'Wizard Of Oz' Ruby Slippers Stolen


GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- Judy Garland's ruby slippers aren't in Kansas anymore, or in the Minnesota museum where they're supposed to be.

One of the pairs of slippers she wore in "The Wizard of Oz" has been stolen from the Children's Discovery Museum in Grand Rapids, which houses the Judy Garland museum.

The slippers are owned by a Los Angeles man and insured for more than $1 million.

Four pairs of slippers worn by Garland in the movie are known to exist. One pair sold at auction in 2000 for $666,000.

I don't understand the point of stealing something like this. It is like stealing The Mona Lisa. If you take it, you cant ever sell it because everyone knows its stolen. Unless you're selling it to someone who hired you to steal it. Never thought of it that way.

Perhaps a friend of Dorothy's wanted them....

I make a joke today at school after hearing this news and it's very windy over here in Sydney. I told my friend that’s probably explains why it’s very windy here and I guess the thief must already killed by a house stamps on him! :lol:

It's possible they're just obsessed with the shoes and want to have them all to themselves, or some crazed Judy Garland nut with a shoe fetish. People steal Oscars all the time, though there is no market for them and melted down they're not worth much.
