Who will the new Poster of the Month be, and who will the elite 5 be? We will find out in the course of the next week!

All contestants, please look at How the scores work (http://wtaworld.com/showthread.php?p=6196126#post6196126) ! This explains what the differents rounds are, and how the scores are calculated.
Expert Picks for the Picture Round
The scores of the very first round, "Picture Round" will be out by Thursday afternoon EST.
As a prelude to the round, wongqks ,former Poster of the Month, who has won most of the rounds he participated in, and probably knows what the judges are looking for, will give his commentary on whom to expect to score highly in the Picture Round.
He will "review" each picture, and given it a rating out of 4, with a brief comment for each picture. These do NOT count as scores, but could give us an idea about what to expect in the Picture Round, the day after tommorow. He will also give his top 5 for the Picture Round.
So look for the 'expert picks' tommorow, Wednesday afternoon EST!
In order to keep the suspense and excitement alive to myself, I have decided to check the scores myself just a few seconds before I post the averages. So I basically will find out the scores with you guys. :D

PREVIEW TO THE PICTURE ROUND
I'd like to thank former POM, wongqks for taking time to review this pictures. :D All these ratings are given out of a maximum possible of 4 (* * * * ). If you've recieved a low rating, please don't get disillusioned, as wongqks seems tough to please ;) And remember, these ratings have NO effect on the actual scores that will be posted tommorow. These is just to give you an idea who we could possibly, expect to do well. The last time this was tried in POM 4th Edition (which was won by none other than our commentator wongqks), the picks of the commentator, and myself went completely wrong :o Nevertheless, without further adieu, here are his comments :D
I'd like to state, that for the sake of fairness, but the judges, and wongqks, saw the entries NUMBERED and not with your names :)

If you guys have taken a calculator and calculated your averages, please note that the FARTHEST score has been dropped, and the remaining 3 scores have been averaged. For eg. in tennislover's case his scores were 1,3,4 and 9.
9 being the farthest score from the rest was dropped, and the other 3 averaged, and the average converted to 100 :)
In some cases, such as hingis-seles (whose scores were 6,8,10,12), all 4 scores were equidistant, and it was impossible to spot out, ONE farthest score. In this case, all 4 scores were averaged, and the average converted to 100 :)
I had hoped this system, would help players get higher scores, but it has infact only pushed most scores lower :( . But still, I hope atleast this system is clear to you all. I encourage each one of you to take a calculator, and check your scores yourself. Incase I've made a mistake. If a doubt, PM me. :)
You will note that if 4 all scores had been averaged for both Sam L and Bennyboy, Sam L would have recieved the higher average (and won the round), but still, I think this is fair, as most 2 judges have put Bennyboy in top spot, while only one judge has Sam L in top spot. :)

Reasons given by judges for their choices
jacs
"I judged the pictures by the amount it spoke for itself - the story it tells, the thought it provokes and the passion for the subject of the person who submitted it. Although fairly obvious with its slant for human interest, picture no. 6 (Bennyboy) conveys just a little bit more than the rest."
416_Man
N. 12 (timray)- I'm not a fan of Maria Sharapova, nor do I think I ever will be one. But this picture, her image like a superhero, her arm's stretched out into the distance, fists clenched. Ironically she is being held back (possibly by her father), from further stardom. Great image, with a great storyline behind it.
N. 10 (---Benny---) - A fallen hope. Again, I appreciate how her eyes are looking onto the distance, possibly something on her mind holding her back from achieving so much more.
N. 2 (cdpoulin1) - Intensity. Wow, the determination in her eyes, and her body language is extremely fierce. Unfortunately the image was slightly small, detracting from its overall appeal.
N. 9 (Sam L) Perspective. How little we are in the immense world around us. Somewhat sad, yet comedic in the size of the "heroic" astronaut. Very good picture!
N. 11 (!!!-Dz-!!!) A portrait. I couldn't take anything enlightening the picture. It was very black and white, but even more it was boring. Sorry.
N. 4 (Pengwin) - I don't understand the photo. Looks like J-Lo, but all I think is that it blows.
N. 7 (maryam619) - No Comment. All I could think of was Demi Moore. And then that made me think of GI Jane. Deadly connection.
Overall great photos :).
S-T-E-V-E
"I gave Picture No 9# (Sam L) most of my points because it shows our wonderful planet and reminds us what terrible things we are doing to destroy mother earth. It also makes us believe that we are just a small part of an unbelievable universe."
V-lix
"Overall, very disappointed with the pics. Only one (Bennyboy) stood out and mostly were below average"

