Yung-Jan plays Serena Williams in the first round of the USO!!!!!!! That's an exciting match up. With Serena's recent form and Yung-Jan's great form of late this could be an interesting match, I think she's got a great shot! Plus she'll be on TV!

Go Yung-Jan!!!

Yeah, I did see her match with Kurhajcova. Both players are big hitters except that Chan is more aggressive in trying to move Kurhajcova around and made a lot less mistakes. It went pretty quickly in the first set. Chan started to make more errors in the second set while Kurhajcova cut down on her own mistakes. The match started to get tighter but Chan eventually held on and won the match. Chan's first serve was very weak but Kurhajcova did not capitalize on her weak serves. Chan's served a lot harder against Baltacha so she is definitely capable of cranking up her serves. I hope she will do well against Serena. It is going to be on Monday morning and will be televised.

i read d post match review from uso website about this match, the analysis mention the number of winners yung had was impressive, but her second serve was too weak(like most asian girls, serves not their best weapon  ). Overall i think Yung have a bright future!

does anyone know if she has an english name/nicknames?? and how do u pronounce her name "Yung-Jan"??

Her english name is Latisha, which is a bit unusual considering Latisha is a common name for african americans. Her name is pronounced sort of like "young-lan". She is currently playing 50K tournament in Beijing

I don't think I'm a big fan of Chan

watching the final 50K tokyo against Morita

She took an injury timeout after she was broken to go down 1-2 in the second set for CRAMPS

and then after the second set

she took a 6 minute bathroom break .... typical junior behavior

I don't like players abusing the rules

Yung-Jan is not the kind of players who play tricks in games.
Clearly she's hurt, and she has been hurt after the Asian Champs and that's why she quited to compete in Bali and Kolkata.
She also retired from yesterday's dbl semis.
Since it is allowed,I don't know where's the abuse from? It's a part of strategy to release the stress mentally and phisically.
Anyway I'm stiil a fan of both of them, and you have the right to lean on Ayumi.

oh yeah I didn't mean anything against Yung-Jan
I guess I'm kinda sick of players abusing bathroom breaks and injury timeout
I did not know about her pulling out of Bali and Kolkata
and I thought maybe Uberoi pulled out of doubles
And I think either way this rivalry is great for Asian tennis
and both players are gonna be ones to watch!

NO.119,The No.6 of Chinese,A good player.
Come on!
There is no need that you touch that sensitive issue...just so meaningless you guys... :o
She's borned in Taiwan. She grows in Taiwan. She didn't get trained by you Chinese people. She didn't benifit any from you Chinese systems. That's it.
Don't bring that political issues on this sports forum,hk_andy,and then you.

wow... she look a lot more built now.. Last time I saw her in person was about a year ago. One of the comment by Mary Jo on TV when she was playing Serena was that she needs to get physically stronger. On the other hand, I think Hsieh really needs to improve on building her body to get into the next level. She looks as skinny as ever, not a good thing....

Yung-Jan :yeah:
She has great chace to get the final. She'll face Nakamura who luckily got benefit from Paola's retirement.
I remember the first time I saw Yung-Jan on TV was her match versus Serena in USO 2005.She had a good backhand but not so powerful then.I'm suprised she's improved a lot within a year.

Her thigh was injured last week;her right elbow was injured yesterday, now her shoulder got some problems.
Anyway Yung-Jan and Chia-Jung won their doubles semis by Paola's retirement.Hope YJ can recover soon and get ready for tomorrow's final.;)

I was at Ariake today for the Chan/Chuang-Suarez/Ruano Pascual SF match. The game was cancelled and when I asked the gateboy. He announced that the match was cancelled due to Chan's withdrawal. I thought she was definitely injured but was surprised to see the result as a win on WTA due to Paola's withdrawal. I guess Paola withdrew earlier before Chan did.

Her youger sister Hao-Ching did very well in her first tourney in ITF junior circuit. :D

And Yung-Jan will start a 3-week-schedule from Japan to China(25K/50K/50K) to earn as many points as possible to get a better seed order for 2006 Asian Game (in Doha).Good luck!

Hao-Ching Chan from Taiwan upset seed again, beating 6th-seeded Leong from HK 61 16 63 just now. :worship:
Won both singles and doubles(with sister Yung-Jan) as a debutant in ITF junior circuit. :yeah:
Here are some pics of Hao-Ching Chan(13).She looks just like a tall version Yung-Jan.
BTW,ITF seems to mistaken Hao-Ching as a HK player...
