never play when having a high fever. Of course it depends what is considered high fever but basically if you have over 38 C° the tournament officials are not likely to let you play.

She didn't have high fever at the time the match was played, at least not that high. And Kim could say one or two things about playing with fever...

If she would have had high fever when the match ended she would have been excused from the past match press conference.

I never said she had a high fever when the match ended in first place. I just said she played being sick (remeber the virus that forced many players to retire in Fildarstadt?).