HOW DID THE COMMENTATORS DO?
So, how did wongqks, and I do?
Well, wongqks spotted three out of the eventual top 5, and I spotted 4. ;)
The only one that the judges did not agree on me with, was my favorite, timray :o
So this means that the commentary does give a somewhat fair idea of what to expect..

Something I do not comprehend is the depth of the way the judges see this competition.
They value more their own personal biased opinion.... than the value it has universally. The man that I had on that picture was basically who inseminated the UN. A Mastermind who basically defended humanity, and hwose legacy may greater than of any world leader ever existed. It is not supposed to be fun.. but it should awaken a feeling of passion and gratituted.
I think though I deserved second place.... I think bennyboys picture was good idea. Very colorful and makes you ponder. Mine has a historical value, but his is a current event. So congrats!

Hi I I♥Lindsay! Yes, the scores of the picture and celebrity round (both out of 100) will be averaged, and the 5 highest average getters will move on to the final round. In the final round, the finalists will give a 'final message' to the judges. So apart from the picture round and celebrity round, there are no other major competitions. :)
Thanks :D

Hi Dz!! Yes I perfectly well understand what you're trying to say, but I think the judges also gave importance to the picture 'itself'. The visual quality of the picture, the emotive content directly displayed in the picture. Ofcorse if some message or strong feelings were attached to the picture, I believe they rewarded that too. Take KoolManSteven's simple logo, which had strong feelings attached to it , it got a high score, and based on what it stood for, I'd say even your pic got a decent score. But as I said, I think the judges were also looking for quality in the picture itself, apart from what it stood for. :)

I was looking for a visual narrative. I enjoyed the picture of Sharapova and Lucic for those reasons. It was easy for me to understand that, partly because I know very much about tennis. I do not know very much about Wilson.
Secondly, the picture should be providing me with "this passion and sense of gratitude". I did not see that one single bit. Nonetheless, had everyone placed portraits, from Ghandi, to Sir John A. MacDonald, to George Washington, it would no longer have been the greatest picture, but rather the greatest human accomplishments.

WHO'S IN THE TOP 5?
Wongqks shares his top 5 for the "Favorite Celebrity" round :
Ok I haven't seen the scores of this round too, as yet, so if it were upto me, these would be my picks :D :
1. cdpoulin1
It's almost an impossible task to choose a favorite between the answers of cdpoulin1, Sam L, hingis-seles and !!!—Dz--!!. Cdpoulin1's answer has something compulsive about it, that really strikes a chord with me. So based on my heart alone, this would be my pick.
2. Sam L
A nearly flawless answer. Sam L brings about such crystal-like clarity to his answers which is really his strength.
3. hingis-seles
A terrific answer, in which hingis-seles has stated many reasons
4. !!!--Dz--!!
Could and infact should place higher than 4th position. I'm telling you, this answer is going to be a hit with the judges.
5. KooLMaNSteven
I must say, the answers of KooLManSteven, Bennyboy, Pengwin, I♥Lindsay are all excellent. But KooLManSteven's answer has something endearing to it. Atleast in my opinion, all the answers in this round were very good.

