A thread about women's volleyball! Yay!
I can only see the big events where Brazil usually plays the best teams. In South America, there used to be good teams like Peru and Argentina, but I guess the only big force now is the Brazilian team and no doubt it's my favorite.

Out of Brazil, I really like China's and Japan's teams. Basically like to watch their games, so much technique with great offense and deffense, whereas other teams like Cuba are all about power. Italy's team is great also. USA used to be good 'til last year, and they were quite good to watch.

The only big team I don't like to watch is Russia. MEH. Can't forget that horrid semifinal match at the Olympics. People talk about Mauresmo, but that was the BIGGEST CHOKE JOB EVER! And I find Russia's moonballing repetitive game boring.

I miss Ana Vania Mello in the Italian team , what a pity she'll never come back :sobbing:

They didn't even played for 100%, otherwise Ukraine wouldn't score more than 10 points in every set... I hope tomorrow they'll win too :bounce:

The Ukrainian team will never be strong enough to qualify to the World Championships, only if they'd get an easy qualifying poll ;)

I'm surprised Poland didn't qualify in the 1st chance they got, how could they lose to Germany? :o If they don't beat Bulgaria today, they better retire  Ok, Bulgaria plays @ home, but I'm quite sure Toni Zetova :hearts: and the other more experienced players have already left the team, that's why I'd be shocked if they beat Poland to go to Japan
If Bulgaria still had the same team as they had in 2002, they'd be a very tough opponent.

Kathy Radzuweit :hearts:

I'm sorry, but she's not my type :o. And such a tall player could be stronger and hits the ball harder, all she does well is to block, but she has no other skills, moves slow in the net to block, weak serve, weak spikes...pppffff @ the German team, even Kathy is not benched anymore.
Suzy Lahme should come back to indoors :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

I like more Angelina Grün than Radzuweit :D

Me too! :inlove:
Angelina is my favourite German player now, one of the best attackers of the world :worship:. But Hanka Pachale, who now only plays in the Italian league, is still my all time favourite German player :hearts:, stupid Korean coach who doesn't get well with her :fiery:

poland is my fave eam by far and then come brazil and holland with manon flier being my fave player probably :D

Thanx for the info! :wavey:

That's great for the Bulgarian team, Toni is one of the best opposite hitters of the world :hearts:. Now Bulgaria can challenge Poland, but the Polish squad is stronger, imo, has played more international tournaments in the last 2-3 years and Glinka is as good as Toni, so it might be a tough match. But I still think Poland will qualify, but maybe the Bulgarian girls can get some extra motivation, since they have the crowd with them :)

Do you know if the other "more experienced" Bulgarian players, like Germanova (outsite hitter), Ouzonova (outside hitter), Marinova (setter) and Sokolova (middle) have also came back to the team? If so, Poland must watch out :p

I wish I could watch this match

the girl that hits the ball with her fist :p polish block has been doing pretty good lately (i dunno about yesterday, coz eurosport here is rather into snooker  ) so i hope it's gonna be fine today. i'm pretty anxious about linesmen to be honest, but hopefully they won't screw up this time...i think that polish girls are really determined to win the whole thing, coz otherwise i'd be a disaster for this team. just to mention kenia, who have already quallified :p

Oh, thanx once again for the info! :D

She actually is the best one out of the ones I listed, but I believe Bulgaria might be very fragile in receiving, like they always were, and now, without Germanova, one of their best receivers, they might have some trouble, especially with the powerful Polish serves ;)

:ras: ;)

Adita Bouagaa (sp?) is cool too

I think her name is Atika ;)
I see you're into tanned girls :p, so you might :hearts: the team of Cuba, rite?

...i think that polish girls are really determined to win the whole thing, coz otherwise i'd be a disaster for this team. just to mention kenia, who have already quallified :p

Indeed, it'd be a disaster, especially cuz Poland poll to qualify to the WC was not thaaaat difficult. I just saw the stats of the previous matches and could finally see who is playing for Bulgaria. Sokolova is benched , and I don't think Toni Zetova will be able to lead Bulgaria to the win, tho Koleva is also a very experienced player.

About Kenya qualifying, we cannot compare the African qualifying tournament with the European one. It's obvious that any European team would be able to beat any African team, but FIVB :retard: "gave" 3 vacancies to Africa :o, and only 7 to Europe. Even in the last WC Europe had more vacancies, and that's why Poland or Bulgaria, teams who had qualified to the WC in 2002, will be out of the next Championships . You'll see, all 3 African teams will lose their matches 3-0 (maybe they can manage to win 1 set :tape: ) in the tournament and will be disqualified in the 1st round :o.
FIVB is absolutely insane :retard: :help: :smash:

forever_rafter
Aug 21st, 2005, 02:58 PM
Yeah, in Dresden we were a single set behind...We just have to do our best to win 3-0 or 3-1 and make sure we won't let Bulgaria have any hopes for victory

yeah of course you can't compare, but i'd still hurt. i understand that the teams from africa must be given a chance to take part in tournaments like this one too, but on the other hand there are so many better teams that can't participate because of this...

OMG!!! Volleyball is the second coolest sport in the world (of course tennis is first)!

You know, they don't really show much volleyball here in the U.S. There's beach volleyball every weekend during the summer, but I like indoor volleyball much better. :hearts: Obviously, I root for the U.S.; Ogonna Nnumani (excuse the spelling) is my favorite player! I would watch her play in college at Stanford, and she is amazing! But if the U.S. can't win, then I usually root for Cuba or Brazil. Those two teams are so polished and fun to watch.

My favorite parts of volleyball are hitting and blocking! I love it when the girls spike the ball, but it's equally fun to see them stuff a spike! Volleyball rocks. :yeah:

She's amazing indeed. Gosh, I remember those two five-setters Brazil had against the USA, in the SF of the World Grand Prix in Italy, and then in the QF of Athens Olympics. She can really hit hard and all brazilian players had so much trouble when she was "on". Don't even know why she wasn't in the main team for the whole match.

She didn't play this year's Grand Prix. What happened to the top players? Didn't see Tom, Scotts, Sykora...

About the American team, Scott came back to play the WC qualifying tournament, and, of course, the US team qualified ;)
Logan and Stacy  wanted to move to beach volleyball and that's why they're not training with the American squad now, but I think they have already given up on this idea cuz Logan will play the next season in the Italian League. With the total mess in the voleyball federation in Bulgaria unless a miracle, no Bulgarian team could compete with the Polish team. Our girls made already a big effort to make a so close match but your team is a class above for the moment.

Too bad for Bulgarian volleyball, we have talented girls but not the federation to back them up..

My Maggie was the best scorer of Polish team with 17pts. In first two sets she wasn't playing well but from 3rd on she played great and her attacks were killer. All Polish players played great in last 3 sets, and our coach made some important changes which were the key to our victory, I guess.

My Maggie was the best scorer of Polish team with 17pts. In first two sets she wasn't playing well but from 3rd on she played great and her attacks were killer. All Polish players played great in last 3 sets, and our coach made some important changes which were the key to our victory, I guess.

i must say i've been impressed by kasia skowronska lately. she's grown so much as a player over the last two years, it's amazing. she can be a real leader of the team at the hard times. it's crucial for this team, coz they can't always count on maggie, who might have some bad moments too. two thumbs up for kasia :yeah:

True, Joasia Mirek was great too, I'm so happy she regains the form she had before the fatal knee injury in 2003

yeah, but honestly i never had that many doubts about asia mirek, as i had about kasia. coz after the EC in 2003 kasia seemed to get kinda distracted with all the attention she was getting from media and fans...