Did you send me Dakota's pic? All pictures in this round have been chosen by me, and were not shown to the judges ofcorse. Nevertheless, congratulations on your score. :)
Well, choosing a less known celebrity didn't help me much....
For people who want to know, Chantal Petitclerc is a paralympic champion in wheelchair athletics. She won 5 gold medals at the Athens Olympics in 2004, beating 3 world records. She won the personnality of the year here in Quebec in 2004, tied with hero Romeo Dallaire, who helped to solve the Rwanda Genocide. When she was in her early teens, Chantal received a garage door on her body, which caused her to lose all sensibility in her legs. After many years of rehabilitation, she chose to accept her difference and started training very hard to become one of the best paralympic athlete in the world, which she achieved. On her personnal level, she owns 2 baccalaureates and one doctorate, and is known for being a very intelligent, level-headed and culturally-strong yound woman :D
Finally, she won, this year, the world-famous 2005 Laureus Award for best paralympic woman athlete :D

I'd like to restate again, that the judges saw ONLY your answers, and not the pictures added here (I added them for visual effect ;) ), and all the judging for both rounds was finished well before even wongqks' commentary for the Picture Round was posted. :D
Here is what the judges had to say about your entries for this round :
jacs
"Owing to the fact that the participants have varying levels of articulacy (because of language difference), I judged this round with sincerity as the priority. Entries with flowery and superflous words are placed behind ones which are straight to the point yet striking. On the flip side, entries that do not give anything at all outside of the obvious are placed even further behind. Answer no. 10 (Pengwin) to me, presented a nice, clean and solid answer. And people, contractions count as two words!"
416_Man
"N. 8 (Bennyboy) Secret to Success - Don't choose a pop star. Don't sound fake. Don't sound as if the person found the cure to cancer, and all they have is a daytime television show. Great original response. Thoughtful, yet didn't sound like you got it out of the thesaurus or your ass. Good stuff.
N. 10 (Pengwin) - Didn't care much for the choice or really even the reason. But I enjoyed how you used the word "stereotype" in a positive manner. Understanding that stereotypes are what humans use so freely, and made it look positive deserved a good grade.
N. 5 (Sam L) - A little bit of talking out of your ass, unless you really enjoy Streisand that much (and if you like her that much, only God can save you now). Loved the "hot tub liberalism". Great choice of words.
N. 3 (!!!-Dz-!!!)- This is why words sometimes tell a much better story than the picture itself. I found the picture bland, yet the description caught my eye. Plus, I graded those who chose to use a verb following the "because" rather than a series of adjectives, because it required greater thought. Good stuff.
N. 9 (hingis-seles) - Wordy-Ass kissing. What did she do to earn these titles? (ie. no verb...)
N. 1 (AlexSydney) - It was kinda boring. You needed an attention grabbing word. "
S-T-E-V-E
"I gave answer no #3 ( !!!-Dz-!!!) most of my points because peace and security are two important factors in todays life. I also liked the formal and corretc english which was used."
V-lix
"This round is definately much better than the previous round. some of the answers were very well thought. while there were some who were very tardish."
Please note that the entries in the Picture Round and "Celebrity" Round were numbered differently, for the sake of fairness. :) So the same person was given different numbers for both rounds :)
I can also see that jacs probably meant word-contractions :p

Wilson was so amazing. I mean. Thanks to him, Britain didnt' fall apart, and stopped so many catastrophes from happening.
He even passed bills to help to the recovery of the whole Europe.
Yet, I must congratulate Bennyboy. He is definetly the most original, and he is not afraid of just being himself. He is well awarded for so. Congratulations!

The FINAL ROUND and announcment of the winner will take place here :
In the final round, based on their general impression that the judges get of the contestants (The Picture Round, Celebrity Round and Final Message), the judges will rank the finalists from 1 to 5. Again, while averaging the ranks, the rank which is farthest from the other 3 will be dropped (For eg. if the ranks from different judges are 1,2,2 and 5, 5 will be dropped) and the remaining 3 ranks will be averaged. The one with the lowest average rank wins :)

Well I bumped these two threads because I didn't want to lose them. As for whether this would be ever held again, I am considering one in January. Depends on my schedule and the number of contestants :)
